Guthrie, you are a kind friend. Thanks for the words we we spoke the other night. I want to say, my private lessons and AW subscription with you since 2019 are continuously paying off and I have fretboard “lightbulb” moments all the time. Your teachings over the years have me understanding everything you talk about. Too much to note but thank you! I encourage anyone serious about melodic, never lost fretboard knowledge to get onboard with GTs lessons opportunities. Thanks man, see you soon around town.

No one has done more for my playing than GT. He's so right about CAGED and chord shapes. His private lessons are a wealth of material to go over and over. He's an incredibly talented musician who is also a great teacher. In 50 years of playing and countless other lessons he is simply the best I've found. He took my playing up several levels and I continue to learn from him every time I pick up the guitar. Here's the thing you might not realize; he says it without really saying it: It's about the journey. Enjoy the journey and watch yourself grow on the instrument, truly what it's all about.

These last three videos that you've done are opening up a whole new world for me on guitar. I now can't wait to get home from work to practice these shapes & get them "under the fingers" for a couple of hours each night . I believe that in a few months I will play more melodically and finally escape "pentatonic hell" :)

1) What you played in the intro was just gorgeous 2) Great fretboard info as always 3) Love the stories from the Gulf coast, especially the hair in the tuning peg, lol! (I don’t mean to laugh at anyone’s misfortune, but I can picture the whole scenario, and in hindsight, it’s hilarious 🤣). 4) Appreciate the advice on stretching/loosening techniques. I’m an athlete as well as musician; I foam roll and stretch my body regularly, but hadn’t thought to apply the same to my hands. Makes perfect sense. Thanks as always and keep up the great work and music 🙏👍🏼💛

Flora Bama! I spent 2018 to 2020 down in Mobile. Loved the music and musicians down there, but we had to get back to California. I found I could move my body out there, but my heart wouldn't budge from CA. As a music photographer, I got to know a lot of musicians from Mobile to NOLA. I miss those cats. There was a lot of great talent there. Sorry our paths didn't cross during that time, but hopefully you'll get out here before too long.

Love the stories to. Talk about synchronicity though. Last week I was working on the E blues scale between frets 9-12. You're right. That area of neck is under utilized. Turns out, thanks to this video, that I was unconsciously working the G shape. So thanks ever so much Guthrie. Today's offering is a golden icing on top. Bam! As an older guy, I can’t say I have been “Girl Fishin” lately! I guess if you snag one by the hair with your guitar you get to keep her till you cut her loose, lol. I like to include the “A” shape C triad on the G, B, and E strings with that “G” shape. I had a light bulb moment playing triads. It became very clear that on either side of the 1, 3, and 5, lives the rest of the scale tones, which means you also have all the diatonic chords as well. Like you said, it’s all there. I am still figuring out what to do with it, but I get it. Thanks for posting all these lessons.

I honestly think that your new approach to these videos (if it is indeed new) is great Guthrie, you have such a massive wealth of knowledge and experience , quality of course but previously I've found that for my level (perhaps intermediate having played for many years but not ever progressed further) that your videos were more demonstrations than they were lessons. However, in this video I learned a lot, I'm now especially focussing on each chord shape in all positions and then following you exercises of learning/listening to major scale, minor scale, arpeggios, pentatonic, blues scale, triads in each position etc. This felt like a lesson and I loved your little stories at the end to so full of entertainment also. Please continue this approach if and when you can. We love your music and your skills but we are all desperate for tips and help just like this.

Thank you for all the great lessons and advice man. Love your brand of music. I appreciate the way ya break these down for us and how you kinda look at music in general. Ya got a ton of support. I hope to see ya at the UCO jazz lab or somewhere at a festival in Oklahoma man. Since I’ve discovered your music and guitar playin and these vids. Say all the time. You’ve changed the way I play and look at music altogether. And not to try and have a pissing contest with sad stories but recently I’ve lost my vision and had to retire from my career of 20 years and I’ve found myself in the guitar and playing and finding new old music if that makes sense. But you’ve broke this down so I can understand a lot better what I’m doing and how to do what I wanna do and enjoy this more “me time” that I have. So thank you, keep on keepin on.

Guthrie, I can't say enough about this video. This one REALLY opened up my eyes and made me say to myself "how did I not see that...". You instantly changed my playing and I've been at this for a long time. I often put your videos on when I get home late at night and this one kept me up past dawn noodling with my looper. So I used this the next night at my gig on a few songs including the simple song "Girl Crush". Afterwards one of the singers said to me it's always pretty but tonight especially very sweet. I started with the G shape for the C chord and just used C shape for IV & V with little hammer ons and double stops. Honestly I was so sick of playing that song that you even made me enjoy it. Now I'm rambling on, so don't ever apologize for your chatter, it's all useful. I suffer from trigger finger. I've already had surgery on one and it's not fun. I have it in my index finger on my pick hand pretty bad. I hope you can fend it off (It's preventing my from playing banjo, which might actually be a blessing, haha...) You gave really good advice about that, too bro. Good luck with that, hoping for the best for you and as always THANK YOU!
