I got chills and emotional when the Shaman lady said "this, is the Flood". Truly gave it an immediate feeling of weight. Like they discovered something truly important. The only confusion on my end comes from the apparent airborne transmission. I guess they’re going to be making some characters immune because Miranda, Soren, his wife (until she’s wounded) son and Kwan were directly exposed but didn’t get infected.

Because flood spores take swarms to infect someone. Facts are in canon you can survive being in flood air until they contaminate the atmosphere. This has been shown time and time again in canon but people take Shipmasters clearly exaggerated word for fact. Halo wars 1 literally has a designated flood spore swarm unit that infects units by flying into them infecting them and turning them into combat forms. Besides Arbiter walks into areas that have only just been taken over in Halo 2 as the sentinels have been combating the flood for thousands of years with their defense holding until Arbiter lowers the shield wall.

This is actually canon for a flood outbreak started by spores. The forms we’re used to seeing are when the flood has further progressed.

Because it's a new outbreak with people going about their business. They were in contact with other infected people. They could be in the command for an entire day. Unaware they're being transformed. The infection appears to take some degree of time to finally seize full control so they stand innert. Remember in Halo Chief arrives after the outbreaks start.

There was one marine who got "lucky" and got a weakened infection form. So was transformed, felt every excruciating part, and continued to live in horrific pain for at least a day. But at points, he was able to fight for and gained control of his body. With this he was able to warn the human survivors... and convinced someone that it was wrong to leave Halo in a captured Covenant carrier... infested with Flood. To be honest the leader was an idiot who not only took the ship in the midst of a zombie apocalypse but also take samples, including the infected marine, back to EARTH. In other cases the Gravemind is fully capable of assimilating people so they are awake and fully aware. He can even draw upon not only the memories of long dead and destroyed victims but also make them fully conscious. Meaning death is not escape. Being destroyed is not escape. As long as the Gravemind is active, every victim of the Flood is back. And suffering. It is Hell. Sweet dreams.

This is literally canon, bro. This is what the initial flood infestation was like. It slowly escalates to what we are used to as the infection progresses. Right now, the flood spores are in a weakened and early stage. Once it infects enough biomass, it evolves and becomes way stronger and quicker at infection. I don't know what to say, man. And this pattern goes through the whole show. I love the covenant designs they used and the weapon effects. But then there are Jackels with energy swords and even taking the special forces away we see more Elites then Grunts. The way cortana was created is also right, but then her purpose was to make Spartans better by taking over their minds and also all of the sudden she is the first smart AI and no mentioning of the degenerative problem. Halsey's work and. Ethics are also good portraits in the show but then she also gets involved in adventures just to get her as a character included in things I don't understand why she needs to be everywhere involved. The Pelican/Condor got done beautifully, but then to get something done as a story they all have FTL/slipspace.

@@deleter1823 I think its because due to its infancy and that it was from spores instead of infection forms, the spores itself takes time to incubate and take control of its host rather than an infection form immediately assimilating and transforming its host. The scene where the small infection form goes into the woman's eye however does seem immediate which I like. Goes to show that even a small infection form can still immediately do the job. Definitely love how they are introducing the Flood in the show
