The presence of Uncle Sam is a reference to "United States Blues" (a song they also performed quite a bit). The bear is likely a reference to the "Jerry Bears" that are associated with the band (thought they don't really look anything like the boss...). Edit: Just noticed that the bear is riding a giant blunt during the "Zeus" Phase. This probably references one of the Dead's New Years Eve shows (I think at Winterland auditorium) where they had an "actor" dressed up as father time riding a giant mary jane cigar. Heyo! Great challenge video! At 4:30, the moon is from the movie A Trip to the Moon. It is actually public domain! It was made by a man named Georges Méliès, a genius of the time. Many of his movies are lost because they were burnt into shoe heels for the war. His wife and him spent days painting each bit of film to make their movies in color. There’s a fictional book inspired by his story called “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.” It’s a beautiful story with pen drawn pictures, creative formatting, and a plot that’s stuck with me for over ten years. It seems long, but its length is due to the many pages of pictures and strange formatting at times. I’d highly recommend it to any art, film, or history lovers.

Hi Pogobro! I have a cuphead theory. In the DLC secret level we see the devils skeleton, the angel and devil exit his skull and start to attack. The devil represents...the devil, but the angel represents chef saltbaker. My theory is the devil and chef saltbaker aren't living things and the devil( from secret boss), makes them evil, but the good one: the angel, makes them good, so the devil in the first game was in the state of being bad, just for a very long time, which means he could have been good sometimes, and the warriors from the astral plane tried to the destroy the angel and devil to stop this chaos. In the chef saltbaker boss fight you see him put a pink mushroom in his head while entering phase 2. Notice how the mushroom is pink, pink means parryable. You also see his eyes turn pink while entering phase 2. In inkwell isle 1-3 there are mausoleums, and you need to fend off PINK ghosts, the ghosts are evil, which represents the devil but the mushroom also makes things good, in cuphead there are parryable things that don't try to kill you, sure, the pink spikeballs in run 'n guns can kill you, but it doesn't mean they try to. Every parryable, evil, and good thing is from this mushroom, so the mushroom was what the astral warriors tried to destroy. But the pink mushroom isn't the true evil behind this, but the person who made it. I think an evil being from the astral plane is that he made the mushroom and the other parryables to destroy all beings that weren't on his side, but something made them have a good side. This angered him, so he created a reality, a place where living things thrive, and found a random family, which would be Cuphead and Mugman. He then spread anger around inkwell isle. He then created two guides for him: the devil and chef saltbaker. The devil was used for trying to kill immediately, and chef saltbaker to lure people in a trap. But because the mushroom had a good side, they could sometimes be good. I know your last theory was a year ago and you probably won't see this, but if you do see this message, I just want to let you know this is my theory for the astral plane. (this comment is better than my essays)

The place they stole the moon sprite from is an old movie (probably the first ever made) called A Trip to The Moon. The face in question, is the most famous part of it where the rocket used to get to the moon embeds itself into its left eyeball.

PART TWO- Being a fan of animation and old rubber hose films, here's (some of) the animations I can tell were ripped off of to make assets for this game, if not completely rotoscoped/traced over *(-in THIS part-)*. Other animation fans feel free to drop in and correct or tell me your thoughts on things I missed: -Clarabelle Cow -The (badly traced) camel looks like it's out of a Fleischer toon somewhere. -As other people have pointed out, the moon with a face is based on the iconic "A Trip to the Moon" short which is actually live action. Yes, that movie is the inspiration for the Smashing Pumpkins vid "Tonight, Tonight". -The kangaroo seems VERY old looking, possibly from the 20s or 10s even. -The lizard boss(who becomes a sexy lady) is absolutely based on the Tex Avery toon "Cross Country Detours" -I am absolutely CONVINCED that the charleston-jig dance the cactus is doing is directly traced off of the animation loop of Ivy from Lackadaisy dancing. Look up "Jazz Cat Dance Loop", it should be right under the Lackadaisy channel. -The bear, samurai, witch and monkey are completely lost on me. I have no *exact* idea. It feels like the monkeys are rotoscropped Cab Calloway dance moves but I may be wrong. -The skeleton the bear turns into is ABSOLUTELY lifted from "The Skeleton Dance" and by that I mean it's hardly animated clipart stolen from "The Skeleton Dance" -Felix the Cat, obv -The Wolf escapes me. That's definitely not from the Disney short "Three Little Pigs" wolf. I think it's from warner bros or Terry Toons? -The attack the witch throws at you, right down to some of the animations specifically, are badly traced from the ending of "Minnie the Moocher" where Betty and Bimbo get chased by the ghost walrus entourage. -Betty Boop herself, obv -Moar Skeleton dance -As mentioned in the comments section of the last vid the Mad Scientist is definitely based on "The Mad Doctor" and the monster is doing the Thriller. But here's where things get weird: the Mr. Hyde dude that springs out and attacks you is based on an obscure 1980s Australian animated adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde from Burbank films. Weird. -The Ice monster feels like he's from a few things. He moves disturbingly close to the ugly old creeper tree from "Flowers and Trees" but there is an old animated short about a snowman who comes to life and is evil that film was one of the basis of the ice boss in Cuphead DLC but as always I this game just directly traced. -The exact assets of Santa, the elves and the reindeer confuse me but that is absolutely the Rankin/Bass Frosty the Snowman.

Fun fact: this was in a real Looney Toons cartoon where they had to rodoscope a stripper to make it lol 3:47
