Today, I want to cover the first sign of magnesium deficiency. Many people don’t get enough magnesium from their diet, not to mention other factors that deplete magnesium.
Magnesium is a cofactor involved in 350 enzymes. A cofactor is something that is required by an enzyme to work.
Symptoms of magnesium deficiency:
• Cramping
• Twitching
• Arrhythmia
• Osteoporosis
• Osteomalacia
• Insulin resistance
• Insomnia
• High cortisol
• Depression
However, the number one symptom of magnesium deficiency is fatigue.
The top cause of low magnesium is not consuming enough magnesium in the diet. Foods rich in magnesium are vegetables and leafy greens.
Consuming large salads is a great way to get the magnesium you need. But you can also take a magnesium supplement. If you do take a supplement, consider magnesium glycinate.
Other causes of magnesium deficiency:
1. Refined foods
2. Fructose
3. Alcohol
4. Certain medications

00:00 🧪 Magnesium deficiency is common in the United States, affecting 68% of the population due to dietary insufficiency and other factors. 02:43 🛌 Fatigue is a significant symptom of magnesium deficiency, as magnesium is crucial for energy production and muscle function. 03:38 🫀 Magnesium is essential for maintaining a healthy heart by regulating calcium levels and supporting the sodium-potassium pump. 04:21 🥗 Leafy greens and vegetables, particularly in salads, are excellent sources of magnesium and potassium, helping prevent deficiency. 05:45 💊 If dietary magnesium intake is insufficient, consider magnesium glycinate supplements, avoiding types like magnesium oxide, hydroxide, and carbonate.

I had chronic fatigue years ago, I would sleep for 15 hours a day and STILL be constantly tired. I went to drs and naturopaths. Eventually I asked the naturopath if maybe I could be Magnesium deficient and she put me on a magnesium supplement and the difference was unbelievable! Within days I was back to normal. Great video! I was definitely mag deficient ( insomnia, IR, cramping, and all the hair had fallen off my legs) but fatigue was not an issue. I was always jacked up on cortisol due to chronic stress. Months of salads made me worse with severe bloating. I wasn’t digesting due to lack of HCL. And I wasn’t absorbing the magnesium and other supplements. I cut out salads and did a daily blended cabbage juice instead of salads. I started a daily morning routine of soaking my feet in epsom salt for 30 minutes with deep breathing and increased my HCl and supplements with meals. Also, IF and low carb. The keto was depleting me. No cell phone or blue light after dinner. I walk my dog after dinner and started playing guitar again and reading before bed. The hair grew back on my legs, I no longer have cramps, and insomnia is gone. It’s an ongoing process but you have to continually find what works for you. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Peace love and blessings.

Dr. Berg. The following comment's are not related to this video but I had to share some personal information with you and how your video's have helped me so much. January 2023 I had my first A1C test and was told at 6.4 I was pre-diabetic. A month later I was at my Dr's office and he did another test and I was even higher at 6.6. I really didn't know what to do till my brother suggested I check out your videos. The first one I saw was "What would happen if you gave up sugar for two weeks". That video changed my life. The fact that the medical industry doesn't share this info is criminal. When you stated that if to much sugar is the problem, then why don't you stop eating sugar, it just sounded right to me. And that's exactly what I did. I weighed 270#'s at 6'1" tall. I had a follow up in three months and I was down to 250#'s and the A1C had dropped to 5.7. Still the low end of pre-diabetes but moving in the right direction. Today I had a follow up and my A1C was 4.8!!! and my weight was 207! I now read food labels but not once have concerned myself with calories, and have never gone to bed hungry! Thank you so much!!! I look forward to many years of watching your videos!

I recently was watching this daytime program and the host had a nutritionist on her show telling everyone about vitamins and minerals and specifically she mentioned magnesium. She said that if someone was eating breakfast cereal in the morning and that it was "fortified", as many overly processed, cold cereals indicate on the outside of the box, that they'd be fine. I about lost it. I don't know how anyone can think that they can get the necessary vitamins and minerals they need from a "fortified", sugar laden, overly processed, cold breakfast cereal. Thanks for this important information!

Magnesium Bisglycinate is one of the most effective bioavailable Magnesium Forms👍‍.➡It's attached to 2 glycine molecules. Attracts less water & has much higher absorption. Glycine also helps reduce pH in small intestine, supporting absorption & preventing Magnesium deficiency. Beneficial for improving Magnesium status, generally well-tolerated & unlikely to cause diarrhea. Involved in energy metabolism, muscle contraction, DNA synthesis, blood glucose regulation & reproduction🙂. 🚨⚠Avoid these versions of magnesium: Magnesium sulfate,Magnesium carbonate,Magnesium oxide and Magnesium hydroxide.

