The UN froze Mao's accounts, but one would assume Mao had some accounts on Mars and in the Belt. The UN actions would constrain Mao but not stop him - at least at first.

Not to mention the hidden accounts that were actually funding the project. After all it wouldn't have done to have it appear on the corporation's quarterly reports as the Secret Caliban Project, would it. And while you can try restricting Mao's access to his own personal and corporate accounts, you can't just shut down a megacorp's entire finances without disastrous consequences. They just made it slightly harder for Mao. Not insurmountable, especially if he was anticipating a subsequent betrayal. [He did know Erinwright, after all.]

12:34 Holden is such a stand-up guy here - he and everyone else are still pissed at Naomi for giving Fred the sample, but when Avasarala calls that a stupid choice, he actually starts to defend it as if it were his fault, rather than taking the easy way out by throwing Naomi under the bus.

Alex really deserved that from his Ex, we can love the characters, but they are by no means perfect.

Erinwright knew that Anna initially talked the Secretary General out of the attack; at the end, he was pinning the blame on her, not the SG. Which is more infuriating by a long shot, IMO.

I think you're the first reactor to so accurately predict Theo's demise. All the Expanse women are badasses, including Mei. Amos said that to leave Baltimore, he had to die. "I didn't always work in space" is funny...until we remember that Amos was raised in brothels and knows how to entertain pedophiles...and has residual anger for pimps who use pregnant women and children (remember his anger at Roma). To be honest, periodically cycling the power should have been part of the regular maintenance of those rail gun emplacements. Bad procedures on their part. The UN probably can't locate all of Mao's money, and he probably has plenty of _sub rosa_ sources to borrow from. Nobody but Avasarala and Mao know about Errinwright's complicity in the Eros incident.

Came here to say that re Theo to! Impressive, do like getting an Author's perspective on these movies. Theo is yet another Expanse bit character that you get to really appreciate in their short time onscreen. RIP dude, you where a good (if twitchy) soul.

Good point re Chrisjen being in the trenches - now she really gets to see the impact of the policies she pushes, the human cost it has on the outer planets.

Great reaction! Erinwright is such a good character! So well written and acted! JP Mao actually having a conscience! Love the dynamic on the Rocinante right now! Looking forward to the next one!

"We're torturing CHILDREN." It sounds so common sense to stop when Jules-Pierre says it like that. What sane person WOULDN'T stop? Love your interjection of 'YOU' when Errinwright was asking what made the railgun situation worse. LOL/SNORT Note that powering up/down a railgun should NOT have been a risky move, there is no expectation that a military-grade device should be so twitchy. It was bad design or bad maintenance, not the SG's fault. But Errinwright used it to good advantage, as a smart villain does! 😁

17:48 Fortunately for Anna, her family was in St. Petersburg. They could have been in danger, though. It was just random chance that the warhead that made it was targeted at South America and not Russia. It would have been a pretty scary moment to live through.

If I remember correctly, in the novels the Secretary General (Esteban Sorrento-Gillis) is South American by origin. Uruguayan, maybe. So it did hit close to home.

This is interesting, to see Mao's human side. Cortazar and perhaps Strickland have had their humanity suppressed, but at least Mao is not a plastic villian. It gives some believability to [spoiler].

Yep you are approaching the end to another book. No idea why they cut the seasons this way but it must have been cost savings to keep production going.

They originally wanted to do 13 episodes in the first season to get through all of the first book, but SyFy only committed to 10 episodes. Rather than cut the story down to fit in those 10, they chose to spill the last third or so of the first book over into season 2. The second book extending into season 3 is just follow-on from that.
