As a child in the San Fernando Valley, 50 yrs ago, I remember the 'smog alerts' that happened on a pretty regular basis in the summer time. We'd be outside playing, and all of a sudden an air raid siren would go off, sounding very much like the ones used in WWII. When we heard the sirens, we had to go inside, close all of the windows and turn on the air conditioners to filter the air. The smog was so heavy over the Los Angeles Basin, you couldn't see the mountains from across the valley, and sunsets were always blood red. Los Angeles and California have achieved miracles since then in clearing up the air pollution, but they still have a ways to go. We all have a ways to go. But, the clearing of the air in the San Fernando Valley gives me hope. If it can be done there, maybe it can be done everywhere else.

Also, when industry can find a way to do it cheaper, with minimal or extremely underpaid manpower, regardless of long term environmental or health damage, they'll pick the cheap method almost every time. Enter public outcry and govt. regulations. Which of course industry will spend billions of dollars fighting, instead of investing those same dollars into doing the right thing in the first place! Waging a "War on Climate Change" in 1982 would've annihilated the economy. A majority of Americans born past this point would've been born into poverty. No course of action before the year 2000 was economical, given the massive cost difference between burning cheap fossil fuels and utilizing the underdeveloped clean technologies of the time on a scale that would meet energy demand.

Even as a kid, I was never really fond of fossil fuel companies. I remember having visitors from bp and shell come to my high school to promote their work program and encourage students to come into the fossil fuel industry. It seems to be rewarding (aka you could make decent money). Yet, I didn't find it attractive. I guess my gut impression of them came true - they were a dirty industry.

We can't control that. The coal lobby is massive and they make sure to downplay the importance of renewables and nuclear. The fossil fuel industry has stifled the development of electric cars for decades, making them just recently available but still very expensive. The truth is that you are espousing what this video is saying and I'm not entirely sure you're not a bad actor. They know, no matter what, the Earth is going to warm. We are still emerging from a deep ice age. The warming will not stop until there is no ice anywhere. Not even at the poles. This is the normal climate of the Earth. For most of Earth's history, there is no ice, anywhere. There is no climate crisis. It's made up. The Earth is getting greener, it's a fact. You could say that's because Americans are spoiled and able to eat a lot of high caloric foods but a huge part of that is the large amount of fatty foods and highly processed foods that are poisoning a lot of us. We're living through a drought right now and groundwater sources like aquifers are going to run out so on top of the housing bubble that's going to pop we are going to have major water shortages within our lifetime. I'm a petrol head, i love my cars and i love driving. That is why i fuel up and ride my skateboard to work, to school, to get groceries. You have to stop pumping fuel for me to consider you NOT part of the problem. Go to school get a degree and go to work as a climate scientist or as a geologist DO SOMETHING! It might be too late to stop some of the damage but you need to think of it like quitting smoking. Even after you get COPD and continue to smoke your body will still get worse but if you quit the symptoms will at the very least stop getting worse. The worst thing you can do is give up and accept the world as ruined. Be the change, I am trying every day to convince everyone to stop buying bottled water and stop pumping fuel, Don't act like a nuclear dependant Telsa is going to save us. What we need to do is unfortunate, we need to stop using our cars.Even a Telsa, still use tires and power which is relying on mostly nuclear-powered energy.

@@lit_for_20 My issue is that these media company's keep peddling battery's as the saviour of the future when I believe were just trading one finite toxic resource for another. Lithium. Not to mention all the graphite that is required in the battery's. Have you seen open cast lithium & graphite mines? Were not even considering the increased power demand for these battery's which in most cases is NOT from renewable sources.

Weren't these corporate lies extraordinarily obvious? Step one isn't to be skeptical all the time, which seems to be an internet obsession, it is to insist on a proper education for yourself and your children. It's far more difficult to fool people who have a broad understanding of how the world works.

If you truly care about the climate, instead of trying to blame companies that provided essential services to us for decades we can only blame ourselves for choosing politicians that didn't try to invest in greener energy. If you really care then you should vote for the green party in your respective country.
@YourMajesty143
@YourMajesty143 3 жыл бұрын
Companies should be to blame. Voting in a few politicians from one party doesn't eradicate the existence of the opposing parties. They'll still be in Congress taking bribes from lobbyists & blocking any progress the Green party makes. And don't think Green Party officials can't be corrupted, even AOC has said the pressure to fall in line is incredibly heavy and she's surprised Bernie was able to keep up his resistance for so long all by himself. Your idealistic perspective doesn't work in reality. I'll continue to vote Progressive and Green Party officials, but I'm not naive enough not to hold these corrupt companies accountable. You act like it can only be one or the other. Essential services my ass, none of these companies are required to exist. There have been alternative energy options since the 40s, but we refused to heed the science. Don't think we don't hear your dog whistle when you call greedy corporations "essential services". You're full of it.
@dahasolomon7314
@dahasolomon7314 3 жыл бұрын
@@YourMajesty143 lmao dog whistle? First of all I'm not american so I don't have any skin in the game either way. Your politicians taking bribes is the crux of the problem, so long as that exists you can't expect companies to agree to anything lying down that will hurt there profit margins if they can simply pay for a senators re-election campaign. The biggest polluters weather they're in oil, construction, manufacturing or agriculture remain polluters because we all benefit immensely from them. It's our need for the very stuff that make our societies modern is what drives pollution. We too are to blame. Having said that I also believe optimistically that only power people have is to vote and if enough people vote for alternative parties or candidates that truly care about the environment you'll see everyone fall in line inspite of bribes (if the tide is too strong) and pass laws that curb pollution.
