Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip first met on two separate occasions in 1934 and 1937. The Queen fell in love with the future Duke of Edinburgh in 1939, when she was 13-years-old, and the couple started trading letters. Some eight years later - when Queen Elizabeth II was 21-years-old - the Palace announced their engagement. They married on November 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey. This documentary remembers the first 50 years of their marriage.
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

The Queen was never the same after her “beloved” Philip’s passing. It must’ve been extremely hard but she pushed through another year without her “strength and stay”. Rip to the both of them. The world mourns the absence of this lovely couple.

What is your understanding of DIGNITY? There is NO dignity in a woman who marries her biological COUSIN! There is NO dignity in a woman who supports INVASIONS of other countries, the FLEECING of such countries (in other words, STEALING the TREASURES of those countries and making them hers). What degree of dignity does one find in IMPOVERISHING weaker countries and islands to augment her wealth? What about the countless MILLIONS who died during BRITISH invasions and the HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of humans forced into SLAVERY? The BIGGEST green DIAMOND of India once lay in The Tower of London. Others, along from those STOLEN from Africa and elsewhere decorated her crown. What ungodly dignity! My studies of World History take me into the British Monarchy from the beginning of the 10th Century...1,121 years ago. I have found NOTHING dignified, holy or Christian-like about those so called 'Royals'...except DIANA Spencer! IGNORANCE (not knowing) is among the worst POISONS this Earth has ever known!

Robin Adams She dressed in uniform because at the age of 19, Princess Elizabeth joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS). After joining, she trained as a driver and mechanic with the rank of Second Subaltern. Five months later she was promoted to Junior Commander, which was the equivalent of Captain. She didn't dress as a soldier in sympathy. She WAS a soldier.

@@ginowrld6582 YOU should learn how to read. They were double cousins, but NOT first cousins. Elizabeth and Philip were both great great grandchildren of Queen Victoria. Elizabeth was also a great great grandchild of King Christian IX of Denmark and Philip was a great grandson of King Christian IX of Denmark. Your vulgar post is only proof of your lack of formal education. In case you haven't noticed, very few post in that manner. That is because most have learned the "rules of engagement" for argument in college English 101. It is taught early on, so that other classes can be passed. After using them for one's college experience, they are never forgotten, but used for life. The rules are taught in all schools, in all counties, because they form the basis for all communication, even in foreign tongues. The rules are simple and finite and have not changed since Socrates.

What some are not aware of is that she had the "wisdom" of marrying her double cousin (Prince Philip) who was raised in Paris for his first 7 years and then raised at Kensington Palace, and then attended Gordonstoun school in Scotland and then became an officer in the British Navy and then was put in charge of all the Royal properties by King George VI, which Philip then properly organized the hundreds of G & F properties which is then systematically put on regular schedules of maintenance, repairs and improvements, from roofs and chimneys, and foundations and doors and windows and heating and plumbing and painting and planting and gardens and trees that had never been done before. She never had to worry about a thing as regards the physical properties of her hundreds of homes in England, Scotland or Ireland. Philip did it all. In fact, Philip got almost ALL the brains and when one reads a wise comment or a well thought out decision coming from her mouth, I could hear Philip in all her statements. She didn't make a move without his input and that makes her VERY wise in her choice of husbands.

When they finally saw their children (Prince Charles & Princess Anne) after being abroad for long, they shake their little hands instead of a long hug baffled me. But I understood that maybe it’s to uphold their “image” Glad this is over. The royals are now more affectionate towards their kids.
@papercup2517

People were much more formal in days gone by, especially in England. And the Royal Family were possibly the most formal of the formal. It does look strange to us now, and was probably not great for the emotional development of the children, but at the time, I think it was more interpreted as training in that brave wartime spirit of stoical independence/ emotional self-control, so that (theoretically) one could withstand anything... the 'stiff upper lip'/ 'keep calm and carry on' mentality, and all that... During WWII, you really needed that sort of attitude to survive and not succumb to Hitler's bullying, with bombs raining down all around you, night after night, and very challenging food and clothing, etc, rationing, and all the men off fighting... All my parents' generation had this spirit, to some degree, and they admired the Queen, greatly, for hers. In a way, perhaps it's no wonder there's been such a distressing cultural clash to the point of a rift with the advent of Harry's more emotionally assertive and self-focused, couture-loving American wife. In the more old-fashioned, reserved British RF, the ethos is still primarily all about duty and putting the good of the family and nation ahead of any prolonged introspection into one's personal feelings... although I do think, as you suggest, it is all slowly changing with the younger generations. There may well be something to be said for having a bit of both attitudes, in moderation.

@@papercup2517 Yes, I so agree with you , we can never forget that, if we as a whole understood better the ways of the past we could prepare better for the future instead of simply criticize it and doing the exact opposite. And to be honest it reflects now with a world pandemic where we see too many people crying for their rights and privileges without any regard for their safety and that of others. I am not saying that the stiff upper lip was a good thing per se, but we , and by we I mean particularly the " western society" have run to the opposite spectrum of things, we learned nothing from past mistakes but instead generated several generations of weak, entitled children , so worried with giving them everything and being so understanding, clearing away all problems and responsibilities from their paths, that we are in fact making the same mistakes by turning them into immature irresponsible adults.

@car-less-ness6770 3 жыл бұрын
@@papercup2517 Thank you for sharing your insight into the "little handshakes with their children". It is true "the good of the whole" was always emphasized and the stiff upper lip was very common in social circles even in my Father's family. Unfortunately, the abuse by the parents and siblings is never aired out and refreshed and healed. People generally are NOT EMOTIONLESS and if the pattern of secrecy (The Catholic priests sexually deprived hurting the young boys and girls in their care) continues a legacy of hatred and anger boils out. I am sure that it was most likely mentioned to Meghan on the sly from certain members of the Royal Family that they were concerned about the depth of colour Meghan and Harry's children would have. It is an attitude from the days in Nazi Germany that individuals would be more concerned about the outward appearance instead of the inward character appearance. My Mother, too, who grew up in Canada had the same opinion of the colour and the physical attributes of my daughter who is Chinese.

@@bluezauza Thank you for sharing this nugget of truth. The entitlement of the children of the up and coming generation of kids who will soon will be adults is disgusting to behold. The rudeness, the ugly references to ancient loved ones who struggled to bring freedom of democracy to the "western world" is disgusting to observe. Yes, imagine the world especially in the "western world" dominated by these immature and irresponsible adults. This example is the triggering of attacking the White House, January 06, 2021 just because their self-centered agenda was not fulfilled. Disgusting!

The Queen understands that her greatest power is her power to set a good example. The Covid pandemic continues to kill because too many people think the Public Health rules don't apply to them, or don't apply "this time." That's why both the Queen and President Biden try so hard to set a good example about mask wearing and social distancing: because the Health protocols are for ALL of us. We can save lives.

I know there a royal family I am 62 born in 1958, I have always thought of them as part of my family they have always been there since I was born. Our queen and prince Philip are human like the rest of us, so what he spoke out at times, he like our queen have given there adult like to our country and the commonwealth everything in service ,we owe them so much. He did so much but never wanted credit in any way because he was a true royal.