Omg im so happy he mentioned the glycinate form specifically! It makes me appreciate my doctor so much more!! I went in to see her during my first trimester, struggling with pregnancy depression and trying to figure out how to manage it without meds. As with many docs, she first told me about my options as far as prescriptions go since SSRIs are considered safe during pregnancy. Well, I didn't want them, and I told her I would only consider them as a last resort and was hoping to find a more natural solution. She was super happy about this and then recommended magnesium glycinate, specified it had to be glycinate, and I started taking them that day! Let me tell you something here, I've dealt with depression throughout a lot of my life and it's gotta be pretty bad for me to talk to a doctor about it tbh. Taking the extra magnesium has taken the edge off and allowed me to really enjoy my pregnancy, get along better with my bf, and has eased some of the other preggo symptoms like leg cramps and not being able to sleep well at night!!! I consider it my miracle supplement lmao

I'm so glad you mentioned the mitochondrial need for magnesium to produce ATP. However, I've found many patients I work with consume copious amounts of magnesium, and they still have magnesium deficiency. RBC Magnesium is the best measure for magnesium status and should be as close to 6.5 mg/dL. But taking more magnesium and expecting it to replete your deficiency is like filling a cup of water with a hole in it, and expecting that cup to keep the water in it. That means, if you don't address the mitochondrial "stressors" you will always be playing catch up with the magnesium dosing.

When I ate family meals. We always had a balanced meal and I still had leg cramps as a child. After being on my own the leg cramps disappeared for years. Then as an elder the cramps reappeared and when getting blood work done it was found that I was always low blood potassium. My doctor would have me taking potassium supplements. I was still having problems with leg and hand cramps while working. Saw a shot video about cramps and taking magnesium. It worked for me and my blood potassium would be normal when the doctor would do future blood work. February 14th this year I ended up in the emergency room after getting a bacterial infection that keep me in the bathroom for three days before going to the hospital. Could not eat and horrible things were leaving my body on both ends. The emergency room does blood work and I'm dangerously low on potassium. I ended up on a potassium IV drip for days before I suggested that I needed magnesium. The doctor gave me the magnesium and the potassium in the blood was normal. I was released from Paradise Valley Hospital with a pill bottle with an antibiotic for the bacterial infection that caused my illness. After a few days on my own I couldn't get warm no matter how warmly I was dressed. Not feeling well again I went to an urgent care and was sent to a different hospital were blood clots were found in my lung and legs that were not discovered by the other hospital even though I had been checoked for those types of problems. This hospital checked my blood and I was having the low potassium and I ended up on another potassium IV drip. Had to again ask for magnesium again. What is with these doctors who prescribe magnesium oxide which is the hardest form of magnesium to be absorbed by the body? Again I had to ask for magnesium to stabilize the blood potassium in order to get out of the hospital. Hated all of the needles they bombard you with every hour is unreal. I've never been in a hospital for an illness since I graduated secondary career training when I eat something that put me in the hospital when the doctors thought I had appendicitis but needed my parents permission to operate. By the time they got to the hospital I was feeling better and I was released to my parents. Don't remember if any medication was required...

A good video would be "how to get enough magnesium from food while avoiding excessive oxalates." I know anyone who's ever had a kidney stone would be interested. Just a talk on these lectins and oxalates (anti nutrients) and a pro/con of eating them would be interesting. I'd also like to know more about why mushrooms need to be cooked to destroy some toxin. This is common knowledge, but when Paul Stamets was on the JRE podcast and this subject came up, he acted like he'd be tortured if he talked about it..which was strange. Many he was just being purposefully cryptic and a bit facetious. Idk. ✌❤🔥👁

To answer your question on Stamets, this is what someone said. "Mushrooms, even common button mushrooms, contain traces of carcinogenic compounds in raw form. The same toxin, hydrazine, is also found in portobello mushrooms, and shiitake mushrooms contain a naturally occurring formaldehyde. Both chemicals are heat-sensitive and abolished upon exposure to heat."

