The Western Railway Elevated Corridor, also known as the Oval Maidan-Virar elevated corridor, was a proposed rapid transit corridor that would have run along the same alignment as the Western Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway, and link Oval Maidan with Virar.he Western railway elevated corridor was first proposed in the 2007 Railway Budget presented by then Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav. The technical feasibility report for the project was prepared by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) and the French firm Systra. On 23 August 2012, Western Railway (WR) held a planning meeting with potentially interested parties at Churchgate station. The meeting included 20 companies including Reliance infrastructure, Gammon, IL&FS, Essar and GMR.[3] According to Sharat Chandrayan, CPRO of WR, "The road-show was mainly to explain requirements for the project to prospective bidders and to understand their suggestions before bidding takes place".A delay occurred in signing of the State Support Agreement (SSA) between WR and the Government of Maharashtra due to differences of opinion between the State Government, the Planning Commission and the railways on issues related to FSI, land acquisition, shifting of underground utilities and commercial use of land.[6] The SSA is the state's commitment to help Railways in land acquisition, shifting utility services on time and attaining more FSI to help developers generate funds. WR demanded an FSI of five for 13 land parcels across the city, in order to optimise commercial development of its existing plots as major source of funds for the project. However, the state government expressed reservations in granting an FSI up to four, saying that it would permit need-based FSI only. The project is planned to be implemented as a joint public-private partnership (PPP) project of the railways, the state government and private organisation on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis
The Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit (MRT) system serving the city of Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region in Maharashtra, India. The system is designed to reduce traffic congestion in the city, and supplement the overcrowded Mumbai Suburban Railway network. It is being built in three phases over a 15-year period, with overall completion expected in October 2026. When completed, the core system will comprise fourteen high-capacity metro railway lines and one metrolite line, spanning a total of 356.972 kilometres (221.812 mi) (24% underground, the rest elevated, with a minuscule portion built at-grade), and serviced by 286 stations.

Mumbai highly struggles on East - West connectivity. Till date there is no single railway station which can interchange for all 3 lines of Mumbai together. Also East - West roads are limited and all of them are super congested. Highways are name sake Express ways. Narrow patches, potholes and increasing number of vehicles already dragged speed to average 20-30 kph.

💯% I agree on this. We desperately needs an East West connectivity. Highways are always crowded and conditions of road doesn't allow the adequate speed for the vehicles.

Bombay Central - Byculla, Sion Bandra, Santacruz Kurla, Andheri Vikhroli, Goregaon Mulund, Dahisar Thane metro needs to be planned for better East West connectivity

Better yet I think diagonal lines (NW-SE & NE-SW) would help, like Borivali- Kurla or Bandra to Thane, we already have Andheri to Wadala but without express option!

@@msdian_abhi I know, but still, as PowerTrain grows, he can improve his speaking skills and hire video editors and writers. He can bring original content by visiting the projects. I mean, just visit B1M's old videos (6 years back and stuff, where he speaks of BIM - Building Information Modelling). All are cringe, lol. And coming to the audience part, it's not like the Indian audience is small or anything.

@@abhisekdas435 bruh, watch his initial, maybe 2016 and 2017 videos. You will cringe watching it. By 2018 he was doing similar stuff as Aakash Bhai (PowerTrain), of course not InfraNews, but explanations and stuff. Even in 2019, his content improved, but not like what he does today. It was only after 2020 his channel just grew so big. PowerTrain is doing this seriously for the last 2-3 years. You can't even compare them today. Compare 2018-2019 Fred (B1M) to 2022 Aakash (PowerTrain); PowerTrain has improved much in his content.

@@dr.python dude interviews are expert opinions; they are needed. You can't be a master of all domains, unlike how Indian KZfaqrs. In that sense, Aakash (Power Train) is honest; he only explains stuff related to Infrastructure (not just construction, but digital infrastructure, business infrastructure etc.), but definitely not everything from Bollywood to Politics to Science to Economics to Business Case studies to History to Tourism to Culture. You do know how some Indian KZfaqrs give gyaan on every subject they have expertise in or not? That's definitely not the way for an original creator.

A city like Mumbai needs 3 systems. 1) A metro connecting all parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai 2) A suburban system connecting outer suburbs like Dahanu/Kasara/Khopoli 3) A RRTS/semi high-speed system which could connect satellite cities like Pune, Surat, Nashik etc Metro work has just started to pick up pace. The suburban system is overloaded and development like building more tracks and better stations happens very slowly. Lastly no RRTS/semi high-speed system is planned which in future could lead to traffic jams on the expressways and highways entering Mumbai.

@@pieterwatson611 I think it's different. In suburban rail system trains could only go up to 120km of distance but in RRTS they can go to longer distances. Also RRTS is a semi high-speed network. Currently Delhi has a metro system, suburban system and in future will have RRTS.

@@Chaitanya1310 This is not true. Looking at RRTS in Delhi the distance is less (with exceptions) than 120 km. It's just a different kind of suburban (but more regional) rail. To nearby cities as Pune would be reached by ordinary intercity railway (or high speed railway), as well as from Delhi to Agra, NOT RRTS. You are misusing the term RRTS.

Agar dekha jaaye toh western line mein utna load nahi hai jitna ki corrupt politicians ne kiya hai. Agar vasai, virar mein theek se development karte toh load 1 side nahi hota aur dono taraf se log ek time mein aate jaate rehte

True, The rampant corruption in Mumbai Suburban led to the Vast number Illegal, Unsafe, False buildings colloquially known as "Load Barring" (or similar sounding word idk for sure). Damn those buildings ruined Millions of Lives of residents of those buildings. People bought them thinking they invested in property in Mumbai only to know the truth a decade later that No Certifications, Approvals, Contracts from Govt were passed and they're essentially living in Illegal buildings, who's value has only decreased rather than increasing. Such cheaps properties were a major reason why Suburban became so much populated. Although now buildings have permits, but still many of the Towers in Suburban are in Grey Areas, Partly Legal one can say.

