Grew up with this camera, my parents had a Minox 35 to start with and went more auto/modern in the 90's. I accidentally shot the Mona-Lisa in 1994 using flash since my dad set the camera up and then handed it to me, but pushing through the crowds in the Louvre I managed to turn the camera off, resetting the flash. Anywho, came here for some insights after picking up my very own Big Mini BM-302 at a thrift store for 7,5 euro - clean lens, working battery, no scratches, manual, strap and pouch. Good stuff :)

love my mju-ii! Thrifted this 35/2.8 a few years ago, always in my pocket, much better feeling looking back at social or daily events than scrolling through 100 iPhone photos.

My digital daily driver is one of the many pocketable digicams in my collection. But if we're talking film, the camera I find myself reaching for most of the time is my Olympus XA2. Super-pocketable, manual zone focusing, very nice results. Works with two LR44 cells, so no problem getting special or hard-to-find batteries for it. Anyway, great video, and of course I want to see another one with some photo samples taken with your Konica Big Mini! Cheers, //Rick

i went through that process when i had my daughter. I had to carry so many things that having a "nice" camera with me was just too much...so i tried so many things..after many cameras, i went with the Minox 35gt: fit in the pocket and you can have a decent flou for portraits. Love your channel : )

Yes, More film photos of a stray squirrel please. Seriously! Amateur shooter here, but I totally get your desire to shoot film after so much digital work. Slows one down in a good way.

You are 100% correct for not going with a Contax T2. I have one, its brilliant and takes amazing photos. However whenever i'm out with it, i end up being super careful given how expensive they have gotten. On the other hand, my Nikon L35AF2 has been everywhere with me. The pictures are as good as the T2 for 1/10 of the price.

Yes please, would love to see the shots you take with it (P.S. really enjoying your film content. I've also started shooting film purely for fun, and because you can't see what the images look like immediately there's less pressure to make something that 'looks good')

Back in the day, my friends raved about the Olympus Stylus 35mm camera. I've owned a couple Canon G Series and loved them. These days, I just use my iPhone, edit the images slightly as JPEG's and organize them into folders. It is easy to find an image and I can include them with my work images and share them.

My every day carry is a Fujifilm Klasse point and shoot. It has a crazy sharp 38mm f/2.6 lens and is basically the same size as your Konica. It's awesome. It fits into pretty much any pocket I need it to and it just works. It's basically loaded with HP5 all the time. My alternate "light carry" is a film Leica CL with a Voigtlander 40mm Nokton f/1.2 lens in M mount. I also have a digital "light carry" which is a Canon EOS RP with an RF to M mount adapter and I use the same 40mm lens on both "light carry" cameras. I turn the focus peaking on with the RP and also have a 5x and 10x punch in with the viewfinder for critical focus. Both are awesome and the 40mm Nokton is a total dream of a lens. Of course, from there it goes into much bigger and heavier cameras for paid and personal "professional" work.

My all time favourite point and shoot is my Rollei 35 LED but only because it was the first camera I bought with my own money plus it paid the bills for two years before I bought my Olympus OM1. The easiest compact 35mm camera I have ever owned was an Olympus Myu ii. Super quick, great lens and very reliable. It was surprisingly robust given it’s totally plastic but it did the job.

Bought mine in black an hour ago at the Frankfurt fleamarket, dirty cheap, 10 Euro, nearly mint condition (honestly: mint). Film still inside,. New battery out of the fridge (CR123 is cheap and easy to obtain). Great form factor, qualifiing for the permanent design collection at the MoMa imho.

When I got back into photography after a 20 year absence, my intention was to do black and white street photography so I could get back to my roots. I bought a couple of Contax G1s and 28mm, 45mm and 90mm lenses; obviously heftier and less portable than your point-and-shoot. (The 45mm f/2 Carl Zeiss Planar is apparently one of the finest lenses ever made, with "finest" being subjective.) Fast forward and I now have too many cameras. One that's fun to use, though, is my Fujifilm X100V. It's not nearly as mobile as yours but boy is it fun to shoot with.

Do you have a digital counterpart? I love the idea of a really pocketable camera that you always carry with you but buying + developing film is not cheap. Right now I'm using a Sony WX-830, it's even smaller (the size of a credit card aprox) and super light and the photos are fine, not super good but usable for everyday use. I've added a 1gb SD card so it's limited to 100 photos to "emulate" shooting film. I do like the developing + hanging aspect of film so I'd like to try a cheap point and shoot one day

My only issue with the Big Mini is the autofocus is glacial. I prefer zone focus compacts of that era, because the AF was rarely up to speed, at least for street photography.

@Skipsul

@@TinHouseStudioUK That and a lot of pocketable zooms tend not to be great. This one is pretty sharp, and for whatever reason, isn't much loved among Leica enthusiasts, so remains affordable. What's hilarious is that it has one of those digital date backs, to burn a date code into your image. Well.... Leica never assumed anyone would be needing it after 2016 - it doesn't go any further. Thankfully you can turn it off.

Be careful of the power ribbon attached to the film door on those; it's best to only open them a crack when loading film. Otherwise, the back and forth on the ribbon will cause it to break. Then you have a paperweight! Still, it is a nice camera. 🙂

@@TinHouseStudioUK i was astonished because, while in the process of buying a B cam for video (and also photo), i found myself in hurry for a temporary backup camera needed for a big photo event, and i happened to retrieve on eBay a 5D MkII for the euro equivalent of 180/200£ (...well, before Liz Truss; now i don't know how the change against euro is 😬) that i then even resold for 50£ more 😅 and so seeing 125£ for your camera, in proportion, seemed a stellar price!

Where's the emoticon for shaking head? Sorry sir, but - unless you were actually seeking a small, simple, lightweight camera that... shoots FILM (which, is arguably a LOT more faffing around than simply uploading a digital snap on your phone), then it seems to me that your reasoning/logic behind buying the Konica just doesn't make much sense. IOW, just use your phone for heaven's sake! That said, personally for a truly high quality (w/ wifi and far better sensor than the Konica - not to mention gives you the option of shooting RAW should you actually want to blow up those pics of your kiddies for a decent print on your wall), I'd recommend you look into one of the Sony RX line of compact digitals. Likewise neatly fits into your pocket and ~"200 grams", but w/ a 1″ sensor and a Zeiss lens. Not to mention um, you know... the option of VIDEO for that moment when your kiddie blows out the candles, no? ;) Then again, I'm biased. I've been slipping my beloved Sony RX100 in and out of my pocket - whilst traveling to dozens of foreign countries for years now.

Because I spend all day working with digital files, everything that isn’t work is shot on film and I develop and print them myself. I do like my small Sony I have (not sure the name) but it doesn’t have a viewfinder :(
@TheTravelnLass
@TheTravelnLass Жыл бұрын
@@TinHouseStudioUK Ah, so your criteria was indeed, a f.i.l.m. camera. Then that makes sense. But the reasons you gave for not wanting to use the phone didn't add up. Clearly faffing around with developing/printing film pics is a good bit (albeit no doubt enjoyable) more work/time than simply uploading your phone photos. Plus... for those kiddies? I'd say having a little video contraption at the ready favors the phone over the Konica, no?
