DOING THE MEDITATION TECHNIQUE vs REFLECTING ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Those are mutually exclusive.
The nature of the fetter of "Virtue and Duty" (silabbataparamasa) comes down to doing something on account of one's practice without directly knowing how, where, and if it pertains to Dhamma and to what extent.

Wonderful Dhamma. I practiced various meditation techniques in the past with that wrong view that they will bring about magical results. Despite finding it illogical. Viewing five clinging aggregates as dukkha, practise to directly see it, to abandon its cause, to experience cessation and develop the path should be the way.

Any moment there is idea or thinking arise, greed hate delusion are in it. knowledge of what is panna in the pratice is misunderstood by many meditation. practitioners. Right view arise when he know what is rightly know the meaning of panna. More discussion more idea and result more views. Panna is as the BUDDHA say SEEING THINGS AS IT REALLY Are In vipassana practice there are samatha tools in it ad well as panna tools. Many misunderstood that vipassana does not arise calmness/samadhi, they are wrong.

He’s right, but only about %97 of the time. If one pays attention for a sustained period of time, long enough for the mind to cease its normal, habitual patterns, then you will have a special experience, the experience of direct knowledge. This is what happened when Charles Darwin sat on the Galápagos Islands watching the various plants and animals long enough for centuries of Christian cosmology to cease coloring his perception, his preconceptions dropped and he directly knew this dependent origination of species, which he called evolution. This same process can be seen within when the mind is observed consciously from a place of satisfaction, not wanting anything, happily looking. But I’m sure Ajahn Nyanamoli knows he can’t speak for all of humanity even if he sounds like he is

Bhante. If one should aim to maintain Samadhi/mindfulness regardless of external circumstances where does seclusion fit in, in all this? Maybe seclusion is necessary first in order to "develop" that Samadhi and once developed, one can get out of seclusion and live surrounded by other people? Thank you very much.

Seclusion fits in being able to grasp the "sign of your mind" (cittanimitta), which is necessary for the Right view. Samadhi will be the result of that. However, even then, company will always be in the way of proper composure.
@TomGovernale

“…company will always be in the way of proper composure.” Having heard this in other talks and realizing the responsibilities I fully accept today require me to maintain engagement with others. In past I would feel disadvantaged and discouraged knowing the limitations surrounding lay practice. Perhaps my situation will change, but that is of no concern to me right now. I was recently gifted with the insight of the various contexts at play and the inclination of my mind many years ago, and the specific actions I took or did not take that burdened me with the responsibilities I accept today. What was eye-opening about this new perspective was the actions I previously attributed to creating the circumstances I face today, were actually the content (or only options available to me at the time) as a result of the context I was operating from. The actions that were seemingly inconsequential at the time, I now see as primary, so to speak. Either way, I can practice today from where I am, with a sense of liberation from what I experienced as limitation. I welcome feedback on my views and usage of terms and so on.

What specifically is meant by "restraining the senses"? Is it the practice of abandoning the desire and aversion?
@theinngu5560

Not going towards pleasant sights, sounds, tastes, smells, touch and mind objects (eg rolling in fantasies, memories etc ) out of craving …not delighting in the pleasant sense objects and hence wanting to hold into them ….moderation in eating and keeping precepts.

We might, although I think the sutta (SN 55:40) is quite clear. Its about how a noble disciple can neglect the practice of mindful-alertness due to the fact that he has attained safety.

@@ThaniyoThero Thanks Bhante. but is it possible for noble disciple who knows impermanence and non self to see things as solid and hence crave for it to enjoy it? is it relevant to the nandiya sutta? Meditation objection is to weaken the kelisa by samadhi and then rooted it out with panna(knowledge to aniccha, dukkha, anatha) The four foundation are to be the main subject to comprehen as it arise in the mind and body. Practitioners must know clearly what is the 4 foundation of mindfulness mean and clearly acknoledge and aware of it while practicing meditation. To exactly know Mind object has arisen (Sangkara ) and the concious of knowing it. Sangkara lead to body and arise feeling sensation (vedana) has arisen and if not eradicate it will return the vedana back to the mind and manifest it further. By seeing the cause of arisen ignorance (sangkara) that leads to sanna till vedana, one immediate cut it from continue growing that lead to karma formation. By preventing new karma formation at every moment in your meditation practice, one will suddenly extinguish the flame of birth when the panna that cut hindrances(kelisa) are fully develop. When one understood the connection of the link between mind, mind object, body and feeling. Then one will progress in the vipassana meditation till one become Sotopanna, Sakadagami, Anagami Arahat. Enlightment will be fully understood and all speculative conventional idea disappeared completely.

When you should be able do meditate under all circumstances, why then is there a need for seclusion in higher practice? I see how both have reasons for themselve, but they seem to contradict each other. Shouldn't you be able ( practicing rightly ) to obtain arahantship, while being surrounded by the lay life? Why is there a need to abandon your circumstances, when you should be able to practice regardless of them?

isn't the need to adhere to virtue or maintain it wrong view too? That virtue is also wrong view?
@DekutreeRipoff504
@DekutreeRipoff504 2 жыл бұрын
From my understanding, developing virtue through sense restraint and keeping the precepts, allows you to develop right view. You'll be able to see why you should act in that way if you're contemplating your actions and not just going through the motions.

Buddhists who meditate do not do so in a vacuum without any regard to the other path factors or teachings. The beginning premise is why purely secular meditation will not result in enlightenment, and should not be used as a blanket invalidation of contemporary Buddhist meditation practices.
