Yes, it's the Double Pitzen. I really like the Palomar Knot but this is better with fluorocarbon line, very strong knot.

Thanks for the knot tying demo. Close up clear, easy to follow. I usually use a Palomar knot but this one is much easier for bigger, bulkier lures. Gong to practice it.

Double line thru the hook eye, fast and solid looking knot. I've been using the Palomar knot for 30 years for those same reasons, along with a few others. Palomar can get away from you and you have to watch crossing lines in the knot. This appears more manageable. Have to tie it up a dozen times to give it a test drive. Dee Thomas has a double line thru the hook eye knot that's intriguing too. Incorporates an improved clinch. Looks like some testings in order. Tackle nerd peeking out. Be well

The name does matter, because every popular knot has one. This is the doubled up version of the old German Pitzen knot, the Double Pitzen. Later, someone invented the San Diego Jam, which puts the doubled tag end through the gap above the eye before coming up through the top loop like the Pitzen. The Uni and double Uni are equally strong but tied completely different.

I know that as a San Diego Jam or the double shindo. It's a good clinch/cinch knot to use as long as line is wet before cinching it tight so you don't burn the running line. Great demo and advice to add some weight while tying it. Thanks Randy.

SD jam knot goes through the eye loop and top loop. I like the SD jam and often double it too, but this one’s a little different might try it out.

Like you said, This not technically a double uni, but the end result is very similar. The double uni creates three tag ends too. Awesome knot though. I tie a single uni or just a uni for ultralight lures, jerkbaits, topwaters and cranks.

Hey Randy, after watching your video I realized that this is the same knot I learned from watching Shaw Grisby at the classic years ago. He called it a double Pitzen. The technique he used to tie was different but yielded the same knot. Great knot for fluorocarbon and thanks for sharing an alternative way to tie it.

P.S.A. This past weekend I tried a different snell than normal, and I had it pull out while punching. 65# braid. Stick with a Uni-Snell. It won't slip. Some call what failed on me a "double snell". It definitely needs more wraps with braid than a Uni Snell.

Absolutely right Randy! Best knot there is for Flouro and Mono! Been using it for the past 4 years and you’re right on the money, it does not break. Came across it a while back after watching Shaw Grigsby and Gerald Swindle talk about it. But your video is on point with the explanation and the visuals. Wish I would have this video when I first started Bass fishing haha Keep up the great work!

Mark Zona’s shark knot is essentially an iteration of this knot., you’ll break your pole before you break that knot.

I've been tying this knot for 4 years and it's never broke. It's an amazing knot. I've even started tying it as a single instead of a double when i'm trout fishing with 2 pound test and it works great for that to!

Thank you. You just reinforced my confidence in this knot. That’s the only knot I use for flouro since I had a couple palomar knots snap and cost me a couple of expensive lures. Hasn’t happened again. There’s not as much pressure on the line at the knot because of its design. I find myself tying it even more with copolymer and mono, especially for big swimbaits and heavier baits.

That's awesome. A mart showed me that knot at the classic like 10 years ago. It has NEVER failed me. From 6 lb to 25lb to braid. great knot and great video bud.

That's a Pitzner knot. The San Diego Jam goes through the bottom loop then the top loop I believe.

I loop the tag ends around my finger so they always pull evenly, this knot solved my break off on hard hook set fluro issues

I watched another bass fishing youtuber call that knot the " double pitzen" funny how there are so many names for the knots we tie. Lol I agree with you though that it doesn't matter what you call the knot as long as it's tied right. Lol

You can also put the loop end through the bottom hole, grab it and then synch the knot down on it. That way every time you pull the main line it actually gets tighter. Same difference I guess.

I remember when you showed this knot forever ago. At that time I was trying different knots on my floro set ups because I was having knots break every once in a while. Its sense been only knot I tie on floro & hasn't failed me yet. I still retie fairly often depending on cover I'm fishing & mostly on my big swimbaits. I've seen couple other guys tie it & everyone calls it something different? I just stick with double uni. I don't care what it's called. I just know it's working great for me!

Been using ever since I saw Aaron showing this on youtube, Aaron would say it's more like a synch.. I like it because the line comes out away from the lure. Love it for jerkbaits, spinnerbaits especially. Sometimes in grass you will get junk on it on the tag end for jigs. R.I.P.

Great knot. I know it as the double SD jam or Jimmy Houston. I use this on heavier floro unless weeds or moss is present. Then its the sd jam which also is my go 2 with 12# floro and under. Only use the Palomar with mono/copolomer.

It's a Pitzen knot, been trying it for 30 years, the Marine Corp Bridge Division teaches you it.. BTW it's perfect for Braid because it's not a traditional knot, it's a cinch knot.. The tighter you pull the mainline, the tighter the knot gets! You don't need to moisten it either, as it's a wrap, not a dig!!

