Free is often a hook, a means to an end. Considering the content of this movie, I think the end game is social conditioning\propaganda. Free...but with extremely high (not so) hidden costs - loss of personal rights and freedoms via the most used manipulation technique - Fear.

The British never fail me. I just want to talk about how well done this movie was in every way. I love the concern of the higher-ups versus those below them. It's funny that in American films. It's always the opposite way around. The leaders are the ones that have to be convinced of the dangers and those Underneath them have to try and convince the leaders of the dangers. I enjoyed the the characters and their acting, the swiftness of the movie during boring parts, the storyline and also the cinematography. It's just one of those movies that hit me in all the right places. Was not a typical disaster film in any way.

My favorite actor ; love when he played Hercules Poirot. This movie has me holding my breath. The traffic jam reminds me of New York City; when the terrorists hit the TWIN TOWERS. I worked in a Manhattan supermarket. We closed the doors. We were locked for hours. Finally , we were able to leave. I lived in The Bronx. Usually it's a 40 minutes ride. It took 2 hours. The first thing I did call my kids and my parents in Puerto Rico. I turn the TV on, saw the Twin towers falling. I cried. Just thinking about it now , makes me so emotional. Every one stay safe. Greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Sir David, Robert Carlyle, and David Hayman (Major General) from such an array of gifted British actors...it does not get any better than this! Excellent direction from Tony Mitchell (Toronto born) truly, the creative captain of this disaster movie, and beautifully photographed (a festival of shades of blue & dark grey) by Pierre Jodoin, Director of cinematography. No spoilers! Man, this movie was great! And tense! It's just long, and for movies these days it's a welcome change. Great sound, great script, and from my perspective it hits all the buttons in terms of human relationships, commitments, race against time, sympathy, empathy, close calls, etc, and I think for the most part it was realistic. And finally, the use of potty language was kept to an absolute minimum. I say Bravo to that!! I would pay to see this on a giant screen, as long as it had an intermission. 👍

I think one thing we should all remember is that in catastrophes of this scale, it is impossible for any government to save everyone. They will try, but more than likely fail. We should all be ready to save ourselves. The fewer people the government HAS to save, the more that will be saved.

Excellent observation. Of course it’s easy to critique from an armchair - but some of the chief characters don’t seem to have much common sense. . . I can’t guarantee l would be rational in their place but screaming her husband’s name into the storm after he dives in to find another boat seems ludicrous. How could he possibly hear her - and she suggested going back (swimming?) to the barrier!

I absolutely love how this movie get's so many things right, and manages to create tension, or tragedy, or drama without people yelling or wire-fu. Often even without words. No wonder the cut-down-to-two-hours version bombed: this movie is great exactly because it takes time for moments to sink in. Bonus points for jumping the obvious trite cliche of the one despicable corrupt bureaucrat who stalls evacuation so he can sell the historical orphanage or whatever, or somebody messing up. With a storm like that at high tide, you don't need card-carrying villains to create extra trouble. Nature isn't predictable, sometimes it just socks you in the face.

Very true we shouldn't take anyone for granted, the family, the friends, workmates or neighbors you never know what can happen within a minute. And mostly.... We should always listen to what others have to say, no matter what wrong they did before, they might be bad at something, but will be heroes at something... Just like Professor, people called him obsessed and crazy coz he failed his family but look now..

Wonderful national disaster story. Great storytelling, you are kept on the edge as the tension builds and the clock is ticking. The scenes are riveting, we admire the bravery of the people in charge of the safety and those involved in predicting the direction of the tidal wave. Absolutely. I'm just saddened that in the theaters they showed a an edited-down version (110 minutes) which is astonishingly bad. You'd think a good movie remains good if you cut a lot of stuff out, but you lose a lot of character background, emotional impact ... it's a crying shame. According to wikipedia, this full version wasn't even released on UK tv. That's really slapping the entire team, actors, director, technicians and the lot, in the face.

Robert Carlyle's character on Once Upon was the only reason I ever watched the show. I'd watched the pilot out of boredom, was happily snarking about the costumes (the evil queen shops for wardrobe in a sex shop? well, why not) and had already crossed it off my "watch this" list ... and then suddenly there's Rumpelstilskin, all twitchy and devious and huge, weird eyes, sizzling with nervous energy. Hooked.

Three hours was not at all enough to evacuate such a huge population, but it was more than enough time to get everyone on high ground. There were so many high-rise towers and yet everyone was on ground, stuck in their cars, trying to evacuate! The whole movie then stopped making sense, watching people trying to survive the flood. Not to mention, when wave-flooding happens, the biggest danger is not from the water; the biggest danger is from the rubble. That wasn't shown here at all, nor did it hinder anybody in their journey. Also, while the inward wave caused a massacre, the solution offered was to flush out the water quickly with an outward wave...out to the ocean. Its like if people in the first wave somehow saved themselves through tunnels, clinging onto something for their dear lives, seeing people lose lives all around, not able to save their colleagues, their loved ones, their fellow survivors, a second wave in the other direction would come. Aw sh**! (Face palm). And now they're pushed out to the ocean! And so much of ocean water was pushed inland and no sharks?? No dogs, cats, not even rats???

The frustration of waiting for the following evening to watch the next episode drove me crazy, thankfully it was only four nights. This was so much better being able to watch all the way through and being able to take pause it when I needed to. Watching it a second time around was just as good as the first time, actually was better than the first time. No commercials and a superb TV movie in one show. Now I know it is here, I will be watching it again. Anybody thinking of watching it, get the popcorn out, cast the movie to your television and get comfortable. British TV at its best.

Agreed. I love that they took the time for details like: the metro isn't just going to be packed wall to wall, but we can't run it to the last minute, either. Or the (you'd think) very obvious fact that emergency service like to get a head's up so they can prepare. That's really one of the few obvious mistakes I thought the mayor & consorts made: the moment they knew there was a tiny chance of London being hit? That would have been the moment to give the emergency services a 'just in case' call.
