The Expanse is good, but it's too highly rated to be called underrated. Man in the High Castle is just as good, but less widely acclaimed, for example.

Books are amazing as well, their just different enough to feel different from the show but still fundamentally the same so you won't be disappointed by the show afterwards. More drama and action -> show, more characterization and detailed story -> books.

@@Fartucus I don't think that's representative. a lot happens between the Cant and the Roci. there's huge suspense and engagement.

@@Fartucus the only ep I had to get through was the first. The end of episode 2 and 3 were intense and had me hooked, iirc. There is a lot to take in, though, in the beginning.

Luckily this show has better directors who understand the show and the writers of the books churn out the books and consult the show writers who actually have something to write off of.

@@Cattaclysmic The first 3 seasons of GoT were far far better than the first 3 seasons of The Expanse. People seem to forget how GoT was one of the best series of all time for its first 6-7 seasons.

Whenever the space lasagna comes up I celebrate for a few minutes. Underrated character/lasagna

It starts slow and it does get confusing if you lose track of whats going on.. but if you can keep up of whats happening.. then you will love the show

@@reyalexandro First few episodes I was mainly into it for the space battles and stuff, if you're not a big fan of the idea of trying to have 'realistic' space battles then it might take a while to get interesting.

Same here, I watched a few episodes years ago and lost interest. Just recently binged everything up until now and it's so damn good and I want more.

Weeeeell The Expanse was written by GRRM's assistant so it's tangentally related at least...

He mainly does well with series based on a book series, primarily because they actually offer huge opportunities to talk about the expanded world and far-reaching narrative. GoT and The Expanse work so well because there are different nations, different factions and loyalties that sometimes work better when you have a map or diagram to explain it. I haven't seen Chernobyl, but I don't think Mr. Robot has too much to really talk about in an analysis.

Maybe my favorite, right behind Miller. I don't know if you read the books at all, but her absence in the first few really stands out.

@@BeCurieUs I didn't even know the books existed until I was done watching the first season, which I didn't even watch until halfway through the second. I was blown away that a show as good as this was hiding in plain sight on SyFy. Like, Defiance was competent, this was EXCELLENT.

A pity her show representation seem neutered as hell compared to the book version. Still probably couldn't have found a better actress with a smokey voice to portray the character.

You must have thought that Season 8 of GoT was brilliant television. Season 4 of TE was a massive D&D-style turd dropped right in the middle of the carpet. It took FOUR SEASONS to finally kill off a semi-major character. The plot armor is strong on this show. The biggest problem (well, there are so many to choose from, maybe it isn't the biggest) is that all of the characters this season became criminally stupid. I thought maybe going through the Ring caused some serious brain damage, but people on Earth and Mars have gotten dumb as mud, too. Ashford and Drummer had a couple of decent scenes, but pretty much everyone else has lost their mojo. And what the hell is up with that little teenage girl running away from home armed with nothing other than "desire to achieve" and ending up on a ship where she apparently becomes the captain in less than 72 hours??? As if we don't have enough Mary Sues being shoved down our throats! Sheesh!!

You are in for a treat. Watch the first three seasons. It’s all waiting for you on Amazon Prime. They will drop the fourth season in a few days but no need to rush. This is a show that deserves to be savored.

It certainly is. The first season is a bit slow and spotty at places, but beyond season 1 it's essentially what Game of Thrones seasons 1-4 had to offer in quality.

It's pretty damn good. Even if sci-fi isn't your thing, watch the first four or five episodes of the first season and you'll be blown away, guaranteed.

@THECOMMENTMASTER 7 Babylon 5 is overrated. Better than star trek in some ways but definitely overblown.

Amazon picked it up for distribution but the original independent production company continues to make it. Same show runner, same writers including the AUTHORS of the book series. It will stay true.

Jeff Bezoshas said that one of the reasons he bought the show was to see the series finished. Unknown to some, Bezos is a mega fan of the book series.