Quick and easy knot that will shatter on hard hook sets . Aron had a fix for this by making his own shrink tube insert for tungsten slip sinkers to prevent the knot from shattering when the weight and knot collide during hard hook sets the knot can and will fail or break.

randy there is a tool in the chemical world that puts two lines together... and u can't even see where it was done at.. we used it on reactors no no nuk but chemical reactors. the tool kind of large like size of a small tackle box but it can't be broken at that point. if someone took that tool got it down to small tool. would be fast and great or or they will ban it.. ooooo 4lb to 14lb is what I've seen it use with

It's a great drop shot knot too. The Palomar knot would always fail on me after the 1st or 2nd fish. After switching to this I've had no issues.

Love that knot! Never breaks even with the hardest hooksets. Technically, it's not a knot... It's actually a "line bend" because it never locks down, you could pull it apart if you leave longer tag ends and pull on them hard enough, but pulling on the main line just clinches it tighter. I guess this distinction is meaningless to anglers, but math nerds find it interesting.

It is a great knot ! Jimmy Houston has renamed it the Jimmy Houston Knot. It is a double uni knot.J.H. should have named it the Laughing Hyena Knot.

Great knot especially for fluorocarbon. Been using it since I saw a Gary Klein video about 8 years ago. Gary said he didn't know the name of the knot. He did say Shaw Grigsby showed it to him. It's much more dependable than the Palomar knot, IMHO.

I see a lot of other videos on this knot putting the main line loop through the bottom loop near the eye of the hook first before putting back through the loop at the top. Does this matter, make it worse/better? Any info on this would be great.

I like this knot for jigs, or really anything I’m cracking hooksets on. But it is a little bulky so for moving baits, I’ll use the trilene knot

There is a test out there that was done with all the modern knots, as well as old ones, the only 2 knots that never broke at the knot was the Pitzen, this knot here, and the Trilene!!!

The best knot is one you can tie. I tie a Palomar or a trilene knot. Whether it’s mono, fluorocarbon, or braid. Never has failed me. It’s the braid to leader knot that gave me trouble until I stopped screwing around with the FG. I learned the crazy Alberto. It’s thin and very strong.

I use this for all my Flouro and Mono, even for my drop shot. I just hang a drop shot weight on the hook while I tie it up.

I like this knot for fluoro but I find the 3 tag ends grab a lot of grass... would u ever put the loop back thru the loop at the bottom so there's only 1 tag end at the front?

Double Pitzen - great knot. Best to call knots what they are, and not cause a couple of buds say...we'll call it ___________ cause that's what we *think* it should be called... Uni is a uni...overhand is an overhand...bowline is a bowline... Different ways of tying, different structures, different breaking strengths, different uses, etc...

Question...I tied this knot and tightened it and before I clipped the tag ends, I pinched the knot and pulled on the knot. It slides on the main line. When you clip the tags and do this again, the line comes right off of the hook eye. What am I doing wrong?

I've used the single-line version of that for almost 40 yrs, it was the first bass lure knot I learned at prob 6 yrs old. I can literally tie it at night with no light just with muscle memory. I've never had the single-line version break, so obviously the double-line version isn't a liability.

Always use Berkley because it is always a good line. Never has failed me. Also, made in the USA which is important to me.

Single uni and palomar knot are strongest from what I've researched. Let me know if you find a stronger knot via knot strength tests. 3 tag ends seems like a weed catcher.

I’ve been using a San Diego jam knot for so long that every time I try something new it lasts for one or two times then I forget and end up back to the San Diego jam knot. It’s not that I mind trying something new it’s just that my brain is programmed to my old habits. Good lookin knot though. I’ll give it a try. Once or twice anyway. 😎

I always thought that was the Palomar knot.. I guess I was wrong.. I still like the clinch knot.. My eyes are getting old , so I might have to try a new knot for after dark..

The clinch is only about 60% as strong as the line. The double-line Uni and the double-line Pitzen is 99-100%.

I still haven’t found a knot for tying smaller mono/fluoro leader to larger mono/fluoro mainline. All I can find is for tying to braid.

Good title, good video. Not trying to trigger you Randy, but it bears mentioning that this knot is nothing like a single line Uni knot. I actually tie a doubled-line uni, (exactly the same as a single line Uni, but with doubled line) and it's also very strong and good w Fluoro. I know you dismiss the importance of names, but names are important in classifying things like knots, lures, techniques, etc. If I called a Blaukat old school jig an arkie jig, or Stanley jig, or a football jig, you'd probably correct me, right? Perhaps, to eliminate confusion, you should consider re-naming this knot in honour of the master angler who taught it to you. The AMart Knot has a nice ring to it, and you'll avoid the confusion that arises from using names that suggest one thing, and deliver another.

This is a good knot. I tie the palomar and its just as good IMO. You have to tie the palomar correctly is the key. Ive never broke off the palomar. Gerald swindle calls this knot the double shindo. LOL

Because it's a cinch knot.. The more pressure on the main line, the tighter the knot gets..

Did not know the name, so,I called it my three cut knot.. People I showed this too would question cutting the line three times, until they used it, and most have stayed with it (like myself) for years…. 👍👍
