The First Doctor said to Ian that the greatest discoveries were sometimes made by looking at the littlest things. The second doctor says he left the Time Lords so that he could explore the wonders of the universe and be involved with the various peoples. The Third Doctor remarked that the shortest distance between two point may indeed be a straight line but that wasn't the most interesting. The Fourth Doctor got very exited once and shouted "Look! Rocks!". And now The Fifth Doctor carries it on.

I always assumed the cybermen just had heavily repressed empotions to the point where complete failure and defeat would anger them very slightly rather than feeling no anger at all. But thats just my idea.

I’ve heard this line from Peter's Doctor being criticized as trite. I just can’t understand that. I think it’s one of the more beautiful and powerful lines in the whole series. It sums up The Doctor's romanticism succinctly.

David Banks , the most badassest actor to have ever played a cyborg. We need this design back.Or Lee Sullivan's Mark 8. They had emotions. The still were Mondasians deep inside. They just didn't show them . In my opinion they were good guys , fearing the extinction of their race and thus avoiding potential threats by destroying them. I support them. Because if you think a, we are in the same situation , only a bit luckier.

Fifth Doctor- One of my favorite Doctor's. First episode I watched was Unearthy Child with William Hartnell, but I watched the fifth Doctor's run after that. I know Tom Baker is considered the best Doctor, but to me every actor was the best Doctor in their own right. Some I happen to like more than others. I haven't seen any of the 2nd doctor, but I know I like 6 the least out of all the Doctors so far. 11 is my 2nd favorite following, 8.

@rojblake82 admittedly the black and white stories have much more all rounded & better writing...in both story terms and in entertainment, but this episode for me is the pinnacle of the emotionless cybermen; and has some of the best moments in the classic series...i.e the sacrifice of Adric, which is superb.

This vsn had a moving silver jaw behind their faceplate. An echo of their former humanoid selves, like the human hands of the 1st gen.Cybermen. The original Cybermen were always Cyborgs. Part human/part machine. They still had the core of the humanoid body, but all the organs had been replaced by machine parts, & their brains were augmented. That's what I didn't like about the Cybusmen in the new series.Their conversion just threw away the entire human body & transplated the brain to a robot.

But, I've only seen the Caves of Andronazi and Castrovalva (Which was definitely better), so please correct me if you can.

my god, if I see another fucking comment on which cybermen are better..... could I remind those present that the cybermen from the original series and the cybermen from the current one have DIFFERENT ORIGINS. Accept them as different cybermen, like you accept different Doctors. Now that that's out of the way, the newer ones are far better aesthetically, more imposing and terrifying(honestly the old ones made me laugh as a kid). The older ones had better dialogue and maybe were a bit smarter

"to do essentials" That's just it. Motivation is emotion based. Zero emotion means you don't give a damn about really anything, and wouldyou'd be pretty much be motionless. NOTHING is categorized as "essential" if you don't have emotion to sort that out. Psychology 101. The cybermen creed is a logical fallacy. Hell they're more stoic than emotionless

I get that there are points to be made about emotions and friendship- but what in the hell was he thinking here, trying to talk a Cyberman into appreciating emotions? And the shock on his face when Tegan is threatened, as if it isn’t an obvious move for the Cybermen to make? I really don’t get what the writers were thinking with Five. He had some great stories- but at times it’s as if he’s forgotten all his years of experience. It’s understandable the First Doctor being perplexed and affronted by the lack of emotion when he encounters them for the first time… but what in the hell is Five thinking here? Has he forgotten everything? As if this approach was some kind of valid strategy in the face of emotionless cyborgs…
@DomWeasel Жыл бұрын
Four reasoned he didn't have the right to destroy the Daleks when they exist solely to destroy. Ten would offer Dalek Caan 'compassion' despite him having just committed genocide. If the Doctor began using the logic of their years, there wouldn't be a story to tell. They would just kill every hostile force in their path.
@EzraYalanBenjamin Жыл бұрын
@@DomWeasel I suppose that’s true. I have to say I’d like to see him use that logic sometimes though. There’s some stories I’m just thinking- what the hell are you doing? Get on with it! Lol.
@DomWeasel Жыл бұрын
@@EzraYalanBenjamin The show has been around so long that you do often find yourself thinking 'You faced this before and tried to find a peaceful solution; how did that work out? Everyone died didn't they?' That is the main issue with the character. They can't really develop. They have different quirks per regeneration but they can never really progress. They always have to be the same optimistic hero rather than a cynic jaded by centuries of experience.
@EzraYalanBenjamin Жыл бұрын
@@DomWeasel aye. I suppose it wasn’t too bad during the classic series because- a couple of hints to the contrary aside- it’s obvious that he’s just another Time Lord renegade and most other Time Lords see him as having great potential but being rather foolish and a bit of an underachiever. With the revived series, they started having people see him as a “lonely God” and even his own people seem to regard him with awe (or fear) sometimes. So, you tend to expect more only to find out he’s the same optimistic fool he always has been. Only Twelve for some of his first season and occasionally Eleven seem to break that mold, but it never lasts because “character development” always undoes that evolution and returns him back to being an idiot. It’s one of the big flaws of the show that everybody else seems to love.
@DomWeasel Жыл бұрын
@@EzraYalanBenjamin Don't even get me started on the New Series transformation of the Doctor from one extraordinary person in a big universe to space-wizard (complete with magic wand)/God amongst insects/most important living thing in the universe.
