The Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner
In Wagner's first masterpiece, a ship's captain is condemned to endlessly travel the seas in search of true love. The "masterful" Patrick Summers (Houston Chronicle) conducts a cast of outstanding Wagnerians led by Greer Grimsley, who thrilled San Francisco Opera audiences as "a thunderous and dramatically compelling Jokanaan" in 2009's Salome (San Francisco Chronicle). Making her San Francisco Opera debut as Senta is Lise Lindstrom, called "a fast-rising star of the dramatic soprano repertory and absolutely one to watch" (The Independent), when she appeared as Turandot at the Royal Opera House.
Presented in celebration of the Wagner bicentennial year.

I made this opera with Grimsley in Bologna 22 years ago, Senta was Martina Serafin and Dalan Matti Salminen … was simply WOW!

What a great story . Senta's ballad is famous but is there any really memorable music.Schonberg's Warsaw is eventful enough I dont forget anything.Here -I expected a tune .Great orchestration -the overture is forgettable.Maybe I need more listens . I think I'll modernize this tale - find it's sources -seems relevant enough at all times . the entire ship could be those condemned to sail the saes looking for a heart of gold . haha! FLIEGENDE HOLLANDER FLIEGENDE FLIEGENDE !!!

I would definitely buy the DVD of this performance- if the San Francisco Opera changes their mind that is. I do hope my Canadian dollars are good enough.

@@cristinademartini1284 I have always loved Flying Dutchman and finally found the perfect production and all I have is 8 minutes making up two videos? Please please release a DVD!!!