I started having palpitations at age 15 (female hormones). They were just light and fluttery, came and went. I would have infrequent spells of this all through my adult life. Two years ago at age 68 I started having them so strong I felt like fainting, had to put my head down for a few seconds. So listening to Dr. Berg I upped magnesium and it helped reduce frequency and strength. This year after hearing Dr. Berg and others recommend Glycinate I switched from Citrate (about 3 months ago) and have not had a palpitation since! I've always suspected a minor heart defect at birth because when I tried athletics (swimming, running) I had no stamina and gasped for breath with extreme fatigue. I'll never go for diagnostics but I'm encouraged that taking more magnesium might keep my heart strong enough to live a good quality life for the remainder :) Thanks Dr. Berg - as usual!

Fun Fact - in medical books from the 70's magnesium is only mentioned in passing as a milk of magnesia or as a remedy in some forms of poisoning. How did magnesium take the leap from being essentially a metal used for industrial purposes up until that time to now when it's an *essential* mineral or else we all die? Did nobody know about minerals in the human body back then and if they did, why didn't the medical books explain the processes at length? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Only way to fix your blood pressure for good is to do the Niacin protocol. It must be the flush version nicotinic acid and it must not be time released. You must take a minimum of 500mg (half a gram) and withstand the uncomfortable flushing effect which feels like an allergy, you go all red and tingly but it is not an adverse or allergic reaction, it's the Niacin working and causing vasodilation. The scientific protocol calls for 1500mg for 40 days. I'm only taking 500mg but the flushing works so well and I think it's enough. It only lasts one hour and yes it's very uncomfortable but your pressure and cholesterol levels will improve within 21 days and heal in 40. After this , just monitor yourself and continue with normal dose b complex. This is the only way to both get off the poisonous meds and fix your problem. It's dead cheap too. Wish you well,

Here's a quick and encouraging list highlighting the prevalence of magnesium and its wonderful role in human biology: 1. Magnesium is abundantly present in the human body, making it the fourth most abundant mineral. 2. It plays a vital role in activating enzymes that are involved in numerous metabolic reactions. 3. Magnesium supports muscle function, helping with contraction and relaxation. 4. It contributes to a healthy nervous system, promoting brain function, mood regulation, and good sleep. 5. Magnesium with the sodium- potassium pump supports cardiovascular health by regulating blood pressure and maintaining a normal heart rhythm. 6. It is crucial for maintaining strong bones and preventing conditions like osteoporosis. 7. Magnesium is essential for energy production, ensuring that your body has the fuel it needs to thrive. Here's a list of supplemental forms of magnesium, ranked from most to least bioavailable: 1. Magnesium Glycinate: This form of magnesium is highly bioavailable and well-absorbed by the body. It is often preferred for its gentle and calming effects and may support sleep and relaxation. 2. Magnesium Citrate: This form is also highly bioavailable and is commonly used as a laxative due to its ability to promote bowel movements. It may be beneficial for individuals who struggle with constipation. 3. Magnesium Malate: This form combines magnesium with malic acid, which may enhance absorption. It is often used to support energy production and muscle function. 4. Magnesium Orotate: This form is believed to have good bioavailability and may support heart health. It is often used to promote cardiovascular function and optimal energy metabolism. 5. Magnesium L-Threonate: While not as well-studied as other forms, magnesium L-threonate is thought to have good bioavailability and may have a particular affinity for crossing the blood-brain barrier. It is often used to support cognitive health and brain function. 6. Magnesium Oxide: This form has lower bioavailability compared to the others mentioned above. It is typically used as a laxative and may not provide as much elemental magnesium as other forms.

Read side effects of Magnesium before taking it. I was taking magnesium diligently. I had to stop because I was getting random panic attacks, and depressed and tired. I could not figure out why. Therefore, I looked up every vitamin I take. The bad side effects of magnesium is the exact opposite of what this guy is saying. Perhaps it affects different people positively or negatively. I don’t know. All I can say is that I do not get panic attacks any longer. And no depression either. I only thought to put what I experience out there.

Due to it being a major reason for my kidney stones, I can't eat a lot of salad. I eat what I can, but I'm definitely going to start taking the supplement.

I use Magnesium oil spray for deodorant. If you spray it on your inner thigh’s before bed you’ll sleep good. Magnesium is absorbed topically better than Internally.

I love huge salads! I had one tonight. It was an organic salad mix from Costco and I added a hard-boiled egg and an avocado.

Hi Dr Berg. Love your videos like always. Thank you for sharing. I order your supplements. How long should or can a person take magnesium ? Not for a deficiency but for health. Thank you.😊

A high sodium intake greatly exacerbates a deficiency in magnesium. The first subclinical sign is constipation. You only need a small amount of magnesium but it is an essential small amount. Too much makes you bad tempered. A few dolomite tablets a day if you hate salads.
