The Washington Post has obtained a trove of internal Facebook documents via disclosures made to the Securities and Exchange Commission and provided to Congress in redacted form by Frances Haugen’s legal counsel. The redacted versions were reviewed by a consortium of news organizations. The documents show how Facebook’s own employees were aware of how the site was fostering polarization and misinformation, contrary at times to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s public comments. @Jonathan Cesari Not everyone has thousands of documents released showing they explicitly lied. We may suspect they are lying, but without proof, they cannot be prosecuted. It's also interesting that you believe everyone is doing wrong -- people who believe that often use it to justify their own immoral actions or to support other immoral people.

They own so many other social media platforms at this point, you have to avoid nearly all of them to protect yourself and your data. I think I'm lucky to have grown up before internet came along into the mainstream. I don't find it difficult to not use social media, for the most part.

It’s called fremium, which means it’s free but there’s a trade off so they can make money and still offer the service for free. Think about it, how do they pay their engineers? Pay the bills ? You data gets sold on the market to companies. Quit complaining if you don’t like it get off Facebook

Way back when Facebook was relatively new and first went public on the stock market I wondered what their angle was. Everything was touted as "free" for users of the platform. I was very skeptical about why anyone would go through all of that work to create a widespread product that was "free" to use. Nothing is ever free and fast forward all these years later now we know what their angle was. I never joined Facebook because I thought it was stupid to put all of your personal information out there for everyone to see. Besides, nobody cares what I had for dinner last night.

Back when I had Facebook, I tried to change my name to be a little more discreet and they were real finicky about me not using my real name and if I wanted to change it back that I'd need a legit ID for them to approve. That alone was enough proof for me that they needed your info to match with your name to sell to advertisers. I deleted my account immediately after that and that was about 3 years ago and I haven't missed it at all. Pretty much checking in to see what everyone is crying about today and dumb videos here on youtube is all my internet time wasting that I do now, and I don't have any notifications turned on except for my ringtones for calls and texts, so I never know if someone responds to these dumb brain dropping comments I leave haha. They may feel ignored, but I don't care. It's not worth my time. Social media has destroyed this country by helping with the division of this nation. If you hate dems because you're a repub, you are why this country is falling apart. If you hate repubs because you are a dem, you are why this country is falling apart. When I was in the Navy, I volunteered my time and potentially my life to protect both of you whiny dipshits like a real American.

I have never, and I will never have a Facebook account. I must be psychic because I said from the very beginning that putting oneself "out there" on social media is like inviting the world into your home. There's no true privacy on social media. I shake my head over and over when people say things and then have apologize later. But the damage has been done. A person can NEVER completely "take back" a comment or opinion once stated. ALL of us have, at some point in our lives, said or done something we are not proud of. We are all human, it happens. I like to make my life easier and keep my opinions inside my 4 walls!! Besides, who am I to think my opinion is SO important that the world NEEDS to hear it!! How about everyone does the world a favor and not use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. I promise you......the world will keep spinning!!

To look at this from another perspective, a lot of the hate speech and misinformation that social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, KZfaq have taken down are viewed by Trumpists as them censoring conservative speech, something about which they are continuously complaining. If they take down all hate speech and misinformation then the Trumpists would go ballistic. This is the prime reason for Trump's new platform called Truth Social that will not censor any of the hate speech and misinformation postings.

@@johniii8147 That bit of nuance doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to promote pro-Amazon and anti-other big tech news. It’s just a distinction, I was wrong in saying Amazon owns it but there’s no point in saying they aren’t trying their best to pose other companies in a negative light.

@@johniii8147 of course they’re separate entities on paper clearly it reduces skepticism and allows people to make that a core argument of them being not being in Amazon’s favor, but if you don’t think Jeff Bezos ownership influences their bias I don’t know what to tell you. If the owner is the creator of Amazon obviously it influences them maybe not directly but subconsciously they know who’s wallet they want to protect.

Challenge yourself not to use facebook for atleast a week and youll see that you dont actually need it. Deleted Facebook app years ago. One of the best decisions I made. Like quitting the nasty smoking habit.
