It may be hard to find, but there is a galaxy detectable far behind the Pleiades star cluster. Here's how to find it.

Thanks for pointing this galaxy out Pat, I went and looked at one of my M45 pictures and managed to find it, never knew it was there.

Pat thank you 🙏 for doing this video! I’m not an astronomer not even an amateur astronomer . I had a dream about this galaxy whilst still in the military 2006 that I’ve been privately obsessed with. Aliens showed me a star map of it and then I started searching the web and videos for any validation of this galaxy. 🎉today your video has helped me realize this alien abduction/message isn’t a figment of my imagination. FYI they told me that certain humans are going to be transported by them to this galaxy to continue humanity.

lol, he IS human🤣 we all make mistakes Pat! Great outtakes! Excellent video mate! Super intro! Really made me want to watch what’s coming next😀 Didn’t know that galaxy was even there Pat! Over 300million light years away! Does that mean then, if the Dinosaurs ruled the earth for 230 million years, they died out 66 million year’s ago, so that 296 million years, which means the light we see from this galaxy left to make its way to your telescope, before the dinosaurs inhabited earth?? Mind boggling 🤯 You captured it well mate👍 your 130 looks like a bazooker perched at the top of your rather high mount🤣 Great job, happy new year to you and your family and clear skies for 2024👍

Thanks, Simon. As per outtakes, I always have more than enough, sometimes, more than the final edited video ... ha! Lot of math there, but yah, that light is pre-dinosaurs. Your SkyWatch on the same mount looks as impressive. So, are you up to the challange in the 7 sisters? Happy New Year, Simon

If you use the NINA 3-point polar alignment you do not need to see Polaris. And my initial polar alignment I do with the compass on my iPhone - works perfectly.
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy 6 ай бұрын
Good to know. But still, I like to be able to see Polaris. I also discovered that the 3-Point alignment has trouble if the intial PA is off by a few degrees (not minutes or seconds, but degrees)

With NINA, there isn't much issue wit the flip, other than impropper cable managemnet. I managed to snag a few now and then, but I am getting better with the management.

Thanks Pat. Always a pleasure. A question: if your rig has that much clearance (ie. little chance of anything hitting the tripod legs), do you still need to do meridian flips?
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy 7 ай бұрын
Hi Doug, Since it is an equatorial mount, YES, it still must do a meridian flip. Also, the higher I can get it, the better it is to clear those pesky trees (not a whole lot, but some). Thank you for watching my video.

You can see that galaxy (UGC 2838) very well, along with all the other stars and nebulosity of the Pleiades, in a 15-second exposure with your 11-inch and HyperStar! You chose the hard way at f/10.🙂
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy 7 ай бұрын
Hi John, You might be correct but with my experience in doing that leaves much to be desired. If you take the two images, one from f/10 and the other from f/2, and compare, the galaxy from the f/2 image will be much smaller and lack much detail. If you zoom into the target, it will begin to pixelize. However, I will put on the HyperStar-HD lens tonight and shoot the same target and then make the comparison in a follow-up video. Here's wishing clear skies for you.
@johndolby2375
@johndolby2375 7 ай бұрын
Haha! Well, I didn't say it would be pretty! I just said you can see it well. It's all in what our goals are. I don't want to spend 20 hours shooting one target and then 5 more hours processing all the images. I bought the HyperStar to take shorter exposures and at some point I wondered, "How short can I go?" Not everything we do as backyard astronomers has to be an APOD result. Sometimes we just want to see what we can see. And for that, you can't beat f/2. But you do have to lower the bar of your expectations a little (wink-wink). I got my start in astrophotography in the early 1980's, guiding hour-long exposures by hand. I couldn't set up my gear and go to sleep; I stayed out there all night, aiming my scope at each target without Go-To, staring through the guiding eyepiece and keeping my guide stars centered with the hand-control paddle. It still blows my mind that I can shoot an unguided 30-second exposure with an alt-az CPC-1100 and HyperStar from my suburban back yard and get better images than I used to shoot back in the day under Bortle 2 skies on Konica 3200 speed film with a polar-aligned 8-inch f/6 SCT. Short exposures, no guiding, no polar alignment, and no 100-mile drive to get to dark skies -- now that's heavenly!

Hi Richard, I am making an updated video concerning the SSAG. Celestron just released some new software and firmware making the SSAG compatable in NINA and other ASCOM platforms. I am sure you will be pleased with it. I was accurately guiding for 300 seconds the other night resulting in super clean sub-frames.

Thk you for sharing this galaxy in this constellation is there a pulsar or variable star with fast impulses in all my book i just cant find anything thk you in advance if you have that information
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy 7 ай бұрын
Hi David, Since it is a galaxy that I am looking at, and at that incredible distance of 300 million light years, that must be a very large galaxy. All galaxies are believed to contain a black hole in their center, but not pulsars. Pulsars are the results of a massive stellar explosion with the end results of gravitational collapse crushing the atoms to neutrons with super high density. With the collapse of the star, its rotation is conserved and with it shrinking to less than 10% of its former size, the rotation speeds up. X-Rays emitted from the core of the source are projected like a beam. This results in the former star rotation many times per second sending out those bursts of X-rays (and other forms of radiation). The galaxy itself might contain a pulsar, but I wouldn’t know. (Oops, I rambled).

@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy thk you very much for answering my question but if you do aim your scope in the region of atlas-27 tauri in the constelation of pleione You shoud see something interesting i cant because of the equipment that i have zwo 462 with 102 mm explore scientific on a pmc8 mount and of course the weather that we have in the north east of New Brunswick just say the equiment will not rust by being inside all the time but better camera would help a lot in the future .
