Watch this and work with the simple yet profound concepts this great player introduces. You'll be very glad you did.

20:18 he plays one of the most beautiful, unrushed, soulful musical pieces any of us have ever heard, then comments "That was a terrible example." Add humble to his list. Unlike most players, when he was playing I sensed zero % ego of that he was trying to show off. I was honored to watch a musical prodigy who does not quite understand how amazing he is. I am hoping "some" of this- any of this will rub off on this non-prodigy (who still relies on a digital tuner.)

I wish they had KZfaq as a kid because while trying to learn how to solo over changes it was all scales and modes and you had to overthink and everything sounded like scales and it was just confusing and unmusical. This is so simple and yet so musical and easy to learn. I appreciate it. And i am a hat man. I like Bailey's of Hollywood

I've been working on Triads and their inversions for some time now and I know the shapes for the Major and minor traits as well on all 4 string sets. I know them intervallicaly. This is a great lesson to really focus on and learn how the intervals overlap from one triad to the associated triads. In this case the 1-3m-6m-4M-5M resolving back to the 1. I'm sure I'll be coming back to this vid for a few weeks at least to get this down hard! Too bad we can't give a vid like this a thumbs up every time we watch it.

I love that people say 'don't get too KZfaqy'....it can be a fantastic vehicle for musicians and students alike, and can certainly get your name out there in a way that might not be possible otherwise. People like Tim Pierce have really kick started a nice little living and much broader fan base by using this medium to teach. Great videos anyway man, I've been playing for 31 years, many of those professionally and I'd watch these even if I knew a lot of what you were teaching because you're interesting, and easy to listen to.

Guthrie, frankly, these two triad lessons are probably the most helpful I've seen in a long time. I've known about the CAGED system before it was called that and know that basically there are triads for everything in a specific key right around it on the fretboard, G in this example. Problem is in my head I always default to scales over chord tones, which is the difference. I need to start using my looper to create simple chord progressions to get this kind of lead playing down, instead of messing around with songs I've been soloing over forever.

Awesome lesson. I've got my shapes, I've been focusing on where the 1 is in the triad and taking each position, "shape, scale, Arpeggio" and dropping the 1 down to make a dominant, and then mixolydian. Once again, perfect video. Thank you.

Great stuff as usual Guthrie. Cant wait to get some free time so I can book that lesson. Got my eldest son subscribed and following you now. Playing many of the same notes I always have (many new too) but I can now just see how it maps out to the chord shapes. I can see how you get so excited about it, it was like a lightbulb coming on. Thanks for your efforts on this.

I’ve been hammering away at mastering the CAGED system so this video was right on time. Thank you! I have to admit that bcus I’m not that advanced of a player, many of the things that you’ve shown didn’t make sense to me initially. But wanting to understand what you’re talking about has made me push myself to dig deeper and to really master these concepts as well as to practice specific routines to really hammer the concepts into my head. Thx for the inspiration.

THANK YOU for the great lesson... It is really an overlooked subject for many players ... In another one of your videos with pappastash.. you reference the foundation...framework...and the finished sheet rock on the wall .. It makes total sense.. Simle building blocks for creative playing.. Beautiful 👍

Your playing sounds so good, you make the notes flow together in such a beautiful melodic way. I hope I can get all of this down on my Artistworks membership class. ( That’s a plug for you 👍) LOL Hey I have a Princeton 82 handwired, I installed a Celestion 10 inch gold speaker, had Mike from Komet amps in Baton Rouge look it over and it sounds amazing. You just can’t beat those little amps for what they do. Thanks Guthrie. 🙏👍🎸✌️😎

Guthrie Trapp: Sonny still does, he told me Mike from Komet went through his and delivered them to him. He used them last year or the year before at Jazz Fest as well as his Demeter. I am pretty sure he said he has a 1964 model, I can’t remember if he used one or two, but I do remember the amp sounded great going through the PA system in the open air at Jazz Fest on the Gentilly Stage, his resonator playing put the chills on the crowd with that deep delta tuning sound like it was coming up out of the swampland, lol, the drummer used a Cajon on some songs. It was cool and the wind was really howling that day, perfect setting for resonator playing.
