The Fiskars X7 Hatchet: Yes it's plastic, but no, don't worry. Just use it!

Fiskars as a brand has been around since the mid 1600s. It knows steel and cutting tools. It was the first to patent plastic-handled scissors back in 1967, and has been making innovative, useful, and durable cutting tools it seems forever. So the Fiskers X7 Hatchet is just one of many great tools they offer. But understand its advantages and limitations. Like any good tool, use it properly and it will delver.

I bought my first Fiskars hatchet in 1995 and used it a lot. Lost it a few years ago and replaced it with the newer X7. In my opinion and experience they do not break, even at very hard use. They last better than axes with wooden handles.

I own a Gransfors, and a Fiskars X7, and the Estwing...the Gransfors and Estwing are really designed as limbing hatchets, the X7 is much better at splitting. I typically find the X7's geometry to be more useful as a general camp tool except for that damn casting ridge or whatever that thing that goes right down the middle of the pall is, but 10 minutes and a file can clean that right up for hammering tent pegs etc. The fun thing about it is the X7 and the Estwing are theoretically light enough to pack both if you were really worried about it, but I think carrying a limbing and splitting axe/hatchet is really a system best adapted to vehicles, but that's just my opinion and it's probably worth exactly what you paid for it

Fiskars x7, Mora robust, Opinel Carbone and you have a low weight combo that no other tool or combo can beat at ANY price.

The Fiskars are great! I carry the x7 and a 15” in my truck. If you want to use that x7 to hammer just file the back smooth The heads are tempered as well Never had an issue with breaking I have three Grandsfords buks and I use them for camping Obviously the heads and lengths are going to determine their use I’ve never had a fiskars handle crack in cold temps and I’ve used and beat up on them But I would use the fiskars as well ✌️

I saw Wranglerstar just did a video on the $12 harbor freight hatchet and he was pretty impressed with it after he did a lil work to it.

I bought a fiskars x7 and a still this weekend and the fiskars cut the branch quite well. The only thing is the pummel needs to be fixed.

I have to worry. It's slick , can't be reshaped to fit my hand, and the bit geometry of the head is not great for more than kindling splitting. The steel on these is also pretty soft too. It's also something that unlike others definitely has a lifespan, that handle cannot last for ever or be replaced. This however is coming from someone who's favorite hatchet is a belt axe that was hand forged in 1864.

Fiskars mades great edge tools, but I simply won't get an axe with a plastic handle. I love the history of axes as one of the most important tools everyone homeowner needs to own, and to me that means a hickory handle. I can see the benefits of plastic in modern usage, but it's just not for me.

I like them, they punch Far above their weight.....but they Do take some getting used to if you're coming from wooden stuff.....I know their full size axe took some getting used to, I hated it at first, then realized you have to swing it Much faster and get into a different groove....where speed is king, not power, then it works great......where-as my wooden stuff you gotta put serious Weight behind your throw, Fiskars, you just gotta throw it as fast as you can.

Yeah, I have a 23" Fiskars "chopping axe" that I was given as a gift 15 years ago. I didnt think much of that axe at first, not sure what's changed but now I love it. The other day I had to use it to buck a couple good sized birch trees so I could drag them off the road, I had that little axe throwing chips nearly big as my hand.
