I mean, even in the movie, you could say he was ONE OF the main characters. The dead couple was the protagonists and he was the antagonist.

I was a teenager when this was on air. My favorite joke was when they're doing a morning show, and Jaques is doing french toasts. He tells Beetlejuice that the milk is old and Beetlejuice response is that not as old as the eggs showing a pair of dead rotten green chicken.

Short lived? It had 4 seasons! That "Dabudibudah" finish of the konga song they used is still something I quote to this day, even after not really seeing the show in over 20 years. This was one of my favourites as a kid and I think it does have a legacy. Not to the extent of lets say Ducktales but I think that the people who actually watched it, didn't ever forget it. It was unique to say the least.

Forgotten? No Way! Beetlejuice is a fantastic cartoon series! Not only did it broadcast on 3 channels with over 90 episodes, but it help establishes gross out humor! Way before Nicktoons were ever a thing! The voice cast was amazing voice cast ( With Lydia played by Jubliee, Beetlejuice by Archangel and Doomy the car by Morph!) And zany 4th wall breaks with word play thats still hilarious to this very day!😂 Love this show!!!❤

Want something with this tone but in 3D stop motion, check out Bump In The Night. Also, though officially unconnected, Bump In The Night COULD almost happen in the Life With Loopy universe. Looks different, goes more cartoonery, but same surrealism and random, weird characters, same over the top feel to the live action bits with the family, ect.

It should be noted, TIm Burton and Danny Elfman were both involved in this series. Burton was the EP and very involved in the making of the series. And yeah, as other say, this series isn't as forgotten as you think. This is a very beloved series, its just not streaming anywhere. I'm hoping that changes with the new movie coming out but since its WB, who fucking knows.

Beetlejuice originally aired on ABC on Saturday mornings. New episodes were on ABC on Saturday mornings, then later became one of the first cartoon animated series to ever air on Fox's Fox Kids weekday afternoon lineup, though also remaining on ABC's Saturday morning schedules, making it one of the first animated shows to air concurrently on two different U.S. broadcast networks at the same time. It later aired in reruns and moved to weekday mornings on Fox Kids on the local Fox stations.

I don’t think anyone forgot this great show. A better take would be that maybe time has tried to erase it. It’s rare to catch in syndication these days. But anyone who ever saw this show certainly didn’t forget it. It was a great show! Honoring the source material while making it its own. Much like The Real Ghostbusters did.

Don't see how it could have been forgotten, especially by its original audience. Like The Real Ghostbusters and The Addams Family, they made Saturday Mornings and weekdays really awesome for those who wanted more horror like viewing than Scooby-Doo, which went farther away from its roots at the time. The theme song by Danny Elfman was so catchy, I sometimes remember that more than the movie theme.

I think a good show to look into is the Godzilla cartoon from around the same time. It's an interesting example of a spinoff to a bad movie being quite good. And that cartoon was fully intending itself to be a sequel, I believe, and the Godzilla in it is the baby that hatches at the end of the movie, just now grown up. Though the Beetlejuice cartoon probably would more often be lumped in with the Robocop and Rambo cartoons, as a "why did they turn R-rated movies into kids' shows" sort of thing. But ultimately, I believe there were a couple reasons why Beetlejuice as a show didn't last long. One was its competition. It was on Fox Kids, which also had X-Men: The Animated Series, Spider-Man, and Batman: The Animated Series. That trifecta was going to be pushed more than the property based off a movie that the target audience likely hadn't seen. Fox Kids also had a Sam and Max show that really didn't go anywhere, as an example of another show that had a similar problem on that block. But the other reason it didn't do so well, I think, is that it ran into the same problem a lot of cartoons were facing: anime was becoming bigger. Fox Kids (soon to be Fox Box) started airing Digimon, and Pokemon was sweeping up American viewers. Suddenly, traditional Western animation was on its way out, and instead it was all about dubbing anime. Cheaper to produce, since it was already done and just needed new voices (and also got censorship, but that wasn't really needed, despite what the studio heads thought), and the kids loved it. There are shades of why Power Rangers was able to get so much support behind it (and that show was likely the catalyst to the networks pivoting so hard to anime, despite not being animation in itself).

Umm... the series got 4 seasons, nearly 100 episodes and was broadcast on more than one networks. I lived in Austria when it aired, and even I knew it, because it got dubbed in several languages. This series is anything BUT unknown, it was even my first contact with BJ long before the movie. Tim Burton was directly involved in the design of the characters, Danny Elfman contributed to the score, so it is as authentic as it can get. Of course they had to make changes, as the target audience was now much younger, but compared to what kids' cartoons were back then (Care Bears, The Smurfs, My Little Pony pre-G4), this one was really something new. There were no wacky cartoons we soon after were introduced via Cartoon Network, I'd even go as far as to say, Beetlejuice was the one that opened the door.
