Honestly how I feel about the gen 5 pokedex, it has a handful of absolutely amazing, top tier pokemon, but then a load of terrible ones that I hate, whereas some other generations are just kind of generally 'okay/fairly good' across the board.

whirlipede is cool though

Not just Gen 5, either, though that is the biggest example. Pretty much every time Gamefreak ever did anything remotely different or unique, it was shit on by the community. Legends Arceus is the first time in the history of the franchise that the "new" thing was actually received well.

I think the more different, ambitious things or new ideas that a larger part of the community wanna see in Pokemon have more to do with the following aspects: - story (more involved plot, more depth in characters) - structure (open world with more freeform exploration, not wanting to do the same beat 8 gyms beat elite 4 plus champion journey) - features (battle frontier, following pokemon or pokemon being more interactive in the world) - new mechanics (stealing pokemon from trainers, bigger teams). Different looking or out of the box Pokemon designs doesn't seem to be that important for them.

@@islandboy9381 Story: Gen 5 had that and got shit on. Structure: Gen 7 had that and got shit on. Mechanics: Gen 6 had that and got shit on. People don't know what they want.

@@Celestia282 who shit on gen 5's story? its the one aspect that it actually got praise for even at the time, although the story kinda falls off with the Ghetsis twist IMO gen 7 proposed a different structure but still turned out to be the most hand holding of the series as for gen 6 mechanics last time I checked most people liked and even loved Mega Evolutions in gen 6 save for the competitive crowd I guess? plus most people were fine with fairy type introduction, even the Dexnav in ORAS got major praise. Execution of said new ideas while the rest of the package is well integrated with it still matters in the end. You're also conveniently leaving out other new ideas from before that people clearly want for years but Gamefreak takes out and throw out the baby with the bathwater cause one singular aspect in a gen got criticized.

I dislike them because I just don't like monkeys. I don't know why everyone else hates them, though. Aside from being monkeys, they are very mid Pokemon, not worth all this vitriol.

My issue is with Simisear specifically. In my top 10 worst designs ever. Probably #1

A Watchog (as a Patrat, obviously) was my first wild catch in Pokémon Black! I can’t bring myself to hate the line because of it! She served me well, too! Same with Simipour and Serperior. They were all great. Actually my whole team consisted of Pokemon I’m sure would be overlooked: Serperior, Watchog, Stoutland, Simipour, Unfezant (male) and Archeops. I’m sure people would hate my team for that, but I loved them.

I can't say anything bad about yours when one of my favs are simipour

@@CJCroen1393 your team is so close to my old one. I had a simipour who helped me against burgh (I had no potions and he was my last mon against him. He dodged 2 razor leaves before taking down his final mon. Anime moment right there.) I also got a stountland and had a serperior for a while.

Pretty cool! I just went the boring route with Burgh and used Tranquill lol I _did_ have a shonen anime moment in my LeafGreen Nuzlocke when my Poliwrath took out my rival’s Charizard after taking three Wing Attacks to the face, though!

When I played Black, a Patrat was the first wild Pokémon I caught, and because of this I kept her on the team and trained her up. She was _mostly_ an HM user, but she was still competent in battle, even taking out Caitlin’s Musharna for me!

Weeeelllll...Alomomola does have the benefit of being used competitively a lot out of the Gen 5 mons

clamperl is so adorable, how could anyone not like it

Clamperl can be an absolute beast in competition. Give it deep sea tooth and it can tear through a team. I can tell from looking at Gorebyss that certain fans love it, it has a shell bikini after all

Watchog is a completely fine rodent based on a groundhog, I don't see Pidgeot getting hate or Raticate being literally just a big ass rat At least it has a more creative name than Seel or Doduo or Starly Also Pidove, Tranquil and Unfeazant are cute, just a pigeon which are one of the most common birds (Also Is Unfeazant really a pigeon? Sure doesn't look like one. I think it may be another kind of bird I'm not sure)

Also Whirlipede is cool, plus it's really different from a lotta of middle stage bug pokémon that are cocoons

Also Trumbeak is an interesting middle Evo, especially for a regional bird (the entire line is interesting because Pikipek is woodpecker and Toucanon is a toucan) because all the evolutions aren't the same bird species.

Tranquill is one of my favorites from gen 5 too.

The Vivillon line as a whole probably has a bit more popularity due to its regional designs gimmick :)

It's in Smash, so that's probably helping it quite a lot

Primary inspiration is based on Zhu Bajie, kinda like Infernape's design is based around Wu Kong.

Its rarity probably saved it here since people would look up where to find one and/or evolve it

people weren't dunking on Mega evos. They were complaining about Charizard and Mewtwo having two of them (gen 1 favoritism), lack of gen 6 pokemon getting any at all, and some of them being hilariously busted....and then they brought in Mega Ray which was even more cracked than anything prior
