@Matthew Muldoon gradual replacement is alright as the continuity of your self is maintained throughout. With digital mind transfer (as with teleportation), after all of your information has finished transferring, there comes a point when you are destroyed so the new copy can replace you.

@Matthew Muldoon That's not entirely true. The lifespan of a cell depends on the type of cell. Brain cells and eye lens cells have a lifespan of at least 200 years. While skin cells might only last a few weeks at the most.

@Matthew Muldoon in my opinion the issue is the deletion of information. Even if you were to get a digital implant that starts storing all your new memories, you might say that all you're doing is putting your brain's storage capacity in stand-by and simply filling up a flashdrive. Then, at some point, if you copy your old memories there and transfer the whole thing to a digital being, the original you is just an incomplete coma patient left hibernating in your body, while the "new you" is indeed someone else, just an exact copy of yours. The only ethical situation for this would be when you finally die, and then your "backup" could be safely uploaded somewhere so that at least the essence of who you were can continue living.

@Matthew Muldoon hey yes that makes perfect sense, the past selves we leave behind at every instant are slightly obsolete versions of our present self. I guess it's just an inevitability of time. I find myself in a similar situation as you, being very different from my younger self. Would you hit the upload button though? Whatever survives on the other end, will have experienced a smooth, continuous experience. Kind of like every instant when we update our reality, for all we know we could have just been created a second ago, out of nothing and along with the universe around us, but Occam's razor says that's unlikely :D

@gibbdude The Google results could still be personalised based on your IP Address and User Agent String. In any case, being exactly the same as Google isn't really important as long as you find what you're looking for. I mainly use DuckDuckGo, which gives completely different results, and only turn to Searchpage (!sp) when I don't find what I need there.
