This tutorial is the best I've seen on C4D from anyone. This is literally epic mate. I have a character with a collider body on his gloves punching a bag with soft body on it and I want him to get really close and put big digs in, but it was exploding my punchbag but when I put some pressure in it to 100 and the shape conservation to 1000 it isn't exploding, some great tips overall in this video that answered my every need!

Informative, and as always straight to the point. Thanks! p.s. To get straight back to the default value you can just right mouse click on the little up/down arrow next to the value that you changed, that works for almost all values in c4d.

A good tip is to hit the escape key while your simulation is going out of control. When it gets to the point where clicking won't register on the pause button, pressing esc will always register and is the default "stop" button for the timeline.

Nice tutorial, thanks. I'm using R21, and Maxon seems to have changed the power of the stiffness parameter. Taking your jello cube, if I use your settings with a stiffness of 0, I get something that squashes much lower on impact. It still tries to resume its original shape, but ends up slightly tilted yet mostly upright. It still looks like jello, but much less ... firm. To match your jello simulation, I need to use a stiffness of 10 or so. ... and in general, I see more local crumpling in the lowest row of polys than I see in your animations, (my cube has 10 segments) whereas your deformation seems more global, less local, if that makes sense. Have you noticed these discrepancies between versions as well? Or is there another setting that I've missed? Thanks again ...

Thanks Chris, your teachings are aways on point and I truly respect your approach. I was fiddling with soft bodies the other day and I had a lot of trouble placing an element in the center of a "cube of jello" whilst keeping the simulation synced. The trouble was that i had to be really careful that the objects didn't pass through each other because the effects would immediately go wild and not be what i desired. I have a render that came out pretty good in the end , but i sort of hacked it and was wondering if there was a better way to do this. So for example , to place a logo inside of a cube of jello and have the cube drop or similar to this tutorial with the logo inside. The simulation would need to be synced and working together. Maybe there's a way to use constraints ? I'd put the link here for the final render but i don't want it to feel like spam lol so I'll only do that on your request if you have any desire to see it .. Thanks brother

Hey Chris, Super helpful video! Ive been trying to make a shredded cheese softbody for a taco but the mesh always explodes several frames after it hits any collider body. My steps are set to 20 and my iterations to 40. Is that amount of steps/iterations overkill? I'm also working at a relatively small scale, my cheese dimensions are (.2, .02, .02). Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

After all these years that i'm watching video's that ppl trying to teach something for different software, i can tell you Chris is one of the few people that knows exactly what he's doing. The way he teaches, the way he's trying to figure out a solution for a problem is just brilliant. Indeed you are a great teacher Chris! TY! (but you are talking slightly slower than usual, dont do that! XD) P.S. : lately i was checking Chad's Hardware setup, can u plz send me his home address? i wanna break the window and not only steal his pc but also his blue hat (he didn't put it on that list but i'm 100% sure that blue hat do a lot of things! Why does the center of gravity not work in soft bodies as in rigid bodies? As soon as I change the tag to soft body, center of gravity resets to center of the object. I am making a balloon that inflates and then lifts up, so I need the center of gravity to be quite low.
