I'm not just reminded of film reel spooling and grading but also of "bromides." Post producers used to scan bromides, which are printed white against black supers, for online compositing. Flame machines from the late 1990s were the size of ATMs ~

My grandfather ran a company called ‘Stewart & Morrison’, established in 1960 and is considered by design historian Robert Stacey to have been “arguably Canada's first truly modern graphic design outfit” .. interesting guy, was a Freemason and drank daily martinis and lived to over 100 😅

Edit* lol nvm I just listened to your podcast with Jesse Nyberg* Chris, why do you think you landed on being a futurist? What aimed you at being so apt to pivot, as opposed to being someone who does not see the opportunities through change?
@thefutur

intelligence is pattern recognition. when the trend lines move it would be foolish not to move. I'm not attached to much, so my resistance to change is less than others.

Hey guys, just out of curiosity, you used to write 'with' as "w/ Ian Dawson" before but here you've written as "With Ian Dawson". Any reason why? 😅
@thefutur

no. we should stick w/. there's a team who works on this and they don't always do it the way I do it.

@@thefutur Thank you for the clarification, Chris.I have been writing it as "w/" since the first time I saw in on your video way back and was curious why it was not so here. 😅 ATM i felt like being betrayed by a friend who got me into smoking and then he quits. 🤣

All these concerns with Ai is purely premature anxiety on the basis that most of the technology is based on training models that are stealing intellectual property. That’s not a basis for survival of a new technology nor will it be sustainable. Many tech companies are overstating what their own models can actually do, just to give the illusion to investors that they are keeping up when in reality it’s not so.

You know how you guys were talking about how apple should give away AR headsets to educator, engineers, developers etc..? Here in India, Miceosoft has paired with Central Board of School Education (CBSE) where they're basically building hubs for students and dogitalising middle and highschools. Right now this is just a pilot project, last year my class was chosen to be a part of this but things got delayed and now our jr batch is going to lead the experiment. The idea is that they're going to give students tablets and try to make every assignment online. They're also trying to make simple cbse schools woro on dual mediums, so students can also attend school from home and for those that are coming to school don't have to carry bags and books as a compulsion. Microsoft, previously used to distributed laptops and train teachers to use microsoft products in their daily activities. They would also hold workshops for 365 and now copilot. I think, microsoft should distribute their headsets in these environments too, maybe just 8-12 grade (since right now, them paired with cbse have chosen 8th grade to be the right class for the pilot project)

My big thing with future tech is obviously the malpractice of ai currently swept under the rug by big companies scapping our images, art, text, everything without our consent. And also the increase in anxiety, depression, loneliness, and even more so the myopia epidemic from our devices and the amount of close work we do. If we had glasses and lenses that we use for everything at our fingertips, holy hell we're gonna increase the amount of children and adults with myopia and retinal detachment, glaucoma, everything that comes with our eye problems. So I can't really be excited about any of these advancements when they don't feel like they're at all for our best interests.
