My 2014 6.7 went through 3 def pumps within the first year. Not a hiccup in the 8 years of ownership since certain parts fell off. No-one is going to convince me these emissions packed diesels will run trouble free long term. You might find a few that do, but eventually the issues will catch up.

Not to mention, less fuel mileage when emissions intact, which in turn causes more pollution because less fuel to the gallon. Oh, and no longer have to buy TOXIC DEF fluid that comes in huge PLASTIC containers. What a joke!

Their is TSB on the 2021's for the EGR shorting and taking out the ECM. It happened to my 2021 3500 and the dealer screwed up diagnosing it and ended up running the truck with the new EGR stuck open. So now the dealer is buying the truck back from me because it gunked up the turbo and killed the DPF and DPF's are on a 6 month back order.

Good content. Appreciate the honest reviews. From everything I've seen if you're using these trucks to haul/tow the Ram set up is really hard to beat. My work truck is a gasser F450 but the 10 speed in it does some really goofy stuff and feels odd unless I leave it in tow mode. Now it is an aerial lift bucket truck loaded down with tools and junk so perhaps it needs to be in tow mode all the time with the weight it rides at. Maybe someday I'll move into a newer truck for my own tow rig, for now I'll stick with my 05 and 08 Dodges. Just looking at the cluster in the new trucks gives me anxiety, lol.

I have the exact same truck. Color, packages, steps, everything. It sure is a looker. And it pulls my 48’ toy hauler very comfortably. But the dead pedal is terrible. And I have the pedal commander… and as far as head clearance, I have the mega cab, and the roof goes back up for head clearance in the back seat. But I find my hair hits in the front seat. And I don’t have extra long hair. I’m 6’1”. My biggest complaints are fuel mileage and ride comfort. My best unloaded was 16. Loaded 10. And I feel like it’s capable of so much better. And as far as the ride, I know it’s a 1 ton but damn, if I hit a squirrel I can tell if it’s male or female.

Am I the only one who changes my oil filter from the bottom? I bought an adaptor that fits the bottom of the filter. It attaches to a ratchet. Unscrew it, and then just walk it down and put it on the oil container you are draining in to drain. NO need to remove intake box or anything.

Have you had any experience with EZ Lynk 3 yet? I saw it's being sold now. I'm running the Auto Agent 2 and am curious if there's any major differences aside from the size? I was, and am still so thankful the shop "nearby" was able to save me a bunch of grief and liberate my 2016 Cummins for me a little while back (which was long overdue)! They're great guys over there, but I may have to check this shop out at some point too, especially since there's a dyno! Are you still there, or are you working elsewhere now? Cool to just stumble across some local content, that's for sure! I did my best to keep the OEM parts on until they started to fail and threaten limp mode time and time again. After roughly 6 trips to the Dodge dealer down south for the same issues- replacing things under my extended warranty right before it ended at 100k, clearing codes with no success and still getting limp mode warnings, I had reached the end of my patience with the entire system... Best money I ever spent on the truck, that's for sure! But I definitely hear ya on a lot of these newer trucks that it's not as imperative to perform weight reduction surgery on them unless the stuff starts to fail. Hopefully they've ironed out a lot of the issues many of us with 3rd and 4th gen's have had. I guess only time will tell, but I'm not the most up to date on what's been happening with the 5th gen's, so maybe time has already told that story and I'm just unaware, haha.

Damn near every 6.0 and 7.3 I've worked on has exploded the hex part when I try and full the filter. My cousin was working at Ford in Ontario as an engineer and was saying his job was pretty much just designing things to break at specific times so remember someone somewhere is responsible for your woes when it goes south and you get that urge to find the guy responsible and kick him in the nuts

That’s why I pull my intake tube for my oil changes on my ‘16. Takes less than 30 seconds with a couple 8mm. Bring the oil filter out the top and plenty of room for ratchet and filter socket. No mess even without the filter t-handle plug Also on the rear, I bet if you drain via the petcock and then when it’s barely dripping you slightly crack the housing on open it’ll finish draining out the petcock without a mess. That’s the trick I use for my rear fuel/water sep for a no mess change

Since my 21 is an HO I know some of it is transmission differences, but it's not the shifting part that I'm complaining about. It's the powe once in gear and higher egts. Yes, the older trucks will go up in value but the emissions have gotten better. The problems we see from them are because workers/drivers idle and clog the DPF and poor maintenance. I’ve seen plenty of 2013s in the 200k miles with minimal emission system problems there are a lot of trucks with emissions on running fine. I hate it too but it’s here to stay. I get the feeling that a few years from now shops will be full of trucks that are getting the emissions put back on even the 2003-2008s with the basic egr and cooler system.

As a Ford guy, those midnight edition trucks are fucking gorgeous. Same opinion on the weight reduction. As long as it doesn’t have problems, I don’t really see benefit of getting rid of it. Also where is the 6.0??

I was told and I probably never have one but guys who hot shot in areas that is really hot they run synthetic diesel motor oil in the Asian . I ran 10 wt in my transmission for I guess 150 k miles . Nice truck as my friends bought trucks like yours . I asked about the mileage and he told me it did not get as good as his single wheel I think a 17 but it towed better on his toy hauler

I know this is 7 months later but I wanted to chime in. I had BF Goodrich K02's 285/65r20 E load on my 2020 3500 SRW. They drove like trash the moment warmer air came around. Had them for almost 6 months. I swapped to Nitto Ridge Grapplers 35 x 12.5 R20 F load. All of the truck guys and mechanics I know say to run NITTO Ridge Grapplers for All Terrain's because they are one of the few made to hold up our trucks. My mechanic has a set, looks brand new at 40k miles on them. I absolutely love mine, the truck rides down the road better. They handle well and everything. I still have the same mileage as when I had stock tires (The Firestones were utter trash and a safety hazard.) I would say that these are THE tire to run on them. NITTO or Toyo. Unless you want highway tires or full mud terrain.

Great video - I have a 21 ram 5500 - as for the Recomended oil - if calls for 10w30 above 0 degrees Fahrenheit and 5w40 below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Do you know if it’s safe to use 5w40 all year round ? I run hotshot secret as well but not sure if I’m better of with Amsoil or shaffrer…

@@horsetorquesdiesel couldn’t one argue quality means they know what they are doing and can hack the ECU without charging you $2600 for an old used ECU and then for some reason giving you only $500 for your untunable ECU that’s worthless? None of it makes sense. If you have a cracked ECU or an older truck, $2100 is still to much for off the shelf flash tune. I’d pay maybe $1000 for dyno time and a custom tune. I’ve never paid more than $600 for any of my custom tunes over the decades and that’s dyno time and street time.

It ain't for everyone but I do love cheap tunes, I know I'll see the truck back again for work. My personal duramax bricked a tcm 2 times before we figured out how to do it right.
