If imitation is flattery then Browning should be quite happy about this one!
This is a CYA Phantom, a Carrero y Astelarra imitation of a B25. Where does it fall short? Watch to find out…

Happy Thanksgiving my friend. Difficult to beat the truly classic lines of a Browning firearm. Differences are differences. Thanks for showing us these various arms.

Prices may be lower over here in the UK, but import duty will probably kill the advantage, much like it does if we want to purchase a ‘classic’ car in the US and import it to the UK..

CYA also made combination guns (410 & 20) and 22 mag and LR. They produced their B25 copy (named Phantom) for game, (non ventilated middle rib), skeet, and most common trap versions. Ribs were 7 to 10 mm but you could also ordered a custom 15 mm rib and barrels from 25" (woodcock and skeet), 28" and 29.5" for common game and trap. Most of the actions were plain black non-engraved finished. However, but there are also a few coin finished actions. They even made a highly engraved "luxury" model with side plates, and better grade stocks pretending to copy Browning custom shop standards. Measures in stock lenght drop at comb and heel, are very similar to the B25 in trap versions. As per diagram comparison, parts of CYA and B25 are almost identical, except for the trigger guard and some minor parts in the selector configuration. The real difference comes from the barrels joint which as you said were made chopper-lumb for B25 and a more inexpensive monoblock in the case of CYA. The founders involved in CYA creation, were by that time in Spain, reputed gunsmithers. Although they did not succeed in the long term, they had a previous long experience as gunmakers, they knew well their job, they used good quality steel and their guns are really bullet proof. Certainly the finishing was not as good as a Browning, but their intentions were to make a cheap and reliable spanish superposed based on the B25 action. I believe CYA B25 copy, still remains a rare, sound and interesting gun to own, that could clearly impress you when shooting, but would dramatically enhance if you remove the lacquer and make a nice oil finishing

I’ve watched several TSG videos and love the content. I recently purchased a FNH o/u but am unsure as to where it falls within the superposed timeline. It’s marked exclusively with FNH including the butt pad and without a single Browning stamp. The serial number starts J76 and it has a “roller” forearm release if that helps. Was FNH still able to produce the superposed after Browning switched to Miroku? Any insight would be helpful.

Superposed shotguns were discontinued by Browning in the 1970s because increased costs had made them poor sellers in the American market. It was still possible in the 1970s to order a new Super directly from the FN custom shop. I would speculate this would be a possible explanation and worth investigating with FN.

Could the CYA guns have been made from rough forgings purchased from Miroku/Browning/FN?

250-350 pounds? The Browning Superposed must go for a lot less in Britain than in the U.S. I think it would be the equivalent of a 1,100 pounds or more in the U.S.

Yea even the grade 1 20G superposed go for around $3,000-$4,000 here in the US. I know the 12 gauges are not that expensive but the 20 gauges go for a pretty penny. I have a 1955 model given to me by my great grandmother and it’s lovely.

@@Kh2456 Wonderful gift. Yes, I was quoting the 12 ga prices. As you say the 20s are much more. Regardless they are all great bargains now in my opinion.

Yeah, I was about to chime in that about any Superposed not in dire need of a rebuild will fetch $1000 here. Buyers still get motivated by "Belgian Made".

Nothing against the CYA, well other than that ghastly recoil pad, but the appearance of its wood is nowhere near as fine as the Browning's.

Re: Dove Hunting, great day, wish you were here, 103 degrees, soaking wet. Got with Purdey, hope they get with you, problem is I'm trying to buy a pair of guns not marry their sister. They do things a little differently. All in all I am really thinking a pair of Browning B-15 E's is the way to go (for me) tell me I'm wrong and I'll believe it
