when i saw the words Talyllyn and lawnmower my brain imagined Talyllyn pushing a metal wagon with a mower blade and chute underneath it passing Dolgoch while mowing weeds off the tracks

@@ItsTrainBoy I Guess that Rolt probably thought there was still some life left in the engine that had powered his Canal Boat Cressy. he certainly got some use out of it. it is lovely to hear that the Modern Day TR is planning on building a replica of number five

There's only been like, 2 that were retired. If you consider engines that used to work on the Talyllyn, there's about uhhh, 4, including the Lawnmower and Charlie's Ant, so, not many.

I hope they do restore The Lawnmower as to see the original No. 5 Talyllyn engine would be so cool! I didn’t even know she existed until a few weeks ago. Besides, it’s size is really cute!

Lawnmower is one of the more unusual unique engines. Not part of an experiment like the W1, or the result of unusual requirements like the narrow gauge Garratts of Myanmar, but simply built because they could with what they had. Incredible.

Dang everything dwarfs poor Lawnmower. Even Alf and he is the smallest Scarloey loco out there. Now I do hope it gets a Railway Series name, Buzzcut or the like. Sir Handle sure hates being pulled by it. Duncan must detest the poor thing. 😆

I never knew this engine existed! And you made another great model from it. This is the reason I keep coming back to this channel! I'm very fascinated by The Lawnmower considering that's how I spend a good amount of my summer. Hits close to Home!

I know i said it in the post you made to promote this video but i am glad the lawnmower is getting more recognition since it does have a role in preservation history...im currently working on a few variants of the original no.7 both in talyllyn and skarloey variants for trainz however i also plan to make a 3d lawnmower of my own at some point....keep up the good work...and hope to see more videos on little known engines in the future....i know the talyllyn railway has quite a few diesels that never have gotten too much limelight

KZfaq doing its thing and showing me an advert for an actual lawnmower before the video 😂 That’s a really cool project by the way! A powered coach would work well to propel it if you can’t find a small enough motor chassis for Number 5.

The engine failed after someone forgot to give it oil. My family has 2 model Ts and 2 Model As over the years, and they are almost bullet proof But nice to see more models

What a Great little summary of 5’s history! One thing I would note is that the wagon at 3:10 was not made it of The Lawnmower, but is actually an old RNAD wagon which is much larger.

How funny is it that the original No. 5 “Lawnmower” was a dangerous piece of junk meant to be a quick replacement for a proper steam locomotive... and fifty years later, we are planning on rebuilding this piece of junk... in commemoration of the man who helped preserve the steam locomotives! One generation’s trash, has become another generation’s railroading treasure. History has a habit of traveling full-circle in this manner ;)

I mean, to be fair, if it works, it works. The only gripe i have is if they give it the number 13, like, not only is it an unlucky number, but like, the Talyllyn doesn't even have a number 8 or 10 anymore-

I had no idea such an engine existed or that Midlander wasn't the first #5. It's practically lost history. I'd love to learn more about other retired or scrapped Tallylyn locos.

If you can't put a motor in the loco itself you could always cheat and make a powered box car that Lawnmower can pull behind. Sort of how the Skarloey engines in season 4 had to have a separate battery box for their eye mechs that they hid off screen or in a box car. Though I can imagine that might be annoying because ideally you would want to have the engine be able to pull itself. Just an idea!

For YT; there’s two reasons. One it’s a paid commission that I would like to replace if I do, and two people strongly dislike when I change my PFP constantly and I said I’d stick with this one to avoid that. So really, it’s a shitty situation all around that I wish nobody had to deal with. It’s not a defense of him or anything it’s the fact the art reflects me
