Very good video. I remember a friend having one of these as we got into the Super Nintendo era and thinking it was just too cool looking. And the games just worked without all of the BS blowing into carts and reseating of the toaster model. I really wish I begged my pops for one myself at the time. I have one now, and they are just magical now. So cool to see that you kept yours after so long too! A good friend of mine managed to reverse engineer this model and is about to release his revision of the 101, that you can build from the ground up (given if you have soldering skills and can procure the parts). I'm gonna be looking into getting it done if I can.

I sold my toaster/front loader NES to get a top loader and a retro gaming convention this past weekend. People find ways to mod their systems to get that composite look.

I had a top loader but sold it about 10 years ago. It always worked perfectly but the rf only capability was a real downer. It's a good solid console, but I don't miss it.

I was so excited about the release of the top loader because of the blanking screen on my original NES. Even though I was getting new Super Nintendo games. RF only did not bother me because my TV only had a single RF input. My biggest disappointment with the top loader was the jail bars.

Absolutely one thing I left out in the video was rf was pretty much phased out on new television sets in 1994.

The video output is literally the only technical downgrade. This machine is smaller and better designed than the original NES and is Nintendo supposed to be concerned about Game Genie? What the hell is that anyway? The Model 101 is an overall improvement and it was launched because many original NES models stopped working.

Excellent video, really hit all the points on this one. I have a NES Top Loader and I don't use it much but even with RF Only it works great for some of my small CRT TVs that don't have composite input either

If I have a good cable it looks decent on my 20" crt.

For sure this is one of those gaming items that "if you knew back then what you know now." The Dog bone controller is the best controller IMO.

I always wanted to pick one up but not having the composite out always made me pause on it. Now they just cost too much for what they do. I do love my snes mini though. Nice video production.

I would love on of these so much, but they are extremely rare where I live. Almost none of them seem to be around, and I can't remember ever seeing one as a kid. The RF only connection would be really rough though.

Ebay dude. A couple years ago they were tough to even find at retro stores. I almost bought one then my mom found my old one in storage and shipped it to me.

Some had faulty rf modulators. Nintendo replaced it with an a/v jacks. They are very very rare. One recently sold for about $3K.. or somewhere around there. Mine was modded with a hi-def nes kit. Hdmi is the way to go on these consoles.

I gotta get around to modding mine as well. I'd be happy with a composite mod..
