Anatomy class, community project, clinical skill training... the first semeter won't be that easy for these young medical students. The documentary project, Medical Project, filmed the exciting and also exhaustive semeter.

My brother just had open heart surgery, going on 3 wks ago... aortic valve replacement.... and to think that the surgeon was ONCE a young medical student, just starting out, with so much ahead of him..... It is just so awesome to me to think about how much one has to learn and memorize before they even get to do anything in an actual hospital setting.... and that is before they even start on specialized training for the area of medicine that each soon-to-be doctor plans to go into after their internship....

im 12 and ive wanted to go to medical school since 3 years ago. ive been looking up information on just about everything i come across and ive been watching these videos and playing simulations on my computer. no matter how hard i will find school, ive made a promise to myself and to my family that i will get into medical school, no matter the stress, sleepless nights, all-nighters, and hard exams.

BEST WISHES and GOD BLESS to EVERYONE going to med school as well as nurses' training..... I totally admire and respect you all for your commitment and desire to undertake this training that will go towards serving humanity. You all have a special calling and gift, I believe... Not everyone can do this, emotionally or psychologically..... That has to be there from the start.... One can only begin to imagine.....and so I wish you all the best!!!

agreed. I'm friends with a few medical students and we hang out at least once a week. They enjoy medical school and they told me that they got adjusted to studying a lot, so they don't even have to study as much anymore. You get used to the hours and you start to remember things faster if you make connections with what you are learning. But then again, it depends on the person.

I'm from the same background and I'm part way through my first semester at St. George's SOM, you don't need a medical background to want to be a doctor, you just have to be dedicated to learning what you need to know in order to help people.

As our English professor have said: "Just do the work". As long as you're doing the work, you're then making progress. And making progress and not being "stagnant" is very very good. But the best thing is making more and more progress with the same amount of time and effort; and smart effort is always best.

It's hard as hell. I have a friend at UConn SOM and the schedule is more intense here. the campus has a ton of student resources, organized study groups, learning councilors, they have assistance programs for people who need or want the help (those give you a more structured schedule with certain learning strategies integrated into them). The professors are overwhelmingly good and interesting. All of us 1st termers are equally shell shocked by the workload so everyone helps each other out.apply!

My family is modest and they only earned around $55,000 annually COMBINED before the economic crisis. Last year, we only earned $17,000 (not including my wage). I just got into medical school and I am paying $25,000 a year to become a doctor. When I get out, I will owe about $145,000. I will become a real doctor in 7 years, to which I will be able to pay off my bills 3 years after that. Becoming a nurse will be better off financially starting out than to become a doctor.

Medical School has always been my dream since I was 15 years old. And now I'm a 2nd year medical student , I have my RS(respiratory system)exam within 12 days and I still have loads of study to do. Medical School is such a challenge , it needs a fully committed person who's willing to work hard all the time and sacrifice alot. The marks are also disappointing and highly competitive. am I having second thoughts about medical school? Never. I guess like they say Love is blind!

There are plenty of kids in school with a similar background. Not everyone who steps into this profession has been afforded wealth since birth.

Well I'll have around $400k in student loan debt when I'm finally done with residency 5 years after graduating med school. Only then will I be able to start making payments (9 years after starting). Tell me how a family doctor making $120k a year can support his/her family and pay off $400k in debt in two years? Even if I live modestly on $60k a year, after taxes I'm only able to put $20k a year towards my loans. Since interest will still be piling up it will take 15-20 years to pay it off.

I was directing this statement more towards a surgeon . An attending surgeon's average salary is $224,000 and that is what he/she is paid for pretty much coming to work everyday . You make more based on the amount of surgeries you perform . My close friend is an Orthopediac Surgeon and makes around 2.5 million a year . I did not mean to come off as ignorant , but it is my mistake I should have clarified .

+Aaron Baker The Weber test is a quick screening test for hearing. It can detect unilateral (one-sided)conductive hearing loss (middle ear hearing loss) and unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (inner ear hearing loss). The test is named after Ernst Heinrich Weber (1795-1878). Conductive hearing ability is mediated by the middle ear composed of the ossicles: incus, malleus, stapes. Sensorineural hearing ability is mediated by the inner ear composed of the cochlea with its internal basilar membrane and attached cochlear nerve (cranial nerve VIII). The outer ear consisting of the pinna, ear canal, and ear drum or tympanic membrane transmits sounds to the middle ear but does not contribute to the conduction or sensorineural hearing ability save for hearing transmissions limited by cerumen impaction (wax collection in the ear canal).

this would have been a really nice video if you would have left out those three people who mentioned why they wanted to become a doctor. They gave out the most ridiculously childish and immature reasons, like "because of my parents" or "T.V shows." I mean if you're going to interview students in medical school, interview people who can give a meaningful reason, for those are people that will truly become good doctors. Also, you should try interviewing people who grew up a lot less fortunate