But before these transits better planing of city and road is needed. Metro is constructed on the same congested unplanned land. Compared to western countries where cities were first planned then metros were made. Such things never happend in India and now congestion is even one because of Metro construction.

Harbour line should connect with Western line till Bhayandar... with that 30% of crowd of western line who wnts to go South Mumbai can use harbor line trains.... becoz of this load will decrease on western line train.. Harbour train r running in very low capacity at present currently till Goregaon Harbour line train running... just expand till Bhayandar

If it can be extended till Bhayandar then extending it further north towards Virar shouldn't be much of a problem. Traffic from Virar side is much much more in comparison and can surely use this capacity.

Before deciding that the project failed or not, let the project get completed,this slow pace of work is actually a headache but now it is operating between dahisar and kandivali only which is a very less traveled route......if kt gets completed till Andheri, it would be one of the most crowded metro line as andheri is a commercial space.

We need proper East - West connectivity in Mumbai via Metro rail lines. Not just that, I feel that a route similar to the Diva - Vasai line needs to be made, so that Vasai and Virar can have proper connectivity with Central and Eastern Mumbai suburbs. In fact, if they make these connections through traditional railways, we could also have a couple of new express train terminals.

Vasai-Diva and Vasai-Panvel only have a total of 8 services a day in total, which is usually 6 services because of delays.

When this Western Railway elevated project was announced by Western Railway between Churchgate and Virar , the Maharashtra state government which is biased on infrastructure development in mumbai always , added CSMT - Panvel , as all are aware Navi Mumbai gets a lion share of funds at the cost of Western Side of Mumbai in particular, then after few meetings the Western Elevated Corridor was dropped and surprisingly CSMT - Panvel was only approved. This baised approach towards mumbai not only in case of elevated project of railways but many such cases has made life hell for average Mumbaikars who reside between Borivali to Virar in particular. People unfortunately are too adjusting and don't raise such issues which harm their daily lives that's the sad part

You are wrong, Churchgate Virar elevated was dropped as MMRDA and MRVC proposed a metro on the same route Metro 3, 2A7, 9 and 14 go through the same route. Navi Mumbai on the other hand doesn't have any metro. Talking about bias Western line always gets the very best of railways last and worst is harbour line with 15 mins frequency.

I disagree with the part that metro is running parallel to this alignment. Metro lines would serve only till Dahisar, what about the extended suburbs? Nobody cares about connectivity beyond Mira Bhayandar. What about Virar?

Mumbai is already overpopulated. India needs another such city so setting up iim in Mumbai instead of tier-2 cities dosen't really make sense because it's already a financial capital and it doesn't need a new iim just like how bangalore dosen't need a IIT these cities are best at what they do and have developed beyond their scope so it is better to set up these IIT and IIMs in tier 2 cities and making them the new financial and IT hubs making them new Mumbais and Bangalores. By doing this India's development would spread throughout the country and not just some 4-5 cities.

A reason which is not mentioned is, lack of interest. Lack of will and the policy of fooling public by making announcements and leaving there. That is the real reason. Another examples: Mthl and Navi Mumbai Airport. Discussed many decades without doing anything. A typical policy of those in power on those days.

First of all a convicted criminal like Lalu proposed the project, that would have attracted a lot of kickback corruption. Secondly even the state congress government was busy in corruption like Adarsh. The project was doomed at the start itself

Unnecessary crowd in Mumbai should be removed. No matter how much state or Central govt do for mumbai it's not going to be sufficient or successful ever. Everyday lakhs come to Mumbai.

This is not reason , if it was elevated people have gone up threshold too instead make trains different. , like super fast and allow it with different color passes only , locals slow seperate them coz it will ease crowds in some way stops limited people rush out to what’s available try it

There is a need of Special Corridor for Kalyan Kasara and Kalyan Karjat Local trains. In Western line there can be Virar Andheri Or Dahanu Road Andheri local train corridor. Hence express train will bypass all stations upto Kalyan in Central Line and upto Andheri in Western. Then local trains will run smoothly

Bhai Kitna hi karlo Mumbai ke bas ki nahi hai development karna public transport Mein wahan ke logon ka attitude defend karne wala hai apni cattle carrying train network ko. Itna wahiyat system hai vo kya hi bataun maybe it was good 15 years ago but in current situation it's one of the worst not to mention you go into the city which so expensive to live that forced you to live 35-40kms away from work in the first place. 😂 Despite that people behave like "it's not that bad" or the most famous line "it's much better than most cities" No it's not you think that because you haven't been to other cities. No one wants to travel via that junk especially on workdays. 😑 People are forced to buy cars tht not only pollutes but also would have increased the buyers living standard instead if he had saved the money purchasing car, fuel cost (20k/month or more if you travel far which you would be in Mumbai than any other city in India), maintenance (also more because your running will be much higher than avg run). Instead he/she is burning money in car instead of sending their children to better schools, colleges, able to afford better Healthcare, better home, etc. Indirect consequences of not having metro system are very high if you think about it with open mind. But I guess environment is more important for them so ab kya hi kahein uska.

very true. I had my office in nariman point and commuting was a big headache. mumbai walas have so much pride in living slums and travelling like cattles haha. For upper class / management ppl, those who make 50LPA+, they should move out of that sh!thole city asap ! take their office to ahmedabad / gurgaon / hyd. No marathi manoos nonsense, no terrible infra, etc.
