In the modern NBA the essentials I want out of my C is rim protection, defence and rebounding. I think the "need" to have a shooting centre is overstated today. Its nice to have but not necessary for a winning team. When was the last time there was a shooting centre in the NBA finals? The closest you have to this is all Horford and Embiid. Both can shoot from deep but more importantly both are terrific defenders. The reason that the jazz are better than the Twolves is because Gobert's D is more important to winning than Towns' shooting. Also I think it's a big reason why Demarcus Cousins has never played in a post season.
@ssholla92
@ssholla92 6 жыл бұрын
Isn't Towns 3 yrs younger than Gobert and been in the league 2 years less? Give him time. There has been a trend of centers value being diminished over the past years, but it's also corresponded with the lack of quality elite centers coming into the league. There are a number of quality young centers that have recently come into the league. I wouldn't bet against them starting to take over. Jokic, Anthony Davis, KAT, Embiid, and Ayton will be with them soon as well as probably another couple from this draft. I think teams will start to punish those small ball teams with a dominate center that doesn't need to be taken out of the game in the 4th over ft shooting worries, but instead will force teams to match up with them with their 7th or 8th best player being forced into minutes and service.
@mitchellellicott1787
@mitchellellicott1787 6 жыл бұрын
Steve Holler yeah I totally agree with you. Towns has way more upside and can become a defensive anchor in the future but I wasn't really talking about potential I was more referencing what they provide for their teams now. How a team that has its 2nd player that is a C with a tremendous offence skill set has less success than a team where their 2nd best player is a C with very limited offence capabilities. I also agree that the raise of the guards and the decline of bigs has to do with a lack of talent and the talent that is there getting injured i.e. oden, Dwight, bynum, Ming, Bogut. Doesnt take away the importance of having a rim protector and defensive anchor down low.
@jonathanexceus9765
@jonathanexceus9765 6 жыл бұрын
Mitchell Ellicott i think the fact boogie cousins hasnt been in the playoffs is more cuz hes played on the kings his whole career up until now and then got injured cuz the kings are just awful and dont know how to draft either but i do agree with your main point
@ej5417
@ej5417 6 жыл бұрын
deandre is 7’1 and he‘s not even in the league yet, he’s not a rim protector not because he is not athletic (like okafor, or jokic) or because he has a short wingspan (like griffin) the lack of defensive fundamentals and instinct in a young big coming into the league are very common and usually fixed by their coaches in a couple of years after their his rookie year, so there is nothing to worry about his rim protection in the future

Yo, love your channel. Love how you don’t get distracted by hype and very real just identifies the plusses and minuses of players. Taking time on each player. Furthermore on the giveaway, I live in The Netherlands so I don’t know if that is a problem. This summer I’ll be in the US tho so if you prefer not to ship to the Netherlands of o get selected we can make it work as well. So this year I have been an enormous fan of Donovan Mitchell, but since they only sell like jerseys of the lebron james’ en the curry’s of the world, I wasn’t able to buy one up until this point.

Honestly playing soccer would help so much with alot of athletes foot work. People ask wheres the athleticism in soccer and its right there footwork, agility, low center of gravity, and overall mobility are the most important/trained aspects of soccer at any level. Just look at guys like giannis kobe Joel Embiid and Hakeem the footwork and balance on these guys are immaculate.

I feel kinda flattered and dissed. I have been that exact same sweaty button down shirt guy and the guy with the way too big bong. On different occasions. Anyway, I think one of the biggest factors in deciding who you pick in the draft is their injury history respectively their risk of future injury, perhaps even just calculated on the base of their physiognomy. In the history of the draft there were some major failed picks who crushed the teams because they were injured so often, yet were a top 10 pick first round. That becomes misery for years to come when you waste a pick on De'glassknee Spinal Injury the third.

I feel like Ayton can steadily improve his defensive potential while utilizing his gifts in the most effective way possible by watching more and more film.
