Out of all the versions of this tune, this one is my favourite. So sorry, Paul Revere and The Raiders and The Monkees. What I needed to begin my day -- this very heavy tune from 1966 and some dazzlin' lovelies -- especially the fabulous gal at time mark 0:21 ! Wow! I'm in her thrall! Many thanks heavenlyblueorange!

Written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, first recorded by Paul Revere & the Raiders in '66. The Monkees released their version in "67. You can't go wrong with any version. The Flies version is the heaviest and most psychedelic, devoid of pop psych. Your video adds a face to the song. HB👌 Ty

In 1974, during the same week, I saw that Munsters episode with The Standells, and my school showed some “drug film” made during the 60s which had a clip of some garage band, showing the reverse-color Vox organ keyboard etc, and they sounded super-jagged and rough, like The Chocolate Watchband or something. I couldn’t even take the sheer levels of coolness. That “damaged” me somehow. My Blue Oyster Cult and Steve Miller albums just didn’t sound the same to me anymore. lol. The only music I liked after that was mid 60s trashy rock, except for Black Sabbath; I still liked them lol. Let’s just say when that Ramones album happened, I was ready af.

Where are these ladies today? God, I was born 20 years too soon.

This association of freakbeat with the mods of the 1960s is curious. Smocks, necklaces and long hair were the death of mod. Skinheads won't let me lie.

First I love this cover song, Secondly I need to point out in this video this is what real women are supposed to look like! You don't any of them with tattoos or hardware all over their faces. And most importantly not the entitled little princesses like today!

I do not think the Monkees created the original. The Liverpool Five version was released in june 1966 or theit LP 'Arrival' on RCA . The Monkees version seems to be issued in august 1966 as a b-side ..... Great song, good version by the Flies

Great version and love the video as usual. Magic Train would be their most psych track of their three singles. Formerly known as No Flies On Us But, The Flies recorded a number of demos and singles and went through a few line-up changes before parting ways in December, 1968. Members went on to be in Bulldog Breed, The Gun, Please (4), and T2 (3), amongst other groups. T2 released on of the great prog albums in It'll All Work Out In Boomland with blistering lead guitar from a still 17 yr old Keith Cross.

Well...I will agree that, this is the best video version of "Stepping Stone". However, as for the actual song's version. I myself appreciate The Monkees original job and I also fancy how Mark And His Gang ...revs it up with their wild guitar and Mark's vocal action. This creation above is still enjoyable for me...being a 60's die-hard ...I too groove the psyche sound and feel their message...but, I am biased..I gravitate more to quick guitar and vocal work. Thank you

Great Swingin' London dolly girl model footage! (Note : Does anybody recognize famous trans', Amanda Lear/ Tap, next to 60's topmodel superstar, Pattie Boyd, on the video post image? )... BTW, this version is '67, not '66 : the original American garage-band version by the WC Fields Memorial Band that the Monkees covered and made the hit with, is indeed from fall '66.

I'd go back to the 60s just to look at the women (called girls at the time)
