These are some very rare children's computer animations made by a woman calling herself Nanny Lynn. My friend rescued this from obscurity when they were brought into a Michigan video duplication place she was working at in roughly 1997. She said the original order was made to duplicate in PAL format. She made some extra copies and would leave them randomly at parties... I bootlegged the hell out of it throughout the late 90's on VHS and early 2000's through my old DVD co. Meatwood Meatia, and got em out through my Hanson Records noise distro. Gave a copy to Sam at 5MinutesToLive who also spread it... Jacob Ciocci at Paper Rad considers it a big influence on his work...he uploaded one of the stories to youtube years ago...but here is the full 62 minutes of eye bleeding confusing children's entertainment for you all to see. If anyone knows the real Nanny Lynn who made these, please put me in touch!

It sounds like she's narrating the footage on the spot all in one sitting. No wonder she starts to sound like she's unravelling, she must be tired.

yeah it feels like there's hardly any cuts if any at all, the ones already in there kinda just feel like they werent supposed to happen. At the very least a majority of this video was definitely done in one take and who knows how many times she had to start over when her narrating and the animations were too outta sync! Seems like there wasn't even a script either, just the story that she created, animations, and improv narrating that stitched them together.
@Snotlingfondler
@Snotlingfondler 3 жыл бұрын
@@iAmMsCrap Yeah I agree, seems like she is literally just describing what is happening on the spot relying on her prior knowledge of the animation itself. I also feel like the characters were supposed to have actual dialogue by the way their lips move, like they had specific things to say, not just be narrated over.

@@Snotlingfondler that’s exactly what I thought, like she had some idea of the story but was mostly improvising while watching the animation play. Also, 1:00:10 is good evidence of minimal editing/takes, because she obviously holds a sneeze back and just moves on. There are a few times I noticed where it seems like she just skips over some ideas/dialog because she’s running behind

When you find out the real story behind this tape, all the stories become suddenly heartwarming. She's literally making a video with Amiga graphics and voiceover all about the interests of her grandchildren. The boy was into dinosaurs, the girl princesses. Combine them for the first story. The kiddos were also into current events. When this was made in the early 90s, the Bosnian War was on. So the Story of Srebrenica makes a bit more sense with that information... I emphasize a BIT. It has overtones of the kids laying the foundation work of the tale and Nanny Lynn cleaning it up a bit and making it a bit easier to follow. And again, I emphasize a BIT. Both kids were also into science, and thus, Bob the Blob. The story is nonsensical (well, they all are but this one especially so) and sounds exactly how it would if a kid made it up as they went along... or especially TWO kids with slightly differing interests due to different genders and personalities. Nanny Lynn is a Sweet Soul who just wanted to make a nice tape for her grandkids. Yes it looks insane now, but in the early 90s I would have flipped my lid if my grandmother made a real video tape with MY stories on it! Three Cheers for Nanny Lynn! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! I hope she's still alive... she is/was certainly a model Grandmother!

People have really hyped this up as something creepy, but honestly this just seems like a personal project for either a class, a daycare, or somebody's own kids. Sure, it's weird, but people act like it's sinister or macabre just because it's a weird VHS lol. I think the VHS format can make people think of things as being supremely creepy when they would otherwise just be slightly odd.

She made her own stories and had them animated, quite creative I'll admit. It was quite uncommon in the 80s-90s for plenty of people made their own custom VHS tapes then sell 'em for a quick buck. I remember owning a few odd bad quality VHS tapes with strange drawn covers from thrift stores which had 3-5 cartoons from the "golden era" when they were made public domain. As a kid, I remember watching one vhs tape with "christmas cartoons" and they were all pretty tragic involving sad snowmen melting when the spring arrives and cute cartoon polar bears having fun then having to avoid being shot by hunters, lmao. Though if you were a kid watching something like this, you will have one of those days bringing up something that sounded like a fever dream once you were older. It certainly is a unique one.

It's interesting to me, having grown up in the 70s, how much attitudes about certain things have changed. If this was made now, it'd be considered too surreal, dark and depressing for kids. This sort of thing was a lot more 'normal' in the 70s and 80s. Not saying this stuff isn't weird...it certainly is...but things were a lot less sugar-coated back then.

We get raised on fairy tales about old women being shoved in to ovens, wolves eating and impersonating grandmas, people smashing their head open, and other such things, then we freak out over this. Honestly, if not accompanied by the strange animation, and it was just a story book or something, I don't think people would find it that strange. Try imagining what something like Hansel and Gretel would look like with this animation, it would look creepy as hell.

Rated TV MA this is not an education program this is a program only for adults
@herobrine6048
@herobrine6048 3 жыл бұрын
@@alanadame1653 This doesn't qualify as TV-MA, I would give this show a rating of TV-PG. After all this show is technically educational and I may say that it seems a little weird nowadays, but back when it was created, it most likely was considered normal. Plus, it has no elements of a TV-MA show. TV Parental Guidelines: TV-PG: This program contains material that parents may find unsuitable for younger children. Parental guidance is recommended. Programs rated TV-PG may contain some material that parents or guardians may find inappropriate for younger children. Programs assigned a TV-PG rating may include some inappropriate language, very little sexual content, suggestive dialogue, and/or mild violence. ------- TV-MA: This program is intended to be viewed by mature, adult audiences and may be unsuitable for children under 17. Contains content that is unsuitable for children. This rating was originally TV-M prior to the announced revisions to the rating system in August 1997 but was changed due to a trademark dispute and in order to remove confusion with the Entertainment Software Rating Board's (ESRB) "M for Mature" rating for video games. This rating is used by broadcast networks or local television stations due to FCC restrictions on program content, although it is commonly applied to television programs featured on certain cable channels (basic and premium networks) and streaming networks for both mainstream and softcore programs. Programs with this rating may include crude indecent language, explicit sexual activity and graphic violence. -------------------------------------------------------------- For more info on TV Parental Guidelines go to en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Parental_Guidelines

That's the strangest part.. Srebrenica.. is a city, where thousands were killed and tortured. They forcibly uprooted some 70,000 Bosniaks from their homes and systematically massacred at least 3,166 Bosniaks (documented deaths) - This story is based on something real. Did this woman hear stories of children who were left alone in nature? Just a positive creative spin on tragedy? Its very strange. I know they are a bit "creepy" but I enjoy this woman's stories and her voice.

