@@Judgement_Kazzy I read a really good book about this entire thing, and man you wouldn’t believe how mad Jobs was about this price of junk. Like my man was actually livid about what Motorola did during their partnership, because he expected and pretty much demanded something truly special (like he was known to do), and as you can see here the Motorola phone ain’t it. You can taste even to this day the giddy excitement and passion for the iPhone in that first conference (even tho the first gen iPhone was junk in its own right), which makes hearing him talk about the Motorola even funnier. No passion at all, and even a sarcastic bite if you listen hard enough.

I remember selling these back in the day. It was trash. Not because it was 2005 but because, at the time, Sony Ericsson were churning out incredible MP3 playing handsets. Even by today's standards, they were great. The W800i was in a completely different league. I got one for an ex girlfriend who messaged me in 2018 to say she had only just retired it :) That little W800i outlived our relationship by over a decade :) On a related note, I recall being told by a Moto sales guy that the 100 songs limitation was actually a deliberate software bork from Apple who didn't want the Moto phone eating too much into shuffle/Nano sales.

Apple and Motorola (and IBM) worked together back with the first Power Macintoshes, and even managed to make a Mac powerful enough to be classified as a supercomputer by the US Government (which resulted in the Power Mac G4 being banned from sale to certain countries), yet 6 years later they release a phone from last year with only 100 songs and crappy controls. Motorola, what the hell happened?

I had this phone, still have it! I had the black one though (Motorola E398) and they did a collab with Black Eyed Peas with that model. that's why there were already presaved BEP ringtones on this one. Man, I loved this phone. I felt so cool with this tiny phone. The coolest part was the speakers on the side - they had colorful lights built in. So whenever you played music, or someone texted/called you, it would start to flash those colorful lights around like you were in a disco or something. One of my favorite phones I had back then, so mate dankpods - thank you very much that you made this video. Absolute favorite! 🙌🏻 Greetings from Austria (Australia's ugly cousin), Ellie

I had one of these as a kid! It had amazing *stereo* loudspeakers and a really nice cable. The 100 track limit on iTunes was a bummer. I remember that with 100 tracks, it took a lot of time to launch iTunes, and I remember being annoyed that it was so easy to accidentally hit the music button and have to wait for it to load. I really wish you managed to play something over the loudspeakers! Mine came with a pretty fun soccer game and a The Sims-like life simulation, the latter was the first game I played that had this mechanic where it tracks the system time to advance the in-game time, which was a brand new concept at the time for this form factor. Really cool stuff! I actually stopped using it because I bought the iPod Nano, so I guess Motorola's CEO was right haha

I had the Motorola SLVR (pronounced "sliver") back in 06-07. It was the candy bar phone version of the RAZR. And I specifically bought it because it had iTunes on it. I could tell, way back in 2005, that at some point in time the folks from Cupertino were going to merge phones and iPods. I saw my fellow college students walk around campus with an iPod in one hand and a cell phone in the other. I still have that phone in a box in the basement... somewhere. If I find it I'll ship it to you Mr. Dank Pod.

I had one of those back in the day. Aside from the improved sensor it also had a macro mode (via a little physical slider near the selfie cam) that worked surprisingly well, as well as an LED "flash" (it didn't actually flash-you just toggled it on and off in the camera app). Unlike the original RAZR that thing was able to take heaps of abuse, and since it had a microSD card you could take more than 15 photos before you ran out of storage. I don't recall seeing it available through any major carriers in the US (though I know the V3xx was), but I was able to buy an unlocked handset through Newegg.

I believe the reason why it came out so terribly is because even though Motorola was a big company at the time and made amazing phones, they were going into unknown territory without having little to any experience prior to this. The idea to have music on a phone is genius, but not if it is a detriment to the phone software and hardware itself.

@@drewzero1 exactly. This product was over hyped but underworked. As it is shown in the video, it had major problems like how slow it was, how it would say "no sim" and how it would sometimes brick itself out of nowhere.
