This time we take a look at a hacker known as Pompompurin and how over the course of a thorough federal investigation and seizure he was identified and captured, what came next was him violating the conditions of his bail and also a new surprising charge when the FBI searched his hard drives. I wanna clarify that while the actions of Pompompurin against the US Gov definitely added interest to his capture, I didn't mention in the video is that the reasoning for his capture was actually incredibly POOR OPSEC. The defs had access to IP records showing his access to RaidForums that were seized from the site in 2002, many of those IPs connected him to his ISP Verizon at the time. Pom had also sent his name and clearnet email address in a private chat to the owner of Raid forums at the time. The Feds acquired all the information they needed from his Gmail account as well as a subpoena to relevant crypto exchanges with his suspected wallet information at hand. I know it is not in the US but could you cover the British Library hacker? It is barely covered and seems suspiciously quiet but such a huge thing and is costing them a fortune to fix (40% of their reserves, which for a public library is insane). I know even people overseas who are upset about this and wondering what is going on and why the secrecy until now, as this happened in October time too. This is like £16.4m and they just kept quiet for months and it seems like it'll be a good year or so until they are up and running again, which is awful for students and others relying on them. I swear there much be more to it?

Hey, my local library app has been totally malfunctioning; the librarian I spoke to said that the entire online catalogue is down, and to totally delete the app and just come in person. I don't think it was a hacker, but I know there is tons of cyber warfare happening everywhere. For Context, I'm in the US.

@@tashajoykin5192 that's very weird! But this is just an insane thing though, especially the lack of coverage. See this though is the central library for the UK. This is the main base, this holds documents and even items going back to Roman times. People from all over the world travel just to visit it and consult things there. You have to be scanned and checked in, only certain people can consult certain things etc. So the attack was massive. But they seem to be drip-feeding information to the public, despite so many needing to know (like us students) and it still being a public institution.

From my understanding, being on that list doesn't mean that people knew what he was doing. Epstein was really wealthy so it's no surprise he hung out with other wealthy people. Maybe they DID know what was going on, but we cant really flat our say it without evidence

The purpose of things like that is so they can add charges in the hopes you will be tempted to abuse the limited freedoms you are given. if you ban a hacker from the PC they cant do anything. A single count distributing/receiving? (26 files). Usually when you hear this stuff it's GBs worth of illegal archives. I almost wonder if he forgot/neglected to delete a few pics or something. The FBI could have simply made it up. The US legal system has a horrid history of falsified evidence, fake criminal charges, and forced plea deals. The FBI itself was created to harass and threaten civil rights leaders; and the US justice system has an even worse history of corruption. It's just as likely that they added that charge on so that the overall charges are more damning and that fighting it in court would be potentially damaging. Without the CP charge, his crimes arent too damning in the eyes of most people and the guy might try to fight it in court. With this tacked on charge, his best option is to just do what he is told. Fighting the charge, even if its complete bullshit, is far more dangerous then accepting a plea deal. It doesn't matter what is true, only what you can "prove" in court. The FBI has full access to his machine, and he doesn't.

Muta didn't really say anything, because it should be rather obvious, but for anyone wondering what does "glowies" mean, it's a nickname for feds. Because they set up honeypots and lurk around the dark to find criminals. You may know the bug catcher thing, which many may call a honeypot. It glows, and the light attracts the bugs, coming to it. The device then kills the bugs with electricity, there's a metal mesh that's powered with a high enough voltage to kill a bug. This is what I believe the term "glowie" comes from.

I didn't know him personally but he was a grade or two above me as I remember. I know about him getting raided bc my mom knew his mom lols a whileee ago. But I'd see him usually be quiet maybe a friend or two but relatively known to be smart. The weird thing is his circle of friends were weird from my view and they'd always talk about hacking as so ive heard from a friend that talked to his circle, so it seems he has been doing it for a while.
