1/2 wave antenna does not need a ground plane. We mount them so that the base of the antenna is below the cage in the back, and then just duct tape an extra pre-tuned whip to the cage. We've rolled it twice at KOH and the antenna never broke.

Did you buy or fabricate your hydro assist mounting bracket/box welded to your axle tube? I'm in the process of installing a hydro assist ram on my LJ now and like your set up a lot.
