Both Effy and Tony are perfect examples of kids where the cool image they've drawn up is just a cover-up for a lot of insecurities and detachment within the family. Especially with Effy, there was an incapability of handling love because everyone loved her for all the wrong reasons, and not the person she truly was, except for Tony. She was enigmatic, but very troubled, but everyone was so enthralled by her image that it became toxic for her and the ones that loved her. To me, this show is one of the few shows to have realistic teenage characters with a lot of layers in the storylines, the third generation excluded (when the show sort of became a caricature of itself).

She suffered from selective mutism as a child (she stopped talking when she was 6 and this is mentioned in a deleted scene) and in her early teens, probably due to her family situation. It's common for people who have had selective mutism to emulate the voices around them when they do speak. It's also a common symptom of a few mental health disorders including BPD which she very much shows symptoms of throughout the show. Her voice reflects those around her, it's another way to try and protect herself, likely without her even noticing.

not really. the panda birthday, she didnt drug the brownies. the freddie/cook thing, it was freddie idolizing her, she didn't show interest outside of sex. the jj party thing, it wasn't her job to watch him. the camping thing, she was attacked first (or at least felt attacked in a very real way from the drugs clashing with her bpd). every character in the show knew she was pretty and fun, everyone who hates her only hates her because she knows it too. people always wanna blame her for things that aren't only her fault, and sometimes aren't her fault at all.
@nepeta_cataria_00711 ай бұрын
Imho the main reason she's an involving character is that she has a pretty face. People get easily "hooked on" pretty faces and they tend to see them as more likable or more interesting. If her character was played by the same actress (meaning the acting would be the same), but with the face of someone less attractive (for example of someone like Pandora) she would receive much less positive reaction from the audience. In fact it would be hard to do it, as one of the key features of Effy is that she is pretty and she knows it well as it enables her to manipulate everyone around her, because people find it hard to resist her. I mean just look at what kind of actresses are usually shown in youtube shorts or those self-made music videos (Idk how it's called, but it's done by pretty much anonymous creators who take a song, for example Lana del Rey's song and play it to a video that consits of video footages coming from different movies). It's never actresses like Judy Dench, Meryl Streep, Maggie Smith etc., it's always pretty, rather young (in their 20s-30s) and very feminine women with either very sensual or inncocent and girly faces such as Brigitte Bardot, Marliyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Monica Belucci, young Brooke Shields, Winona Ryder etc. And as much it is not fair to favorise people for their looks, we can't help it, that's just how our brain works. I know that some people will say that beauty might be sometimes a curse, but pretty people are on average treated better, they can get away with worse things and we have more empathy for them- they even get shorter sentences (again, on average) in courts! We are able to forgive pretty Effy more than we would forgive someone who is less cute.

@@slushpuppie19 how can someone be "100% council estate" (not a dialect or accent btw, there are council estates all over the country, some in very well to do areas) when saying literally one word? I'm Northern but I say "wanker" like a Cockney because I think it's hilarious. I also say some swear words with a very posh accent because they sound more effective when properly enunciated. I'm not Cockney or posh, even if they weren't polar opposites to begin with, and yet.

@@mydogeatspuke Well she says more than one word. She also says it in a completely different accent to the rest of the video. Don't really know why people can't hear that. Must be a lot more obvious if you're southern I guess.

I have no idea who this is or what this show is. But KZfaq recommended it to me and I clicked it. I also have selective mutism. It is infuriating, wanting to speak but being unable to. I can’t help but empathise with this girl despite our personalities being clearly different.

Man i love skins so much. I would love a new generation, but truly its a product of its time, and a reboot would totally butcher the vibes like skins US did, and the 3 generation of skins UK. Truly i only liked rich and grace, truly couldn’t give 2 shit about the rest of the characters, especially frankie.

ADHD isn't a mental disorder, it's a form of neurodivergence. Please don't put ADHD in the same category as BPD. Borderlines need to be locked up.
@Punk-possumАй бұрын
@@jenjones90BRO what is it with you and folks with BPD
@00kat0014 күн бұрын
@@jenjones90 People with mental disorders are also neurodivergent. Neurodivergence incudes anyone’s whose brain does not function “typically”. So BPD, Bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, OCD, etc. all make a person neurodivergent. So actually, using YOUR logic, in that respect they are in the same category as ADHD. The difference, aside from the actual symptoms, is that BPD develops due to trauma, whereas ADHD is typically something people are born with.