@YTStoleMyUsername
@YTStoleMyUsername 2 жыл бұрын
She did the animation and the story herself, she wrote a very detailed comment on another KZfaq video that covered this story. I think maybe the reason for the breaks is she may have been trying to keep up with reading the script and watch the animation at the same time. Like the other person said it may have been audio cut and edited together poorly as well. She said she made this for her first two grandsons because they loved dinosaurs and wanted to get all the dinosaur names pronounced correctly. The scientist at the end is sorta based on her father if I remember. He's like a microbiologist or something that has worked on COVID recently. So some of the characters are based on her family members. She didn't really explain why it's weird, but a lot of fairy tales are dark and weird when you really think about it. The story was so detailed it seemed credible to me, she explained all the technical details of how she did the animation. But yeah if you were making up a bed time story for your kids this would still be a weird direction to go lol

This is normal for the decade. I remember being 10-12 early 90s we had a scary vhs on Alice in wonderland. Terrible quality and it was deranged version and it was in Spanish .we didn’t even speak Spanish. Just something someone gave us. I bet there’s a ton of old VHS movies back in the day that are just bad quality and would be considered creepy today.

My best guess would be that these are stories written by children....either individual children or some type of collaborative class project. They then had their stories animated and narrated (probably by a teacher). When I was in grade school we did similar projects where we’d write a silly story as a class building off each other’s ideas and the stories were (at least) as bizarre as these. We never had them turned into a film but we once acted our story out as a play. If my intuition is right about this, the Nanny Lynn film seems far less weird and was probably a really fun idea for the kids.
@aquamidideluxe5079
@aquamidideluxe5079 3 жыл бұрын
The animator came forward. It was an old woman (now 77) named Lynn who made these for her grandkids that liked dinosaurs, princesses, animals, science, and "the exotic." While it wasn't made by kids, it was specifically informed by the interests of a few children, explaining the somewhat unorthodox theming.

That backgound music is absolutely from a 90s Yamaha keyboard and drum machine. I made my first beats on my older brother's Yamaha PSR1700, and Yamaha RY8 drum machine in 1999, when I was 9. Had the same exact guitar, bass, strings, and drums. That snare is unmistakably from a yamaha. I still have a sample of that snare. I might even have one of my old beats uploaded on my channel lmao. Wish my bro never got rid of it. It only had about 100 instruments, and 3 or 4 drum kits.

These all feel like religious allegories for some form of gnosticism. Princess Emiluma is a missionary. She travels to a faraway land to preach to the natives (dinosaurs) about Heaven (one day you'll all evolve to have feathers). They all want the riches of Heaven immediately, but due to various conflicts inequality develops. They become discontent and complain about the unfairness of Emiluma's system, but she then preaches humility and baptises them so they are all equal in the eyes of the Lord (washes off all the feathers). The feathers are an allegory for original sin, they come from gaining the fruit of Heaven before it is earned. Srebrenica is about judgement and the end of days. She starts off lost, but by following the guidance of the prophets (dream dinosaurs) she is returned home. She then tries to spread the message to others so that they too may be saved, but they ignore her message and continue to fight and live in the moment. When the day of judgement comes (the meteor) they are all lost in darkness. The lone dinosaur at the end shows the original Christian interpretation of hell; they are condemned to wander the Earth alone and forsaken. Bob the Blob seems to be an allegory for reincarnation, similar to the Buddhist view on rebirth. Initially he is trapped in an endless cycle of creation and destruction. Because he lives life without spiritual concern, he is continuously destroyed by his actions. It is only when attention to ending this cycle is given that he is freed and assumes a new, eternal form (bob cat).

It feels improvised but I can't figure out how. Either they had the recordings of their friend reading her odd children's books and made animation to go along with the story, or they had a series of odd animatics they made messing around with an early animation program and then created a script to give it a sense of narrative.

And the background music in the first part was 100% made on a 1990s Yamaha Keyboard, and possibly with a Yamaha drum machine. I started making beats as a kid in 99, on my brother's yamaha keyboard and drum machine. It had the exact same guitar, bass, strings, and drums. Yamaha PSR1700, and RY8 drum machine. The snare drum, alone, is unmistakably 90s yamaha. I even still have a sample of that snare, and the guitar. Back then, keyboards had certain traits, limited sounds, drum kits, and tracks to record. Fruity loops in 2003 changed everything lol

To me, it sounds like these stories were written by kids. Edit: Here's a theory. A class of grade school children were told to write stories with some educational value (hence each one has a couple of random facts thrown in haphazardly,) and three were chosen to be animated into a video as an interactive project. My school used to do big, school-wide projects like this every once in a while. The narrator sounds more like a teacher (or dare I say, a nanny??) than a professional voice actress. I doubt it was animated by kids, but I wouldn't be surprised if they provided some of the artwork. It would also explain why it's so obscure. Just a possibility!
