Was, wasn't it. My earlies memories are of the colour pallet from the late '70s - early '80s; the maroons and greys, and the romantic Laura Ashley ruffle collars and calf-length boots worn with long skirts. Lady Diana nailed the look I remember.

Interesting insight. Hard to believe I was alive then, and 3 years old! The lady in grey looked the most modern and has the look from my earliest memories of women's high street fashion.

I was only seven months old when this was shown, but I can still remember seeing people wearing stuff like this around 1980-81. Mining communities, in Nottinghamshire at least, tended to hang on to some fashions for a lot longer than might be expected.

I think the interviewer probably dressed down to allo the guests to stand out. As Prudence said her dress is Prarie style (v. Pop in 70s), Wendy's is 70s Edwardian(?), Murray is a beautifully tailored suit the camera doesn't do justice to, Wendy and Annette look odd to us I think bc their outfits in 1978 have elements in of 70s fashion and the 80s fashion that was to come. Not to mention if you look at family photos from the 70s people didn't look quite as chic as ppl do in Hollywood movies set in the 70s

My older brother had an interest in late '70's British fashion, none of which was talked about here. He wore torn jeans, torn shirts.. Lots of torn things, but then they went and put some safety pins in their torn clothes (-and each other -). I remember looking at those jeans with the holes and thinking, "Don't their knees get cold?" Oh well, that was anarchy from the UK, I suppose.

I would say this is early seventies, in sixties and early seventies Carnaby Street was the heart of casual clothing in the world if you were creative in pursuit of inspiration Carnaby Street was the place with vibrant clashes of colours and new rebellious culture and music, to be honest I think we lost our identity with those fads in those decades.

Lol a discussion about fashion that featured as unfashionably a dressed bunch as its possible to imagine. The guy looks like hes just finished working his shift as a travel agent, the presenter looks like a headmistress from the 1950s, the fashion correspondent's wearing an outfit that was years out of date even in 1978 and one of the others seems to be attired in something you'd normally see worn by one of the inhabitants of holloway prison. I lived thru this period and trust me no woman in her right mind back then would be seen dead in the dowdy outfits seen here

Introduced by a woman talking about fashion while trying to be as grey, dull and unfashionable as possible. And the interviewee- nobody is as posh sounding as that any more. Great retro film footage.

I too was puzzled by the sparrow-brown coloured skirt and jacket ensemble. Until she explains, part-way through, that she's wearing a British label. Then goes on to say "I feel a bit dowdy" in these clothes. So clearly, not her regular style or choice. Funny 😆 though, and how's about the fringe and hairstyle of the PR guest !

@Legion youre right women's fashions in the late 70s were elegant - but none of the women featured here are wearing anything that could be remotely described as 'elegant'. I lived thru this period and trust me no woman in her right mind then would be seen dead wearing the dowdy outfits on show here

Bed sheets are here beacuse you were there , if you get greedy you have to pay the price. You bought tem there to do your dirty work and the got rich from and and now your pissed . Who went to china to get the cheaper maufacturing in the first place? sold off all the internal manfacturing. Where I grew up everything was locally made all those companies are non exsistant now. I am a designer St Martins grad, I had to go to europe to get paid my worth most I was offered a year in the UK was 16 k in 98. Germany offered 3x that ! you need to look behind the vail and stop complaing.
