It's the ultimate paradox that the technology needed to make a movie is cheaper than ever before, with professional-grade video cameras and all the editing, audio-development, and post-processing software needed to produce a movie available on the general consumer market, and yet the biggest studios feel fine just splurging absurd quantities of money at films that could be produced for a quarter of the budgets they are throwing at them.

I personally though prefer more practical effects than CGI. Also what about A.I? Is Hollywood ever going to use that? Is that Daily Wire going to ever do that and screw over their actors and writers? I mean, that would be stupid: imagine paying five bucks for a movie ticket for a movie that costed less than that to make. Also what are these higher ups in these companies going to use all their money for now that they use A.I instead of real human actors and writers and production team? Spend it on even more A.I generated art and music and film?

I thought they looked uncomfortable. Maybe it's the way they're sitting. I'd like to see them in a more comfortable setting. Also the Critical Drinker, I believe, works out of Scotland so doing this in person and face to face is impractical and, to be honest, the split screen, side by side Vlog style is becoming tiresome. I watched, "Twelve Angry Men", again last night. I don't think it cost 200 million to produce, but I kinda liked it. "My Man Godfrey", "My Girl Friday", "To Kill a Mocking Bird", "Of Mice and Men", "The Grapes of Wrath", the 1956 "Moby Dick", the 1939 "Stagecoach", "High Noon", "The Last Picture Show", "Some Like it Hot", "The Oxbow Indecent", "Top Hat" and "It's a Wonderful Life" are examples of the kinds of movies that could still be made without spending a lot of money and still make a profit. I think if you start with a good script that tells and interesting story, you are off to a good start.

Perfect example of all this is the Jurassic Park franchise. I'll always remember seeing the original in 1993 when I was 10, my brother was 8. The old domed theater we saw it in shook because they turned the sound up. It still feels like the best film in the franchise by far. Craziest thing is, you didn't even get a good look at a dinosaur until about 45 minutes in! Similar to Jaws, you built a great film on suspense and character development through a great script, not solely special effects. CGI should enhance a film if it's necessary, not prop it up like a crutch.

Big budget means nothing without a great story. Look at some of the classics, they were great because of a compelling story, not (necessarily) because of a budget. You left the theater feeling wonderful. The only good films, as you've said, are the ones where there's a brand such as Ghostbusters, Top Gun, Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones (yes, I liked the latest Indy film). The best film of the year (IMO) was Sound of Freedom, which of course, was based on a true story so it doesn't answer the question about creativity. The irony is that today's filmmakers were brought up during the great Spielbergian era. We need another generation of George Lucas and Steven Spielbergs ASAP!

CD makes the comment that creativity isn’t dead in Hollywood, it’s just not incentivized anymore because it’s safer to make a sequel. Is it safer based on the last two years of box office returns? Going back to the well has failed miserably. I think it’s time for originality, from a purely business standpoint.

1:30 That would make sense if they wanted to make money, but forcing DEI wokeness at the expense of story and genuine entertainment tends to prevent this - more and more as audiences become more cynical, and apprehensive about trusting Disney to not inject yet more of this rubbish into an otherwise promising movie.
@Peridactyloptrix

So, do you think that there’s a guy who goes round to the writers at Disney and prevents them from working on story/character development so that they can write the woke part of the movie? Why do you think those two things are mutually exclusive?
@jiminverness
@jiminverness 7 ай бұрын
@@Peridactyloptrix Not as such, no. I think there's a guy Iger who hires agenda driven woke people who in turn hire woke fanfic writers who couldn't tell a good story from a carbuncle to write the entire movie, and gay it up or woke it up or leftisize it up or any combination thereof and insert themselves in as protagonist as much as possible and story be damned, new bloated product - and it's not just Disney; Disney just has the most exposed names and faces to the big budget flops that no-one's interested in trusting them enough anymore to go see - not even the activist woke set.

@@Peridactyloptrix _"you seriously think that Bob Iger is more interested in feminism than he is in making money? Really?"_ Umm, no. I don't think Bob Iger is remotely interested in feminism. Wokeness, DEI, the Alphabet Community, etc., yeah. That he's been interested in. Iger's interested in making money for himself, but he hasn't cared about making money for Disney for quite a few years now. I think streaming is another thing that isn't factored it. A streaming service costs about $20 a month these days, now the movies that I only have a passing interest to see on a slow weekend costs easily $50-60 to go see as a couple or $100 or more as a family of four. Instead you wait a few months and view it on streaming. It is only the great event movies that make close to a billion at the box office.
