Fishing and competing my entire life and working in tackle retail for over 10 years Iv had the opportunity to learn many knots from all over Australia and the USA. The improved San Diego Jam knot instantly stood out to me and once I put it to the test I soon realized it was the strongest knot out there. Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think! Cheers Carl

Almost EXACTLY how I tie a double pitzen. You double the line from the start thru the eye instead of going thru twice is the only difference. It works extremely well on all line types

I am pretty sure that the knot shown is actually the double pitzen. Starting it this way makes it easier if the line is heavy or the eye is small.

Killer knot. Fished this knot for over 20 years on my faster "reaction" baits or on my trolling baits. Other knots that are equally strong, but a bit more finicky to tie are the Erwin Knot and the Spangler Knot. Both have a much smaller knot profile.

I use this also, its just as strong with a single line too. I double it up on larger cranks and jigs.

Double pitzen doesn’t go through the loop at the bottom. That’s more like the San Diego jam, only doubled up on the line. That’s why I said it’s like a mixture of the two.

It's also known as a listen. See Base has Tyler Berger uses it to tie on lures and the improved clinch for hooks. He uses the Palomar on braid. Good instruction though Carl!

I currently use the double pitzen and it has woked very well but I'm always open to using a better knot. There's only 1 more step to take from the double pitzen to the Improved SD jam knot so it's not going to take much longer or be any more difficult to tie.

Have tried time and again, works very well with a large lure, but any video or suggestions as how to tie a single hook such as a 1/0 or similar in size. Without the weight, bulk of the lure very difficult to do.

I've been tie almost the same knot with floro also. Only thing I was missing was, I wasn't treading though the bottom loop. I did my wraps downward then went up through top double loops. I haven't had any issues but I will b giving this a try for sure

It cinches easier doing it your way. I do it your way most of the time. I think it's called a pitzen knot.

@@barnes80 I wasn't sure what it was called? It definitely does tighten down way either not going back through other loop. It's has served me well on floro. I still re-tie alot , after a big fish or multiple small one. Prefer not to cast off my baits if I can help it ...

@@maxcole3930 yea, you are definitely tying a pitzen knot and if you are doubling it back through the eye like in this video then it's the double pitzen. I use it all the time and have no problems. Both knots are awesome though.

Double San Diego jam knot. Tried and true knot. There is a reason the San Diego jam knot is used by the entire long range fleet.

Nice knot. I had to watch it a few times cuz I kept falling asleep. Way too much and I don't ever get my knots to break doing it with way easier ties.

Just seen this, coming from the UK it always amuses me the number of different names you Americans have for traditional knots (no offence intended), every video calls this knot by another name. Over here it has always been called a tucked blood knot and has been in use since the dawn of time! I've been using it for over 70 years. For small hooks with little eyes you can't double the line so you have to tie it with only one strand. Liked the video.

I tie the double pitzen on fluoro. Similar knot. I’ve always worried that the line would burn in the San Diego jam. Thanks for not saying the Palomar. I hate that knot.

That knot, although strong Will impede the action of a lure..Personally I like a loop knot so the jig may be free to move.Thanks for this tutorial

Yes mate always lubricate any knot with fluorocarbon, I just did that to show that it doesn't burn or mark the line when synching it down!

So, it's almost the same as the one I tie. Which I don't think has a name. But you double up, wrap up the main line and then down through the bottom loop and around your bait like a Palomar. It's the strongest knot I've come across. Only one tag end when done. So one third the chance of slipping. At least in my mind.

The only way the double pitzen moves is if you pull on the loop. Once you cut the loop, the knot can only tighten up.

What's the difference from the Double Pitzen?..Double the line, go thru, wrap around 3 to 4 times, go thru the loop at the top u created, pull tight and cut the 3 tag ends. Great flouro knot!

You've could finish it in a Palomar knot with extra turns. I tie the knot with no turns (Palomar) and i've managed to land a 6 foot european catfish with it. One of the best knots out there, and very fast to tie on the water.

You should make an actual step by step guide so it's very clear what is being done. I personally use a Jimmy Houston Knot on all my lines, not just flouro.

Three negatives about this knot. It's modertaly hard to tie. You lose quite a lot of line while tying it. You get three loose ends when you cut it.

I wouldn't use this knot if I am using fluorocarbon as a leader. After 2 lures you have to cut and tie another leader on. There is a lot line being wasted doing this knot.
