A few years ago, I tried to share this special with my parents for Dad’s birthday, but unfortunately, they couldn’t go beyond the opening scene here, as to them, their memory of Fred and Wilma Flintstone was too pure and amicable for them to imagine them on this level of animosity with each other. Mom especially couldn’t conceive of Fred ever being that mean-spirited or dismissive. I felt really ashamed. It was the one sign that proved to me once and for all that the storytelling values of Savino and Smith, at least before Savino’s disgrace, never fit with my or my family’s better convictions.

In a way, Warner Bros. is like Nintendo when it comes to media-preservation. People want to be able to have access to all their productions. But unfortunately, they don’t just don’t release them through either modern accessibility or in WB’s case, give them physical media copies. And if they do with the latter, it’s usually missing some stuff like the Ed, Edd, n, Eddy Complete Series. (It’s ironically a scam that they marketed as “complete” when it really wasn’t!)
@The-Sycophant-Fox
@The-Sycophant-Fox Ай бұрын
Not just Nintendo has a preservation problem, the whole country of Japan does. There's so much media which wasn't preserved in Japan. It's rather less likely for Western animation to have a preservation crisis in this case.

As another guy said a few comments over, it wasn't. This was an exaggeration, because couples were either much better or much worse to each other (an abuser doesn't go to therapy and sarcastically throws jabs at you, they just go straight for the throat, they go to hurt you). Fred and Wilma would never get like this in the original, and definitely not physical, Wilma breaking a plate on Fred's head would be shocking enough.

It's ridiculous people actually believed this was normal back in the day. Guys this is a cartoon. It was a cartoon then, and it is one today. It's always been satire. A "Can you believe these people?" situation, much like Married with Children, etc.

@@Vespyr_Yeah exactly that’s not to say it wasn’t more common since people didn’t talk about it as much or weren’t able to divorce then. It still wasn’t actually seen as a super good thing. It's a cartoon and for a cartoon they have an appropriate squabble. If I never got a concussion from blunt trauma and objects would respawn off-screen I wouldn't mind if my partner hit me with them either. What you have to look at is the effect, which was normal back then and should be normal right now. Wilma uses a level of violence that doesn't actually hurt Fred and Fred uses no violence because he could easily hurt Wilma. Also he has no reason to either.

This special really wasn't very good. It's got way too much of that latter day _Dexter's Lab_ and _Powerpuff Girls_ humor where they'd loop animations and sound bites over and over purely to pad out the runtime. That scene where Fred and Wilma are eating dinner in silence other than making awkward noises over and over again for like thirty seconds is a prime example.

Only something Fred and Wilma's gynacologist would know...good sticking it to her. Many women are like this today.
