Today we are talking about the story of the first Robin, the first ever super hero side kick. Dick Grayson. Eventually Nightwing and even Batman himself, Dick is one of my favourite comic book characters and it was a lot of fun making this video. I hope you enjoy.

Dick is my favourite character from DC comics, so its nice to see more people voicing their love for the character. I think the reason he appeals to me so much is because he has the best coming of age story I've seen in comics and he really helped me grow up. The only issue I take with the video is that Dick's father is named John, not Jack. Jack was the name of Tim's father. But I'd still like to see more vids, hopefully on Jason next.

I spotted the slight error of the Batcave calling Mr. Grayson "Jack," but I think it's forgivable, given that Jack is often used as a nickname for men named John. Possibly, Mr. Drake's actual given name is John as well, though I have no knowledge of such.

2:57 I just wanna note, this actually happened after Dick had dropped out of College and joined the New Teen Titans, he was probably around 19-20 when this happened, and is definitely around 20 when he becomes Nightwing

Great video, Grayson has always been a favorite of mine. I really miss the mid 90's comic book stories of Dick moving to Bludhaven and establishing himself as it's protector. It had some great stories and fun supporting characters.

I mean you know the solution to that... 1) Be involved in a chemicals accident. 2) Transform yourself into Flash 3) Try changing history, to prevent New 52 from happening. ( The previous was a sarcastic joke cause, you can't change what happened, so why this nostalgia comments just keep being a thing

I really like Dick. He was great as Nightwing. Bruce trained him well, but his dedication to only the mission strained their relationship. In the DCAU, I wasn't a fan of the way they had Dick and Bruce fall out over Barbara in the BTAS comics where Bruce gets Barbara pregnant. Loved Dick's characterization in the DCAU the best.

Okay that secret agent plotline with Dick in the new 52 sounds bonkers as hell. Glad that didn't stick lol and I would love to see more videos on the other Robins. it's hard for me to make up my mind but I think Jason Todd is my favorite one.

Excellent video, thanks for making such an enjoyable and easy to follow history of Dick Grayson. I just started reading Batman & Robin with Dick as Batman and Damien as Robin. I didn’t read Battle for Cowl so I was a little lost, so lo and behold you made the perfect video to catch me up. Props!

So Nightwing is my favorite character, his sidelining in a lot of media for plots to work is very interesting. SPOILERS FOR INJUSTICE His death in those comics sending daimian down a dark path and spliting the Titans was nuts as was him becoming Deadman. Also the crazy what if storyline that had him removed and the Titans and justice league just fighting basically all the time was interesting.

I wish there was a Nightwing Elseworld series that spanned a few hundred issues where its everything in the comics up until where we are now, with Bruce either dying or retiring or being forced into retirement, and we get to see Dick being a 100% solo hero (like not even havibg guest appearances in Batman comics anymore because he'd effectively take batman's role, but not as the next Batman, just as Nightwing. Or at least if he does take the mantle of Batman, do it like the Batman & Robin series from a few years back where Damien is his sidekick)

A weird magic Crystal that first the Court of Owls used to implant on him false memories of being trained as a Talon to bring him back to their ranks (although it lasted like 2 or 3 issues and he was able to overcome it without getting to kill anyone, wasted idea). Same crystal Joker then used on him in one other issue later making him "Dicky Boy" for a bit during Joker War. To FINALLY being used to restore his real memories and then was broken to not be used again. They messed up with my boy too much in such a short period 💀 More over, he suppousley still has his Real memories, his memories as Talon and as "Dicky Boy" all in his head. But that detail was never mentioned again, nor used for some good psychological plotline.

What a mess. Seriously, Nightwing's whole story is a mess post-new 52. Tim's is just as bad if not worse. They keep trying to wipe the slate and start over, but they don't know where to pick up the story and because of this, they drop the ball every time. Its like half the writers hate Dick and want to change him, while the other half have brilliant ideas but cant hold the job for long enough to get anything done.

I know it's too early for this and can confuse us all but a very important part of Dick before he was born was the story of his secret sister. Well it was just shown last year recently in the new comics so I guess nobody would count it canon for now

It sort of follows the story of the character. So goes through Golden age, silver age, New 52, Rebirth and more. Trying to make it a cohesive story (very difficult! haha)

Ive got to disagree with you on the costume, I always thought it looked better red and black, especially since the blue always reminded me of his first Nightwing costume which might be the worst designed costume in all of comics, I always wondered if they did that to keep it in line with the silliness of Robins costume to start Nightwing off with. Ah well, he’s def not my favorite DC character, hell, he isn’t even my favorite Robin, so I can’t argue the suit color too much lol P.S. love the lotr channel and I’m sure I’ll love this one too, well done, can’t go wrong with Hobbits or Batman

I’m a fan of Batman, and I like that dick Grayson became nightwing too, and I didn’t mind the fact he was robin, it’s just I never liked the suit he wore originally as robin, the whole short-shorts suit with the Peter Pan shoes, and dc comicsdid the same thing with Jason Todd originally before the new 52, yet I did like the robin suit that dick had in the flashbacks to when he was robin the suit Grayson wore in those flashbacks in the zero issue of nightwing’s comic book during the new 52, and the one they gave Jason was an improvement over the robin suit dick, Jason wore before the new 52, but that’s my opinion, and the opinion of my cofounder of the channel my friend Jeff and I created too.
