It amazes me how a smaller camera company like Fuji has the resource to develop medium format system. You have to admire their innovation.

Are they smaller? They're larger than Hasselblad/DJI and Phase One. They're 5 times the size of Nikon in annual revenue. Fuji in 2022 had annual revenue of $22B. Nikon was $4.4B. DJI/Hasselblad $3.8B.

They never went down the “full frame” road either. So their R&D budget can be used on medium format (along with apsc). Unlike Nikon, Canon and Sony.

The snappier autofocus is very appealing. I have felt like if I could combine my GFX100S with my X-H2, that it would make the perfect camera. This might be it :)

What I did not expected was the impressed with the much amount of video specs, including the anamorphic desqueeze which does not exist in their X-H line. Fuji is pushing video very strong including cloud integration.

What impressed me the most is the design, it doesn't have that "retro hipster" look but a more "retro future" look. I hope that kind of design transfers to the X-Pro4 (if it ever comes out)

Agree, I like the styling on all their cameras, but this one is interesting because I feel like no manufacturer has come up with an interesting vision for what modern cameras should look like. It's a perfect blend of retro but with an almost cyberpunk utilitarianism to it, would love it on an xpro also

The GFX series certainly has its charm. I shoot mostly still subjects, like the real estate of 102MP when editing, love the look of larger sensors, and have disposable income, so I bought a used GFX100. I'm mostly happy with it.

Really great video Omar! I recently bought the GFX 50S Mk i second hand in mint condition at a bargain price and the 35-70 kit lens new. I can tell you, even the camera is slower like let‘s say my XT4 or XPro 2, the shooting experience with and the images from the GFX 50S are awesome! It is so exciting to grab this camera even though it is kind or bulky. LOVE IT!!!

I scoffed at the original 100, thinking I would never, ever need this much detail in my shots. After half a year shooting the 40mp, I finally see the light. I can see myself using one in the near future. It’s a crushing price but the images that will surely come out if this thing will be very nice.

I would absolutely GFX, but I'd probably be using adapted glass from a Mamiya 645. Prime examples would be the Mamiya 45mm f/2.8, 55mm f/2.8, 80mm f/1.9, and 150mm f/3.5.

Very good review. I’m selling my 100S. Already on eBay. I do architecture. Used use Arca Swiss 69 camera. So the high end EVF is a good send when using tilt shift. I hope the buttons really work. I completely agree with you the the images are somehow special. I love my XT3 and XT5 and dislike how heavy the GF lenses are and yet. I much much prefer to use the GFX. Maybe because it reminds me of my Pentax 67. I don’t know. But the 50S and 100S are great and this one promises to be much better. By the way, the pro 35mm cameras of them 1970s all had detachable view finders with many view position options. It just makes the camera MUCH more useful. Copy work. Low angle work. Etc. Once you’ve had it you never want to go back.

If only it can shoot 50mp raw file then it'll be an easy choice. Only able to take 102mp raw is actually a burden for my kind of work. Probably need to wait another 2 more years for the new GFX50 series with this new sensor and speed 😢

About synchronization realtime with your "man on the chair". I think this is possible by using the xApp to synchronize to a folder of your choice on your phone and then also realtime synchronize this folder with your Synology NAS at home... Synology has an app for this, I believe. This would use an astronomical amount of mobile data though, but it is the same for anyhow you would do it.

Very Good and I wonder if I should go down this route now, at long last, for all my large format group photos... 🤔🤔 but I am so invested in the Nikon infrastructure and creating large format panos (yes with groups too!) with these really do what I want anyway. Perhaps my retirement years should go down this route. Good vid and thank you for the info...

Yes phase 1 has that "true" medium format bigger sensor with 150mp. But hey that's way older sensor than this 100mp "smaller" medium format they didn't even bother to go to sony to update that humongous sensor. Atleast fuji js pushing sensor innovation.

I've owned the GFX 100S, the GFX50 I and II, and although I loved the images, the detail, the dynamic range...the AF was just so sucky it could do portraits and landscape and really nothing else. Having a really good AF system would put these in play, but they need to create faster lenses that really make use of that huge sensor. I've had almost everyone of their lenses, and while they are sharp and well made, you are not going to get that really dreamy fall off that you'd get with medium format film with a fast lens. While there are plenty of old medium format lenses that are manual, some super fast native af lenses would make this system come alive.
