This light is the best EDC Flashlight I've found. It's ridiculously bright, it's got a decent interface, it's small, and it's rechargeable with a boring old Micro-USB cable. Put simply, it's a very bright little gem.

a flashlight 'nut' myself, this is my absolute FAVORITE light out of the entire collection. The rechargeable usb is so handy! small, easy to use, great for edc! very bright for the size. another great video!

I have had this light since it was first released. The build quality of the UC35 is amazing even for the already high standards of Fenix. Waterproof even with the micro USB flap open is awesome! It will charge any 18650 you can stuff into it. The heat sinking on the UC35 is better than on the PD35 due to all the extra metal behind the head where the micro USB port is. Look closely and note how Fenix designed in sloping thick cooling fins around the micro USB portion of the light. Usual nice crisp Fenix tail switch. Usual dead on manufacturer output specs. The ugly-its pretty long for the PD35 class of lights and the GITD side switch needs to be charged to glow...otherwise it is actually a stone cold classic

I have a Gen 1 UC35, like yours, that I carry with me everywhere. It's a GREAT flashlight. I love that it has a USB charging port. No charging cradle required. I won't carry a rechargeable flashlight that requires me to remove the batteries, just won't do it. I also carry a Fenix U12, that uses AA batts. The two work very well together. If I'm out at night for an extended period, I carry a bag of AAs & use my U12 as much as possible and use my UC35 when I need to "light up the world". Now for the ugly: 1) My charging port SUCKS. The USB port has a loose fit and it's a real PITA to get the light to charge. After plugging it in & turning it on to charge, the light generally goes green for a few seconds, then the flashlight turns on & I have to screw with the cable. (BTW- I don't recommend leaving the light unattended when charging, it could be dangerous.) 2) The blasted mode button is almost impossible to find by touch, which means I have to reflect the light off my hand to find the stupid thing. Very bad design. That being said, I love my UC35 & may purchase a Gen 2 at some point

My UC35 was stolen :( someday I'll buy another. My first high quality light and I loved it. I used it at my job as a vehicle inspector and just the third brightness setting lit up an engine bay beautifully. And for those who like their EDC gear to be helpful in self defense scenarios, the "turbo" mode is more than bright enough to blind someone enough to buy you some time to do whatever you need to do to fight or get away. I believe that this is a great light for just about anyone.

Being perhaps as geeky about lights as you are about knives, I can find some ugly here: * The beam itself. It doesn't look that way on your camera, but the UC35 typically has a bluish cool white tint with pretty poor color rendering. Great color rendering is hard to come by on major-brand lights, but neutral white tint, which looks closer to sunlight is getting reasonably common. * The low mode isn't very low. You'd be surprised at how nice it is to have a mode under a lumen in absolute darkness. * There's no way to go directly to low or high from off; you can only start in the last-used mode. * There's a timed stepdown on high. Most newer lights of this caliber use a temperature sensor and only reduce output if they're overheating. That's not to say the UC35 is a bad light. It's pretty good, and absolutely awesome in comparison to what you'll find in most retail stores. It's not as good, however as a Thrunite Neutron 2C or TC12. Using an external charger opens up more options, like the very pocketable Zebralight SC63w using the same 18650 battery. Also, your TK15 can use the UC35's 18650 battery, or any other 18650 battery. It doesn't have internal charging of course, but you can still cut your operating costs by using that as the main battery. Most 18650s also have more capacity than two CR123s.

I noticed both this video and this comment are a bit old by now. What's your favorite USB-rechargeable flashlight these days?

Oh, did you say the approximate burn time you get on a full charge for this flashlight? I missed it, if you did. Thanks.

I've got the PD35, same light, but uses rechargeable batteries. Have 2 batteries and a charger. Got the whole kit for $80. Charges both batteries in 2 hours.

Cr 123 are A bit expensive but I been able to find them in Walmart and or Walgreens but the busnell pro 400 lumens well you can guess it's brightness it runs 400lumes for 3hours and it runs 51 lums. For 21 hours and it's got a high strobe 400lumes for. 4. Hours and it's tacticool but once you get it feels ttacticool in way that it's ment to appeal as a grippy light and is it grippy as ever when you first get it

Thank you for your informative videos. Do you know if there is a USB rechargeable flashlight that will also run on one AA? Thank You

Jeff Kur yeah my thoughts exactly. 18650 batteries are not super rare but they're not everywhere either. On the other hand AA NIMH batteries are literally sold by every corner hardware store. Plus they're smaller so it means smaller flashlights. I hope flashlight makers realize there's huge appeal in an LED USB-rechargeable flashlight that runs on one AA NIMH battery.

I love all the technology that goes into flashlights these days. Sadly its all wasted on me. I have two thirty year old flashlights that still keep working. One is military issue angle head flashlight and the other is 6 D Cell Mag. My one change that i did make recently is that I converted them both to LED bulbs. All the functionality that I need is just for my flashlights to turn on and off...... Thats it. ......No strobe or pulse, no SOS, no blue tooth or wireless re charge, no flash drive, no signaling low flying aircraft......... just on and off. More power to all the people that love all the high tech and I love watching Nick do the reviews, but Ill just stick to my old stuff.

Nick, Greatly enjoy your videos on knives and flashlights. I bought the UC35 after seeing your video. Like the light except for one thing: the 960 level output seems to be only nominally brighter than the 480 level after using the light for not a long period. I still haven't had the red light come on to indicate a low battery. I'm disappointed that I've got a flashlight that's basically a 500 lumen light on the top level. Has this been your experience?
@NickShabazz7 жыл бұрын
+Steve Byrne Many lights dim the turbo output after 5 minutes to avoid melting down. Maybe that's what you're seeing? If you need more long term power, maybe the SX25L3?
@ZakWilson7 жыл бұрын
Maximum output is limited by battery voltage in most lights like this. A fully charged battery will have higher output than a partially discharged battery. There's also a timed stepdown on the UC35. Some lights, such as all Zebralight models and those from Armytek that advertise "constant brightness" have a boost converter in the driver to compensate for the voltage drop. These will have full brightness unless the battery is near-dead, however, they do use a thermal sensor to reduce output in the event of overheating, and any small light making 1000 lumens or so will overheat in warm, still air after some time.

Two reasons I dislike strike bezels: they tear up bags and pockets if they rub against the fabric and good luck defending yourself in court if you must use it as a kubotan. You obviously got that light to hurt somebody with it because it has a sharp, pointy end. I'd rather avoid the drama.
@johndesper94256 жыл бұрын
Obviously it's more important to actually fucking defend yourself than worry like a paranoid soyboy about having to explain yourself to court.

The disorienting light is enough actually, I've used an Armytek Wizard and just boxed the fuck out of a guy who attacked my friend, he had a brick. Imagine being blind and have an amateur golden gloves boxer go to town on your face.

Best thing flash lights are for. Go out in the middle of a filed while it's dark and get your friends to dance. While you shine the touch on them. It's better if they are girls.
