Loved the options. But, one thing we as a club should always keep in mind is that we should go after the "profile" and not the "name". People would go for Theo Hernandez in a heartbeat & rightly so because his profile matches with Shaw (physical, driving runs, good cross, can play as a CB etc etc). But, if we stick to this principle of scouting according to profiles, we can go for players who aren't necessarily world class but can do the same job (and also cheap options) a fit Shaw does. (Eg, Liverpool were ready to spend £110M on Caicedo and it didn't go through but as they had their list ready, they could think about Lavia and then finally go for Endo, and which turned out to be a good signing). So, the traits we must look at are - strong, physical, good at overlapping/underlapping, can invert, and can play as CB. If we scout according to this, our options become specific and we can directly target those players instead of getting linked to everyone.

Agree completely with the approach you are suggesting, as well as pointing out the liverpool example. So on profile, all agreed but I'd also add that they need to be quick. If playing a high line, that's just as important as them being strong right? - strong - fast over long distance - good in possession - overlapping/underlapping - not injury prone That's it, isn't it?

@@martinlogan8329 Yes, I think speed has to be higher in the priority. One thing which goes unnoticed in our squad is physicality. Man City and Arsenal have a backline of tall, strong and quick players while none of our players has all the traits in one (Licha is short, Maguire is slow etc etc). We also need budget options so players like Theo H will be ruled out. If we are going to buy 2 CBs, one of them has to be a CB/RB or a CB/LB. This is very crucial. Our backline needs a complete overhaul, and if that happens, ETH can easily play the high line and front foot football he wants, I trust him with that.

Huh??? When has Theo ever played CB? Maybe at some point. But not at any legit level. His brother Lucas is the typical CB/LB versatile defender, type profile. Theo is severely lacking in anticipation a overall reading if the game from a defensive standpoint. Gets by on being an Athletic freak

I think we should get Nuno Mendes from Psg n give him a life line cuz he is rotting in the Psg bench... He is quality plus a pace boost is much needed in our squad.... Literally rashford is our fastest player n he is not even that fast nowadays 🥲

@@stailenknife5453 you think dalot is as fast as Walker? If I spent time thinking about it, I'm sure I could come up with a good fee more that are faster. And hojlund was described as firmer team mates as 'never that fast but he got quicker with age'. He's not darwin nunes fast, for example. And garnacho, come on mate, he's small, lightweight and not even as fast as rashford or dalot, who themselves aren't as fast as loads of other players in other teams. Spurs, liverpool and city all have faster players than us, easily. We're not a particularly quick team anymore. Don't listen to those clocked speeds like they are the be all end all. We can all see who the fast players are and they hardly ever are the ones clocked at fast speeds.

I was going to agree with you but bar injuries Shaw is quite elite and proven in the prem. The only thing Hernandez has over Shaw is fitness and pace

Good video but like your feedback on why we wouldnt just bring back Alvaro tp back up someone like Hernandez? He is in 99% in tackles and interceptions, 95% blocks and aerials, and doing well with attempted passes and asissts. Perhaps there is a personnel issue there??

Always look forward to your videos. Would appreciate a video on Cdm to replace Casemiro take a look at Alan Varela and Florentino Luis. I think players from the Portuguese league adapt well to EPL and I think bout or solid options and won’t be crazy expensive

@@marmedli9124 I really like Andre but not as a cdm and neves for 100 mil is really just a dream for us. And I think they are 5’7 and 5’9 respectively we might need more physicality and height considering we’d have licha behind them who isn’t tall.

Think we need a LB who can play LCB or a LCB who can play LB, someone who could compete with or be a back up to both Shaw and Martinez. Sort of like Aké at City or Alaba at Real. Ideally I think Lucas Hernandez would be great but he did just join PSG this season so I doubt that we could get him. Any such suggestions?

I think Theo in a good squad would be brilliant but with Bayern wanting him,l would prefer ait nouri over the others we need direct pacey good ball carriers in the fullback area,l think Robinson might be good option as he,s improved massively defensively and offensively,he,s ok

You very biased towards Hernandez, my self I like him but he is worse defensively than ait nouri and guiterez. Of course he is better than them going forward but having him in the team behind rashford screams weak defensive flank. You will need to have the DM closer to left side just to cover for them

U do realise theo has played as a cb for some games this season,his defensive inability is very overated,he is a great ball Carrier and will help rashford with his underlapping runs,l agree on the defensive part btw,l just don't think he,s as bad as a Davies or frimpong

@@ShawnGitahi yeah he isn't terrible defensively but the issue is fitting him in the team. He played a couple of games at CB but his biggest defensive flaw for me positioning at fullback. Getting back in to position, funny enough same as Shaw and just like Shaw he didn't have to worry about it once at centre back. The issue is rashford in front, Martinez as CB next to him You have a forward that doesn't really track back and centre back that isn't great in the air. For me it's a recipe for disaster. If we have garnacho instead at LW than it's a different story to cover for Theo's runs but otherwise our nr6 will have to spend most of the game shuffling to the left. That will open huge defensive gaps

I'd say start malacia next season when he's back and have amass as his backup. At rb, sell wan bissaka and get geertriuda from feyenoord and have dalot as backup. In central defence, sign branthwaite and todibo, start licha with todibo and branthwaite and kambwala will be backups.

Can’t spend big on Branthwaite just for him to be a back-up, also think Dalot has earnt his spot, but AWB needs to be replaced but definitely not the priority in the next window

We should try for Acuna even though he's 32. He's a fighter just like Martinez, something our team sorely lacks and he's got only 1 year left in his contract, so he won't be expensive. I'm all for signing young players, but we also need veterans if we want to compete for trophies.

I'd be tempted to not sign a LB this summer. Sign a CB like Branthwaite as well as a RCB such as Todibo or Guehi then we could use either Martinez or Branthwaite as a LB who ultimately forms part of a back three in possession, allowing the RB to push up field. I'm not sure its worth spending a chunk of money and the time required to sign a LB when we already have Shaw and Malacia on the books. While Alvaro Fernandez could be kept if really needed, while Harry Amass might well breakthrough towards the end kf next season or the start of the following. Do we really need to sign a 5th LB for the club when other areas are crying out for a first choice player. I'd even argue that we need a RB over a LB given that AWB seems ill-suited to play in a front foot team, while Dalot has done well, we don't have the same kind of young talent coming through the academy at RB.
