The Flea by John Donne - NET SET | British Literature | Heena Wadhwani
The Flea is a poem of seduction, a metaphysical erotic poem composed by John Donne.
It was published posthumously in the year 1633.
With his humour and wit, the speaker tries to woo his lover, physically. He uses the conceit of a flea bite- this flea bite is compared to sexual intimacy between the speaker and his lover. The question remains whether the woman gives in to the speaker's logic or looks through his strategy and rejects his idea.
