Interesting. The thing that I have found to work is reframing the pain as a sensation. Becoming interested in the sensation itself beyond the label of pain this seems to help A couple it from a sense of suffering, which is a story you're telling about that sensation.

That's a really good way to put it. It's very easy to back away from pain because you're scared of it but often many of the greatest rewards in life are on the other side of it. If you allow the fear of experiencing pain to overtake you then you're just limiting your potential.
