The three iconic Minecraft dimensions - the Overworld, Nether, and End - but what existed prior to the full release of Minecraft?

In this video, I discuss the background of Minecraft's original plan for its first three dimensions, and how the now-removed Sky Dimension was meant to provide a sort of "heaven-like" aspect to the game. Of course, it's now been replaced by the End as its own dimension.
Many people were excited about the addition of this new dimension with Minecraft originally being in Beta. PC Gamer would post an article about Minecraft's Sky dimension as the third dimension along with the Overworld and Nether, sparking a tweet from Notch that would promise the addition of the dimension into the game eventually. But various technical issues would occur with the dimension that would seemingly put it to rest. Do you think there's any chance that it could, one day, return?
The goal and purpose of this video are to explain Minecraft's history of adding dimensions into the game, and specifically how the Sky dimension was a promised aspect of the game that would ultimately not make the final cut for the new game; however, it would manifest itself through the form of a NEW third dimension. It is possible but unlikely that this dimension will, one day, be added.

Mojang should definitely focus on the Ancient city portal since it could mean they could add a sculk dimension in the future.

Uhhh you know the ancient city people built the frame out of deepslate and the bonelike sculk material right? And that the gear loot is anti-sculk right? And that the city is not just covered in sculk, but on top of it, right? And that the city uses sculk sensors in its technology (the street lamps, the city center redstone room and the echo shards) right? And that deep dark can exist for thousands of blocks without a city, and that a sherd from an ocean ruin depicts the warden right? Also in disc 5 it kills a wither. All of this evidence points to the sculk, a seemingly alien organism, being native to the Overworld :>

I hope we get a designated end update before the next dimension... either that or an update to the end along with the addition of a new dimension, I think it could be very interesting

Y'all are way too eager to explore a dimension clearly not suited for human inhabitance. For all we know, the skulk came to our world to _escape_ whatever is on the other side of that portal. Anything that can send the Warden running isn't something we should be messing with.

I can't remember who said it but I know a developer had said the April Fool's updates take about a week to be made and there is zero focus on optimization so the code is nasty. That Potato Update was laggy as hell

I honestly would like to see a new dimension, someday. not anytime soon at ALL as the end is nearly useless (there's reasons an end update hasnt happened yet) and the nether update, while bringing a lot to the nether, still doesnt make it complete. and even the overworld is incomplete. I think a neat dimension would be the so called Nextworld, the dimension of spirits where allays, vexes, and the souls of golems come from. aka the dimension that evocation pulls entities from. a soul dimension of sorts. id see it as mostly peaceful, but there'd be some dangers too. idk how useful it would be though, maybe new forms of evocation would be unlocked.

other than obviously when it was added, there was an end update. 1.9 added the chorus fruit, end cities, other end islands, end ships, elytra, shulkers, etc.

Not 13 years ago, it was the April fools update 2021 or 2020 I can’t remember but they added so many dimensions

I think a dimension where one could reside as an alternative to the Overworld would be really nice. That would make each playthrough more diverse and exciting as one isn't necessarily bound to one dimension to build a house etc...

Mojang is pretty firm on their "no new dimensions" stance. There's a reason the only new dimensions we've had are all April Fools updates. 20w14∞ The Moon The Potato Dimension

It really fuckin' sucks because The Aether was able to be developed over a decade (nearly a decade and a half) ago and was a better, more thorough and thought through dimension than any of our vanilla dimensions. Mojang has gotten boring. We need another dimension! The aether being added to vanilla would be awesome.

Hes worked for them for a looong long while now, something would had come up at this point At the most the aether mod got updated recently for 1.20.1 after many years of no activity

Since 2020, and there's not even an official Aether add-on in the marketplace....the only thing close is the Ether and thats just a world pack

Yo just saying tho. The last thing we need is a new dimension while the end is still a useless wasteland. After you've collected a few dozen elytras you now have to spend hours flying through the boring nothingness to get more. And outside of that you have no reason to ever go there
