Hey Pat! Excellent video mate, great tip on finding Pluto! What is your recommendation to newbies on where to turn to learn how to use the software? Is there a good book or instruction on how to begin as someone with no photography or astrophotography experience? I have a Celestron 8 se and want to start off with planets. Whenever i turn the guiding on for the SSAG, after a bout 10 seconds it just begins slewing the mount off in one direction continuously instead of actually guiding. What software do you use to do remote controlling of your equipment ?
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy

Hi Frank, I use Celestron PWI (CPWI) Telescope Control Software. (This only works with Celestron type mounts.) With this, I can control the mount, the focuser, the power hub and the StarSense Autoguider (SSAG). All of this is connected into a mini Windows computer attached to the rig. I simply use "Remote Desktop" to converse with the rig to my Desktop computer. You can also use Google Remote Connection. I hope this answers your question. The whole part of Nina 3 point at 2:38 is actually best practice. I was never told, most people aren’t aware of where the best place to point your scope is when doing polar alignment with Nina 3 point. I had issues with it for a while but one of the developers had an image on where is best to point your scope. Not at Polaris(this is actually really bad) anywhere within East and West relative to Polaris is best. Going south worsens it

Incredible image, fantastic detail. HyperStar sure brings a new dimension to imaging with big scopes. Do you think you'll be re-configuring your setup depending on the target you'll be wanting to shoot, or will you leave the HyperStar on and run through the gamut of wide-field targets before switching out the HyperStar for longer focal length imaging - i.e. how much of a pain is it to switch setups?
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy 20 күн бұрын
I will continue to use the scope with the different f/ratios ... f/10, f/7, and f/2. It's quite easy to change it to the desired focal length. The most difficult part is in balancing the scope. At 11", there is plenty of weight to push or pull along the dove plates. I would say it takes 10 to 15 minutes to switch from one to the other. Clear Skies

I really appreciate your video! I have a 9.25 Edge on a CGX-L and had struggled to make the SSAG work with NINA until I came across a Celestron video demonstrating SSAG with NINA, and it basically says to build your sequence without plate solving and to let the SSAG handle it along with the meridian flip. I will try your way tonight and will let you know how that goes. Loved the video!
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy 21 күн бұрын
Hi Victor, I found that turning off the SSAG options to plate solve and meridian flip works better for me. I would rather let NINA do it. Plus, in the advanced sequencer, there is an option to monitor if the target has drifted off the center. If it has, then NINA will recenter it. However, you can still use SSAG to plate solve and flip, and it does a good job at it, but I think NINA does it better Clear Skies

Hi Pat, I am building a rig to use from inside the house using NINA. To simplify everything was thinking that I won't need a USB Hub to connect everything on the scope if the WiFi Micro PC I use has 5 USB ports. Do you think that will work?
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy 21 күн бұрын
Well, you will still need to connect your camera, guidescope, and other accessories, such as a focuser to the mini-computer at the rig. If the mini-computer has enough ports, then you won't need a hub. Also, if your mount has WiFi, you can connect to it that way, otherwise you will need another USB port to connect it. I have considered Hyperstar or RASA scopes. Borrowed it for 2-3 weeks to try. I am glad I did. System is almost awful, just as Edge itself, which I own. Now, why I have such negative opinions about these pair. These scopes show muted color of stars and muted color of any DSO. For example, let’s look at lagoon nebula. It should have beautiful star cluster consisting from blue and red-orange stars, lagoon itself should be sapphire color. Around lagoon orange color transiting into reddish-brown, which slowly disappears into black space. It is heavenly lagoon! Right? Celestron with its creations show none of these. Instead, we have white stars, lateral chromatism , forced over processing every picture, blotting stars, diffused to unpleasant shape, etc. I could probably be forever delusional that it is great-good enough. But, I happened to bought Tak Epsilon and it just broke to pieces all delusions. After first picture, it was clear. Sheeit! I have just been waisting my time with Celestron creations.

Timing is everything, Doug ... Ha. You're going to love it. If you have the option to get the hood, or if you already have one, it makes it much easier in making flat-frames. Enjoy your new addition. Let us all know when you buy it so we'll know where all the clouds will be within a hundred miles of your location. Again, Ha. Clear skies.
