The Ford Bronco was made to unapologetically, absolutely dominate shopping mall parking lots, err... sorry, the competition off-road. Jokes aside, the Ford Bronco is packed with very clever, non-gimmicky features that are genuinely useful off-road, so we’ll be highlighting 10 of those features in this video. But I’m going to do my best to include a more realistic way each of these features can be used when inevitably your $50,000 purpose-built off-road machine ends up being more commonly used to bring home house plants from the local nursery. And like, maybe a bag of mulch, or something.
While maybe it sounds like I’m mildly cynical about the new Ford Bronco, really and truly, it’s one of the most impressive vehicle’s I’ve driven offroad, and not just because it’s another truck with lots of ground clearance, big tires, and a proper four wheel drive system, but because so many aspects of it are engineered in a fashion that allows it to master its craft, without gimmicks. It’s a crazy popular vehicle, but it actually lives up to the hype. If the only complaints I have about it are poor fuel economy and range, I’d call that a huge win considering it’s a 5,000 lb brick shaped object. A beautiful brick, I might add. I love the Bronco, and if you happen to get your hands on one, you probably will too.

@A walrus ???? The guy next door to my Sister has a quad cab 3/4 ton 4wd. It's lifted. LED under glow. Wheel wells too. Crazy rims w/baloneys. A real pavement princess. He's late 20's early 30's married. A kid in high-school and one in middle school. His wife drives a plain jane sedan. Meanwhile down the street is the same model vehicle. He works for some earth works outfit. It shows. Good to know. If I get the inclination to rob the cradle. First on the list will be a light bar. Have a great day.

There were some good jokes in there, and I suppose with this being a Bronco video, this might be in a different style from most others on this channel, future and past. That said, I'd like to offer some constructive criticism from a watchability viewpoint. Engineering Explained is a place for learning a lot of of interesting things about cars and their systems. Sometimes that information comes at such a pace that it takes genuine strong concentration to follow the chain of thought leading up to the actual lesson. That's not a problem. It's a great way to learn a lot in a short time. However, when I'm concentrated to learning and instead the chain of thought ends in a silly joke, I feel like Charlie Brown having the football yanked away by Lucy. I found it distractingly jarring. I felt like I my concentration and focus "went to waste" in a way, and I wasn't sure if I was watching a comedy show or an engineering lesson. I then found myself not concentrating on the next bit of video since it was just comedy. But then when it turned out that the next bit was actually useful information, I had to go back and rewatch it because I wasn't following the lesson properly. This made for a frustrating learning experience. If these HAI-style jokes are going to be a staple on the channel from here on out, perhaps try to pace them in a ways that the listener doesn't confuse the set-up with the actual engineering lessons that require concentration. Maybe one way to do this is to give the lesson, have a pause, then crack a quick joke about it and then move on to the next serious lesson. The bit about stealing body panels from other Broncos near the end worked quite like that and was genuinely funny and not too distracting. Still a fan though, and always love to learn! I might be in the minority with my concerns. Thank you Jason for all the hard work you put in!

@@arantala While I understand your frustration, I think that shooting the information buildup with a joke is the whole point of it. These jokes would not be that funny if they were announced in advance 😂 But I think it goes hand in hand with this kind of videos. This is not a typical whiteboard lesson, therefore it can definitely be more jokey 😁.

So did the H3 and Landcruiser, which could also be had with a V8! The real winners will be the enthusiasts who buy the tricked out mall crawlers for cheap and turn them into serious off roaders and overlanders. I have yet to see a brand new truck out on the trails where I go. If I do they are usually parked off the access road having a camp fire. Nothing wrong with that of course but you can get to those spots in a Dodge Caravan with a load of wood in the back. Personally I wheel a 1990 Isuzu Trooper with 33's a lift and ARB lockers. Jeep owners be worried (I have a Power Wagon) Stelantis can take some features from this Bronco, Ford absolutely crushed it for the first try. Big items I like and wish mine had would be the independent lockable diffs. Id love to lock the front only, currently i have to lock both and be in lo range. The 2nd big item is the modular construction, that should be a huge marketing feature! Damage a panel and simply swap it out. I find it odd that its soo heavy and it could be a big drawback in mud.

You should go review a 2010 Hummer H3T with the adventure package, if you can find one, many of the features you described were in the Hummer 11 years ago before Jeep and Ford. But today I'll stick to my Jeep Rubicon. I have the 2 door version, it's small for maneuvering trails meaning I have several lines to choose from and with the 2.0l engine I average around 26mpg for on road driving. Last but not least the auto aftermarket is enormous. The aftermarket business for Jeep has been around since the 1940s. It's still possible today to buy parts for an original Willys Jeep. But this is a good video and a fair assessment.

Very good video! Kept me entertained and informed. And I see Ford did it's job in the "one up" category of the Wrangler. Quick remove parts, 6 Aux switches, etc. Great amenities for the average, go out a few times off roader. Great video though! Love the channel!

Fun episode. Just one critique: light bars actually have multiple advantages over headlights. 1. They are mounted up higher, so they are less likely to get muddy or damaged on terrain. 2. They are mounted high (wait, did I just say that?) This offers you a different angle of lighting which can give you a better perspective on the terrain. 3. They are often far brighter than regular headlights, yes even highbeams. 4. They can easily be pointed in any direction, giving you excellent lighting in all directions. 5. They look cool 😎

That is the absolute opposite use case for a front locker! Never lock only the front when climbing up a snowy object. In that scenario where the static coefficient of friction is crazy higher than the moving COE there is a very high likelihood that loosing traction with one wheel will cause the vehicle to slip in the direction of the wheel with limited traction. The wheel that still has grip will induce a torque on the nose of vehicle causing it to rotate, which can induce a sideways slide. An open front diff while climbing up an icy slope means that the wheel that stays in traction will be limited by the wheel not in traction, preventing this nosing over due to torque. Open, Rear locked, or all 4 locked, all work in snow and ice. Front locked? In my opinion thats sketchy and has very different uses. How do I know? I use these mechanics a lot in my outdoors fun. Offroad I use the front locker by itself to do exactly this type of slip on tight turns in snow and ice. This allows me to put the nose of the vehicle up on the side of the mountain trail I'm on, and spin the wheels to allow it to migrate over, allowing me to finish my turn and back down, successfully reversing my direction on the narrow 4x4 trails I drive.

Very good information and detailed. As a mechanic I'm not a fan of turbos, as they tend to break down prematurely and another trip to auto repair shop. All this first generation electronics would worry me. Time will tell.

Good review. This vehicle was well thought out. Time will tell how much the well thought out part of it is changed and how long the powertrain will last. There are those that abuse everything. You can't have everything in a vehicle, and gas mileage is one of those things. You want gas mileage, buy an economy vehicle! Thank you for this video.

And most Broncos sold will probably be the 4-door version, same is true of the Jeep Wrangler. Long wheelbase is the enemy of off road capability.

It's like someone actually thought about everything, then designed the vehicle. I'd really like one but I'm waiting for the design to improve or grow on me. Also wondering how these will hold up in the rust belt. All the mud that gets caked everywhere underneath usually causes rust. I find it impossible to completely clean my 4runner. Wouldn't it be great if they had a built in rinse system you could just hook a garden hose to? Maybe pressurize it some how? Wonder if a rust proof aluminum frame is possible? Of course we all know one of the main features of a jeep is the fast forming rust everywhere, so if doubt we'll see this from them
