Many buhurt fighters are well trained athletes and can defeat almost any harness fencer in their own discipline with through brute force and power. Technique makes little difference if your opponent is stronger and bigger than you, but by no means slower. Niklas Wehrmann is in armor over 2 meters tall and a power athlete. He is a fighter of the german buhurt club Decima and the best knightly model on instagram and also on KZfaq. Check him out!

it seems to me that a guy with grappling skills and a dagger would be really deadly, i thought daggers would not be as usefull against armored opponents but it seems like something suprisingly effective, i guess spear is just a big stick with a dagger and hence it's massive use almost making it a "standard weapon" of choice

Here's my question. If you knew that death was really on the table, that if the other guy gets his dagger free and gets it in you you will die, would you fall into grappling as often? I just feel like in these fights we see this same result over and over because that's how you "win". But you don't win if the other guy is on his back but you have a dagger up to the hilt in your kidneys or lungs. It feels like, regardless of the debatable effectiveness of maces and the like, you would do everything you could not to get into a grapple, because both sides become incredibly vulnerable.
@corvanphoenix
@corvanphoenix 4 күн бұрын
Heavily armoured fights don't get to grapple to win points, they get to grapple because the fighters are too exhausted to keep wrestling with their big weapons. You definitely do what you can to avoid the grapple & to gain maximum advantage when you're in one, but the enemy has a say too... Historically, armoured individuals like these are rare & often valuable, so the downed individual would usually not actually be killed, but taken for ransom.
@Lurklen
@Lurklen 4 күн бұрын
@@corvanphoenix That's my point. These guys are going to the grapple because they will win the fight that way, I'm suggesting that if you were really playing for keeps you're less likely to go there until you have to and fighting to exhaustion might be a reason why, though if you're that gassed on a battlefield, you might be in trouble regardless of how your knife fight went. That said, these are simulations of duels, not battlefield combat. Though I think people knew they might be ransomed, I'm sure most of them knew it wasn't a guarantee. I suppose if your planning to yield, or call for surrender, going to daggers might make that more likely, but in the thick of things you're also very likely to get stuck like a pig too, so it's all a gamble I suppose.

Lately I've gained much more respect for european knigths as being highly skilled fighters in many disciplines. Today we basically have Krav Maga and MMA that resembles real fight (MMA not so much, but at least it tries to remove most tournament restrictions). Back in the days every fighting skill had to be implemented in real fights or it would be useless right away.

I like longer flails! The striking head of a buhurt mace is actually heavier. In the end it's preverence and a longer flail with more counterweight at the butt didn't help in close combat, but strikes harder in distance.

Anyway he is in a debate is scholagladiatoria about the effectivness of the mace in armoured combat. He went on to say that Dequitem uses Buhurt maces that weigh 2.2lbs. So he busts out a historically accurate mace just to prove that they arn't as effective as they are represented. So yes this was full force.

Everything about this was unrealistic. No one would be aiming for the shield with a mace. They would be aiming at the knee. Somewhere that mass can do some damage. Going to climb on top of someone like that that dagger is going into your groin or up your backside. If you are going to try people what a historical knight fight would have been like at least try to do more research on how they would have fought. This is about as historically accurate as a couple little kids having sword fights with sticks in the back yard.
@dequitem
@dequitem 2 ай бұрын
What the fuck are you talking. No one aims for the shield. If you hit the knee nothing will happen. There are Videos where I bash his knee, it didn't hurt him at all. The only weak point is the head, and that's were you aiming for. You are a couch warrior and never had a helmet on. You know nothing about vision and the effects of armor to a fight. I did my researche and tests on the highest possible level. I know what I talking and show. Even if there were mistakes in the fight, than it would be fine because it's a fight and not a choreography were everybody knows what he has to do. Humans dio mistakes when they fight. Even real knights!

@@dequitem LOL Nothing will happen if you hit the knee huh. Never seen what happens to someone when their knee folds sideways have you? They wont walk for months. This armor has nothing to prevent that from happening. If you two actually hit each other with the intention to kill the style of fighting would be completely different. Everyone knows you can not do that and you are holding back your strikes. The fact is these weapons were designed to counter that armor. To smash joints and break bones. Yes it is still very good defense against the hammer/mace but with full power hits joints will bend and twist ways they were never ment to go. The knee will bend or hyper extend in ways it can not go without severe injury. You can insult me all you like and pretend you are being accurate but you are wrong. You smash that knee backwards or sideways they will fall. This isnt some deep medieval fighting secret it is just basic biology. The head is not the only weak spot. Not by a long shot.
@dequitem
@dequitem 2 ай бұрын
@@plaid13 :D I see you never tryed it. We dont hold back, because we normaly dont have to. By knee is locked in armor, it cant bend it sitways if you didnt bend the armor and you will not bend it that significantly from a normal strike, but good luck trying it :D There is also a good reason why no historical source show attaks to the kneeplate, only in the back of the knee where is no armor.
@plaid13
@plaid13 2 ай бұрын
If that isnt holding back you need to do it more often and build some strength and speed. If you cant bend a knee sideways with a mace/hammer shot to the knee through that armor you need lots of work. Only held together with some rivets and leather right? Thin mild steel unless you didnt make it even remotely accurate. It will bend or pop a rivet the knee only needs to go a fraction of an inch maybe a half cm to go out. Of course I am assuming at least the armor is historically accurate and you didnt use modern materials. Doesnt quite look like it should. Bit dull and dark for normal mild steel. The steels they would have used at the time would not have been able to take a blow from a hammer or mace without deforming some unless thicker and curved like a breast plate or helmet would be. I havnt gotten a great look at that knee joint on your armor maybe you have some real interesting design but all the historical armor i have seen has rivets that allow it to hinge They are loose enough to pivot and flex and the steel will bend. Its dull and not polished and its not rusting. I would almost guess it was stainless steel of some sort but that would be too soft. Is it steel at all? Didnt make a whole set of armor out of titanium did you? I imagine that could be tough enough to take blows without deforming at the thickness and weight you would need for armor. Even if it was a good solid hit with a mace or hammer would cause that joint to deform and bend to the side. Unless of course the weapons are lighter than they should be. I have not done armored fighting but I do know enough about biology and metal working to understand nothing in a suit of steel plate armor is enough to stop a knee joint from going side ways when hit with a couple pounds of steel swung hard when someone has their weight on it.
